From a collectors standpoint, is it worth it???
« on: July 28, 2004, 09:10:55 PM »
I was in Maine two weeks ago and I encountered a brand new sealed copy with the original pricetag sticker on it of Contra Force for the NES.  The price is still $48 before tax.  This was the first time I've seen a sealed nes game in person for years so I got real excited, but I didn't have money for it.  Anyways, I'm going back up there and I'm wondering is it really worth it?  From a collectors viewpoint?  Would you buy it?  I'm thinking maybe of offering the lady a low figure and try to get it for less but I dunno.

Wasn't Contra Force one of those aweful Contra knock-offs from Konami?  i'd say forget it.

If it was the original grand daddy, CONTRA, i wouldn't hesitate.

No, not really worth it.

Sealed NES games are really cool, and I get excited when I see them too. They're like... historical artifacts. They beg to be preserved somehow.

But, the bulk of NES games were "mainstream", and most mainstream people just don't think outdated games are worth anything. So nobody wants them. So the supply outweighs the demand.

If you search eBay for "nes sealed" you'll see a pile of old still-sealed NES games selling (or not selling) for about $10 each. Unless it's something people still want. Like, if you see a sealed copy of Dragon Warrior 4, don't be surprised to see a $400 price tag.

I'm about to go punk up some 3rd parties so they don't release games on other hardware, ciao!

Contra Force f*cking sucks.  It's worth buying and completely destroying so that there's one less copy of it for people to play.  Sealed or not it's not worth sh!t.  Sealed games only matter for games that people actually like.

Hell even if it was Contra or Super C I would still consider $48 a little pricey.  I've found a sealed copy of Mario Paint with the mouse and everything for less money than that.

If you want it, then it's worth it.  But something is only worth as much as one is willing to pay for it.  A rare baseball card may be worth a million dollars to the person who owns it, but that doesn't mean someone is going to want to buy it for a million dollars from him/her.

You aren't a true collector until you have EVERYTHING!!  In the box, out of the box, double-sealed!  Removed from the box by a store employee for play testing then resealed with the store shrink-wrapper!  I want it all!!!
Ummm...I don't think it's worth it, though, personally.
That's my opinion, not yours.

ya I wasn't talking about having it to sell it, but rather have it in my collection.  I didn't think it was worth it for even that, but I wanted to hear your opinions too.  Maybe the woman has some other better games, I'll have to see.  Thanks for your opinions.
