The Super Nintendo classic is coming to your Wii soon.

Final Fantasy III is coming to North American Virtual Console according to the ESRB.

Actually the sixth entry in the series, the game came out on Virtual Console in Japan and PAL territories in March 2011.

Final Fantasy III was the third game in the series to make it to North America, coming out in October 1994. It was later re-released on PlayStation in 1999 and Game Boy Advance in 2007.

This will be the fourth Final Fantasy title to be released on the Virtual Console in North America, following the release of the original on NES in late 2009, Final Fantasy II in early 2010, and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest in late 2010.

Talkback

FINALLY! This game is tied for my favorite Final Fantasy (with II/IV). Its last release in the West was a very late GBA version that was rather hard to find and has some sound emulation problems, as with most SNES>GBA ports. I will definitely be picking this up on VC as soon as it's out! Although I still need to play Vagrant Story that I bought on PSN weeks ago...

I am still waiting for Chrono Trigger and Megaman X.

FF II & III were the last FFs that I've played.

I wonder if this means they will get around to FFVII - IX now on Nintendo hardware.
all of those remade for 3DS would be great

I just hope they don't decide to start all over again from NES 3Dmakes first.

FF 5 to 9 on 3DS and that Final Fantasy 7 remake (PS3) for Wii 2.

When did we start being beaten out by Europe for good VC content so hard...

I never want to see FF 7 remade on anything.  Ever.  That game's fanboys are bad enough already.

About time we finally get FF 6 on the Virtual Console.  Along with Chrono Trigger and MegaMan X, this is looking to be a good summer/fall for Virtual Console.

I agree with this.  It was a good game don't get me wrong but I think it would lose a lot of its charm with the new character look n feel they been pushing for it.  Though I wouldn't mind an FF that used the fight system.

This is great news seeing how I never played Final Fantasy 6. Something I'm curious about is the localization. Is this first version fine or should I hunt down an other version of FF6 to play?

Aside from some spell name changes (like changing the name of the "Holy" spell to "Pearl", if I remember correctly), the original localization for FF6 was fine.  It's not neutered like the original version of FF 4 was on the SNES.

The problem with the original SNES release is the existence of several bugs that were fixed in later versions, and I doubt they will be changed for the VC release. So you'll have to live with the Evade stat being completely useless, and there are some issues with status effects not behaving properly that might come up, among other things that probably won't matter.

FF6 is a Ted Woolsey joint, so you're in good hands with the translation.

FF III/VI has been on my list for a long time. I gave up on pursuing a GBA copy a while back, so this is welcome news!

Most excellent.  I feel the suspend feature of VC games would help me chip away at RPGs, as I don't have the kidneys for James Jones-length gaming sessions.  And I've never played this, which is a fault in need of remedying.  A full-on 3D remake on (3)DS, a la FFIV, would be very cool though, too...

This was the first RPG I played through. I liked it so much I, erm, acquired a version of FF V, but lost interest halfway through due to the game kind of sucking and having a bad class system. I then borrowed FF VII for PC from a friend, and gave up on it after the first disk, due to the game kind of sucking and having a bad class system. (Also, it was ugly as hell.) So anyway, in conclusion, FF VI is the best FF.
