"Ian: You're not supposed to use your middle fingers for the second shoulder buttons."

You're not?  Hmmm this explains so much though I have seen other people play that way.  Nonetheless I think having four triggers is inferior to two triggers with six face buttons.

Agreed. I used to use my middle fingers for those buttons, too, and my friend told me one day to just shift my index fingers- it works a LOT better.

Truly this generation has the worst controllers ever.

I think out of this generation I will have to say GBA is the best, lol.

Seriously Sony is the most uncomfortable especially because of the D-pad yet i still prefer it over its joystick.

The Xbox's white and black buttons are single handedly the worst positioned buttons ever in mankind.  But at least xbox controller is ergonomic (controller s, and 3rd party controllers ONLY!!!!!!!!)

Try playing Capcom vs SNK 2, you have to use A,B,X,Y and then choose between using L & R triggers for strong attacks or using the white and black buttons, that ruined the game for me.

GCN on the other hand has the most comfortable controller ever, but the c-stick is an embaressment, and the z button is laughable.  I like the face buttons its simple and logical but it is god awful for fighters.

Here's hoping next gen we get some really rad controllers, and every system should have at least 4 ports and be wireless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And to stay on topic I hate Sony, worst quality ever, PS1 only works in upside down state?  PS2 disc error, Vertical side only, blue disc, etc.  Personally I've had disc errors and then the final straw was when my PS2 scorched my Simpsons season 1 disc (the bonus disc).  Weirdest thing ever, it left bubble marks inside the disc.  It currently doesn't play anymore,  thats when i used my extended warranty and got a xbox instead.

You think that since almost all of the ppl u know own Sony systems have had issues with it they would learn not to buy into their systems unless they took care of the issue.  I seriously hope ppl will learn something about sony next gen.

Why does Capcom use six buttons, anyway? One Must Fall: 2097 (best fighting game I played) had only two buttons and used the direction you pushed for determining the desired strength (forward for jab, none for medium, back for fierce). The special attacks were few but usable and easy to remember, the tourney mode was awesome (buying stats and robots, earning bonus stuff, etc) and it had LOTS of secret stuff.

KDR - My first OoT game was on the GC too.  I rarely had problems with the camera.  It not perfect, but it is still better than most games today.

4. The buttons have unpronouncable shapes to indentify them instead of letters.  The human brain adapts better to letters.  I respond very easily to "press A to do this".  If I hear "press Square to do this" I have to look down.  It's just too difficult to associate shapes with functions after a whole life of reading only letters and numbers in books, signs, posters, TV, movies, etc.  This isn't ancient Egypt.  Ditch the stupid shapes.

Thank you.  I thought I was the only person who hated the shapes on the face buttons.  I'm guessing Sony came up with it to be different and cool.  Ditch it and be like Nintendo and MS, Sony.

And I also want add that I dislike the position of the analog button.  It's right b/w the 2 analog sticks and they get in the way when I want to reach it.  Thankfully it doesn't get pressed often.

well they help out in combos, but before that came about most fighters didnt use them well and IMO everyone used strong attacks only.

I don't hate PS2.  In fact I prefer Japanese entertainment over non-Japanese entertainment in games.

Any Japanese Game Machine (Nintendo mostly) > PC (very close) > xbox (very far but no hate)

"Why does Capcom use six buttons, anyway?"

Because the six button layout is the standard layout for Street Fighter games.  It would be dumb to change it and piss off all the fans.  Using the L+R buttons for the strong attacks is not a problem since it's been that way since SFII was ported to the SNES.  Odds are if you're a fighting fan you're used to that setup.  Naturally six face buttons arranged to two horizontal rows of three would work better though.

imo the original Xbox controller (the Duke) is the best I've ever used, (except not great for fighting games, for that you need arcade style joystick and six buttons, NO exceptions). It's cradles well in the hand, and the button layout is such that you only have to move your thumb a slight amount. I hate the Xbox Controller S an extreme amount, but now it's the only one you can get. Triggers over buttons are debateable, but since they're pressure sensitive, they're the next best thing to an accelerator for racing games; buttons don't allow enough control over your speed.
PS2? They really should've made new controllers for this, and not used the crappy dated PS1 controller but just made it pressure sensitive (sarcastic yay!...). I don't care about the symbols because you only have to learn them and it really isn't that hard. Only game that's good for this conttroller imo is any of the SSX games (have to use your middle fingers, works really well). The stick's positions need to be changed.
Gamecube? Comfortable in your hand, but a bit too small. The button layout is pretty bad for alot of games, but works well for Zelda games, and Metroid Prime works well too eventhough it's not setup in the 'traditional' console FPS layout. I love the triggers, but the Z button is pretty lame. I don't know where they get off not making the buttons pressure sensitive; not only does it add an extra feature that the developers can work with, it also makes the controller easier on the fingers over long periods of gaming time. The octagonal indentations around the sticks work really well for 3rd person platform/adventure games, and are gererally just good for getting a precise 45 degree angle when you need it. Ninty really needs to drop their 'traditional' d-pad and stick grip designs though; the d-pad is just plain crud, you really dont wanna use it for anything except toggling stuff (Metroid, Rogue Squadron), and the stick grip gives me blisters, just like the N64 one used to (but at least it's rubbery and not that hard plastic).
Umm, I don't hate PS2, I just don't really like it either Eventhough I own one...
