One of the first apps available at the eShop launch will let users view more than 150 Pokémon in 3D.

Pokédex 3D, featuring all of the new Pokémon from the recent Pokémon Black and White games, will allow users to look up information about more than 150 Pokémon and their moves, all free of charge. It will make use of SpotPass and Augmented Reality.

Players start with 16 Pokémon and can unlock the remaining Pokédex entries by scanning QR Codes, using SpotPass (up to three random Pokémon a day), or by trading data with friends, likely via StreetPass.

Users will be able to view each Pokémon in 3D, and rotate them a full 360 degrees. The Pokédex features filters and bookmarking capabilities as well.

The app will use the 3DS's built-in Augmented Reality capabilities to display Pokémon in pictures taken via the 3DS Camera.

Check out some pictures of the Pokédex in action below.

It look's great, I'll get into the new generation of Pokemon by this app cus I dont have neither Black or White yet.
*tries being spooky* What's that misterious game at the right of PokeDex 3D?

TrueNerdMay 31, 2011

I'd rather have Hey You Pikachu 2.

Sylverstone14May 31, 2011

@pololmejor: That character would be Rottytops of Shantae: Risky's Revenge fame.

Hmm, since it doesn't say, I guess not all of the Pokemon are in the app? At least not yet?

Still, quite nice for a freebie. I was worried that this needed to be bought when I read the headline.

Only the Pokemon added in Black and White are in the game.

It will be nice to see Nintendo offering some real content to their systems that will actually make use of their capabilities rather than the garbage that was released on the "Nintendo Channel", although only time will tell if this will become a reoccurring trend, or if the 3DS eShop will share the same fate... :\

Now I hope there will be a future another 3D pokemon game to include the Gen. V.

This is pretty cool. Too bad that's it only B&W Pokémon or I would instantly buy this.

No buying needed, dude. It's free!

Where is this news from? Nintendo hasn't announced this as far as I can tell.

KDR_11kJune 01, 2011

If it's free, why not? The graphics look way better than the N64 level models they've been using in the past, too.

I have to admit, I'm kind of bummed.

When I read the headline, my brain immediately went to some sort of 3D version of Pokemon Box. I'm craving an app that would store Pokemon and organize them better than the stupid games allow.

Still cool though. Should be a fun diversion for free.

This is awesome, I hope it will be expanded into HeartGold version as well.

I hope they do something so you can view other generations of Pokemon.

B&W is free to get you hooked.  Then you have to buy Per Game Expansion packs to get the rest.  This will lead to a tie in to Stadium 3DS which will only allow you to use Pokemon you have in your 3DS Pokedex.  Which will also lead to an AR Snap title which will only allow you to capture Pokemon in your 3DS Pokedex.  It would print money.

I doubt that would happen.  They'll come overtime I'm sure.
