It's not easy to get a publishing deal for a game that isn't based on an established brand or franchise. Just ask Matt Bozon, creative director of WayForward, who's been trying to get a deal for a sequel to the studio's 2002 Game Boy Color title Shantae, a platformer which featured a genie who belly-dances and whips her hair.

The past week saw another Nintendo dominated week of software sales. The only non-Nintendo platform game was new Naruto Shippuuden game for the PlayStation 2, which debuted at No. 5.

The Nintendo DS continues to post impressive sales worldwide, and now the handheld video game player has surpassed four million units sold in France alone since it was released there in March 2005.
Stephan Bole, general director of Nintendo France, attributed the tremendous DS sales to users of all ages, including gamers over 40 years of age, females, and people who traditionally hadn't spent time with video games before.

Nintendo's global dominance asserts itself in Britain as Wii overtakes the 360 despite a year head start; DS smashes its own single week hardware sales record.
The latest Chart Track data on UK hardware sales has revealed that, with the sale of 100,000 units last week, Wii has exceeded the installed user base of the Xbox 360. In spite of globally constrained supply limiting hardware allocations to the UK, Wii has attained this position in only half the time that Microsoft's console has sat on store shelves.

NOA can't think ahead if it's always worrying about getting consoles out as fast as possible.
Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime says that his company is having difficulty laying out a game plan for the coming months because of the record-breaking demand of the Wii.
"The level of demand we are facing complicates all of our future business planning," said Reggie in an interview with Reuters. Until supply and demand balance each other out, he said, "all of that becomes a much tougher exercise."

One game player decided to sue Activision for "deceptive and unlawful" conduct.
Samuel Livingston of San Diego has brought suit against Activision for "deceptive and unlawful" conduct for the marketing of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock for the Wii. The class-action lawsuit charges Activision with not addressing or attempting to warn customers about the mono sound issue, despite the game's packaging continuing to advertise Dolby Pro Logic II sound.

Canadians bought a lot of games too, enough to put them over $1 billion total for the year to date.
November wasn't just a big sales month in the USA, but up north as well. According to estimates released by the NPD Group, Canadian game sales reached $209.1 million Canadian (US $205.6 million), enough to put Canada over a cool billion dollars Canadian in sales for the year 2007 with the month of December still to go.

Wii Fit balances confidently at the top.
Last week’s Japanese charts saw Wii Fit reach the second spot with only a few days on sale, so a full week at retail went exactly as predicted – Wii Fit sold big. The 8,800 Yen ($80) pack reached the top spot with just short of 150,000 units sold, just ahead of Mario Party DS at No.2 with almost 107,000 units.
