In this interview with Eiji Aonuma, he confirms the development of Four Swords for DS. This is exciting news, Four Swords is one game that could take advantage of the DS' features very well. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

Damn you, Mario, you beat me to the post...

Well, something interesting about the small period in which they talked about Four Swords, is that he mentioned connectivity.  I'm not sure if this is DS-DS, or what, but that got my attention.

I also think it's kinda funny how he states that Wind Waker's graphical style (cel-shading) is harder to pull off then the new Zeldas more mature, realistic style.

I loved Four Swords for the Cube though I hope that on the DS it wouldn't require four copies of the game.  Aside from the fact that I already have LttP for the SNES that's what has prevented me from playing the GBA version.

Here's an interesting quote regarding an online Zelda.

"I think that the new generation of gamers is the one that's interested in this kind of game because for them it's normal to play online"

How interesting.  A Nintendo big wig that isn't outright bashing online gaming and is actually describing it as "normal".  A confirmation of Nintendo seriously going online next gen or a Nintendo employee with a different opinion than his superiors?

It might need four copies like the one on GBA but I remember hearing about how the DS would allow groups of people to play off one cart.

I hope this is another Zelda title for the DS.  I really want a new single player 2D Zelda game on the DS.

Same or not I think Nintendo should not put so much focus of connecting two systems at all ever in the future again.  The option can still exist but only for the players to find out and IF they have the parts.  With the DS all I have to worry about if the other person has a DS or a DS and the game.

The thing that gets me, is for four swords to be done right, everyone only needs their own screen...they don't really need TWO screens...thats why it worked on the regular gba....

Well, maybe now they'll add things that ned two screens?

Ian: The DS has complete remote-boot capabilities, Nintendo often enough stated that it can copy games via wireless to other machines.

Yeah but there's no confirmation that that will work with every title.  Nintendo hyped up one cartridge play on the GBA too and it proved to be really limiting and pretty much useless.  Until I find out more details I'm assuming multiplayer on the DS is going to have limitations.

Hm, I have very few games that use multiplayer where one cartridge would make sense (i.e. no RPG stats or trading or something) and one cartridge wasn't supported... I think the restriction here was RAM size and connection speed, you just can't stream content over the GBA's cable, unlike the DS' 10MBit or something connection.

The DS should have much better one-"cart" multiplayer abilities.  As KDR mentions, it has a faster transfer speed, and it also has much more RAM.  If Four Swords DS is a 2D game (which is very likely, considering the GC version was 2D), then it's completely possible that it could include remote loading.

I think the GC Four Swords was only 2d because of the GBA, while Nintendo doesn't completely block 2d gameplay they don't use 2d graphics when it can be avoided.

The kind of Four Swords that can be played from a multiboot session would be something like small dungeons, or a confined multiplayer mini-game, much like the kind the Cube's four swords featured at those )ugh) Tingle houses.
The reason for this is not only because (although the DS may have more multi-boot cache) of memory restrictions,  but also because from a business standpoint you really just want to offer enough of the game for a good taste. The ultimate goal of multi-boot I think is a hands on advertisement of the game that will hopefully convince you to purchase your own copy...

Many games allow full play with one cartridge and maybe a few pointless features if you're using multiple (Kurukuru Kururin, I think the Mario Bros games included with any Mario GBA game and I think I have a few others, too). I think it's merely a hardware issue.
