No Madden On DS This Year

EA Sports is currently "evaluating [their] approach to the Madden NFL franchise on the DS," which will result in the series skipping the system this year.

Last week when the Madden NFL 10 cover athletes were revealed, there was no comment on the status of the DS game, which was conspicuously omitted from the press release.

When reached for comment, EA Sports' Senior PR Manager Rob Semsey released the following statement:

"We set extremely high standards for quality at EA SPORTS and we are constantly striving to deliver the best sports experiences to our consumers. To ensure that we maintain the highest level of quality possible, we are currently evaluating our approach to the Madden NFL franchise on the DS. As such, we will not be releasing Madden NFL 10 on the DS platform. That said, we are excited to announce that Madden NFL 10 for the Wii has been completely redesigned and built from the ground up at our Tiburon studio in Orlando, Florida."

Given the comment, it looks like Madden will be skipping the DS this year. Fortunately for Nintendo fans, the Wii version holds promise as it is being developed by the main Madden team at Tiburon.

I don't think the Madden games have ever sold well on the DS, still disappointing though considering the PS2 and PSP are both getting the game.

i wonder if DSi has something to do with it.

Yet another reason why the DS is the best system out there right now. :)

"No Madden On DS This Year"

Nobody cares.

Apparently Neal cares!

Exception to the rule.

FACT: DS is dead. Even the Nintendo 64 got Madden 2002 when it was on life support.

Not really. I think I have Madden 2002 on GBA because I got it for $5. It sucks.
I just thought it was a good story...

I bought Madden 2005 with my DS at launch (mostly due to the fact there wasn't much there at launch) and I also got the 06 and 07 versions. I skipped the last couple years but I'd been thinking about getting 10. Too bad.

Wasn't Madden 08 one of the last GCN releases?

When EA decides it's not worth it to them to put Madden on a system that's a bad sign. The last time a game system that wasn't completely dead didn't get Madden: the Dreamcast.

Yep, Madden NFL 08 (released in August 2007) was the final GameCube game released.

Did anybody like the Madden DS games?  The two I've played I pretty much hated.  Floaty players and it's hard as hell to complete passes.

Reviews of Madden NFL 2005 (which launched with the system) got pretty good reviews, I haven't played it though.

I liked the ones I played. The only reason I didn't buy it the last 2 years was that I wasn't playing much of anything on the DS at the time, but then again I have a real problem when it comes to buying Madden.
