Nintendo of America says it will come 'later this summer.'

Nintendo Video will not be available in North America until "later this summer." The service, which launched in Europe and Japan this week, allows 3DS users to view streaming 2D and 3D video content.

In a statement, Nintendo noted that while the service will not reach North America in the immediate future the Netflix player for 3DS will be available "soon."

Soon? So...winter?

I am so surprised by this.  Who would have thought

Seriously, way to drop the ball again NoA.  Your roaring to be the screw up branch.  Must be what you want from this gen (3DS, WiiU).

Nintendo of America, WAKE THE HELL UP!!!

Europe and Japan ain't getting Netflix. I think that's why North America's not getting it right now.

Ceric, how in the world do you think Nintendo of America is dropping the ball? We are still getting both Nintendo Video and Netflix this summer, and we are the only region getting Netflix (although Netflix pissed a lot of people off yesterday by announcing they are jacking up prices by up to 60%).

1.  We are also the only region to have Netflix.
2.  That being said their really should have been a strive to release said Netflix app at the same time as everyone else since its obvious the push was coordinated.
3.  Not everyone has Netflix.

Personally I would have settled for an exact date the Netflix app was coming.  "Soon" is like saying nothing.

"Nintendo's short-form video service that delivers special video content for Nintendo 3DS systems will launch in North America later this summer. In addition, Netflix members who have an unlimited plan starting at $7.99 a month and access to a broadband wireless Internet connection will soon be able to download a free Netflix application that allows them to watch movies and TV shows on their Nintendo 3DS systems at no extra charge. These services will add to the wealth of games and entertainment content currently available via the Nintendo eShop. For more information about Nintendo 3DS, visit http://www.nintendo.com/3ds.

There is the actual statement.  I see a vague "Later in this Summer" for the Video content.  Which begs to why that was not today and not a hard date.  Shoot not even a month.  Then I see a reminder the Netflix is coming but, I see that like the MS reminder that Angry Birds is coming to WP7 and that took 6 months.

"Pics or it didn't happen" well "Dates or I don't believe its coming soon."

Last time they gave us a vague Evening for something and it was night when they gave it to us.  I prefer something more solid.

That all being said I'll probably watch Netflix on my 3DS because it stands up better than my phone.  Though my phone can play Netflix where ever without 802.11 wireless.  Probably a better picture to (Higher Res) but, I'll hold out for judgment till the apps out.  Though the sound from the 3DS is better. I'm more interested in the new content.  I'm also ragging on NoA because they can't seem to get the easy wins.

Alright, then why didn't NoA just say in their statements:

"Unique Video content will come out later this Summer and the Netflix application will be arriving this eShop update. "

Bam, Better press and don't sound like a big disappointment.  Did they think of a way to find the most negative way to make that statement.

Word of advise NoA whoever are crafting your PR statements.  Fire/Demote them and get someone good.

TJ SpykeJuly 13, 2011

Maybe their agreement with Netflix prevented them from saying when it was coming.

That be a silly clause if it didn't allow on the week of placement.

This is the same thing as Nintendo saying they have "no plans" to do something right up until they announce it. This is what Nintendo does. If you post on these forums you should know this by now.

It was the Same Day.  What the point of even giving a statement if you know your going to announce it the Same DAY.  Just "No Comment" it knowing your going to answer that question later in the day.

I never said there was a point. I just said that it is absolutely the way Nintendo does things.

i bet it will be up this upcoming thursday. They probably just wanted netflix some time by itself

Nintendo needs to hire Christian Svensson. He knows how to handle these kinds of situations.
