Nintendo Releases Another Wii Update

Another Wii system update already?

Nintendo sent another message to Wii consoles tonight notifying users of another system update. Apparently there was a stability issue that occurred when the Reset button was pressed while using the Opera Internet Channel. Also, something was done to address stability issues when using the Wii LAN Adapter.

The system version is still 3.0U after running the update, so apparently this small fix was not even worthy of a point release, as it was most likely just a small bug fix after the last system update.

Still, between this, the original 3.0U update, and the Metroid Prime Preview channel, Nintendo has been quite busy utilizing the Wii message board as of late.

The full message that Nintendo is sending out to Wii systems is below.

A new update for your Wii console is available!

This update will prevent your Wii console from locking up, which can occur when using the Internet Channel if you press RESET on either your Wii console or within the HOME Menu. This update also corrects some Internet connection stability issues when using the Wii LAN Adapter from Nintendo.

Please press the Update button on the bottom-right to update your Wii console.

Hmmm... I just updated my Wii earlier today (as I had been out of town)... Do I have this new update or not? Seems silly not to change the version number.... guess I'll have to go check....

My guess is you don't. I was watching a movie and saw the Wii message light turn on at 10:30 pm Eastern time. I got all excited, then was pretty disappointed with out boring it was. I would have had more fun receiving more photos of my friend's dog. face-icon-small-smile.gif

Wonderful. Now just fix the Freeloader issue that popped up, guys.

Hah, I wish. Somehow I don't think that was a "problem."

So, is Nintendo going to step up on the online? Maybe if they confirm it on Brawl, then the industry will look somewhat differently.

Very interesting.

I just got the message saying that I did need to download the upgrade. So I went to do it. After I confirmed that I wanted to upgrade, I got the following message:

"IMPORTANT: If you do not want to accept this upgrade, you can shut down you Wii console and cancel the upgrade by holding down the Power Button for four (4) seconds. If your Wii console has an unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause inoperatability of your console."

Aside from the fact that I'm not convinced that "inoperatability" is actually a word, I don't think I've ever seen this message before... anyone else?

I saw that when I upgraded to 3.0U, so if I see it for this update it'll be the second time I see it.

I also recieved the "IMPORTANT: If you do not want to accept this upgrade..." message as well. It was the first time I had ever seen it and it made me nervous, but being up for an adventure I did it anyway. Hopefully I never see it again.

If only they could put their programmers to good use, there would be no stopping them

Why must Nintendo release all their Wii updates when I can't download them right away. face-icon-small-sad.gif

Nintendo Europe never announced the 3.0 release anyway, so lots and lots of people will be getting that version bundled in with this patch

Important question of the day!!!!!!

Can I now use USB keyboard in internet browser?

UltimatePartyBearAugust 14, 2007

They also seem to have fixed the issue that once plagued me. My Wii was not reset to use Internet Connection 1 after this update!

Updates I'd like to see:
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl online mode
- The use of an external hard drive.
- Using the remote to reset/exit during a GCN game.

The first wouldn't fall under the jurisdiction of a Wii Firmware update, and I'm still surprised there are so many people who believe there's a real chance of it not happening. The second is very much necessary to me, I currently have less than 100 blocks and that's after deleting half a dozen games; I sent Nintendo feedback pleading for such a feature, anyone else who wants/needs more space should too. The final suggestion is one I'd love to see, and it would get me to play more GameCube games.

I don't think we're ever going to see much of an improvement when it comes to GameCube features. I think the only GCN game still being published is LoZ:TP - and since that's out for Wii, I seriously doubt Nintendo wants to go out of their way to encourage people to buy old/used games when they're offering so many newer games (Wii, DS, VC)...

yay this patch fixed the problems i was having connecting to news/weather and shopping channels.

i never had the problem they mentioned in their message (the internet channel freezing up) after the last update, i did however get messages saying i was connected to the internet when using any other channel but the Internet channel. now its fixed and i can finally download that metroid channel!

I've never seen that message before. Then again, Nintendo didn't even tell me about the past two or three updates. If it wasn't for the Internet, I'd be stuck on the crappy 1.x version. face-icon-small-frown.gif
