Topic: Burnt out on gaming and how many bought games?

I'm wondering how many of us are getting burnt out on the same old re-hashed stuff everywhere (this includes PS2, Xbox, GC).  And hence the multiple "bla bla I'm so sorry I bought a <insert system here".  What games did you ACTUALLY buy for your Xbox, PS2 and/or GC?  I didn't buy very many I rented most and only bought Square RPG's or oldschool stuff that I'm hardcore about, all the other stuff I just rented.  The game systems with the most games I've actually bought is the PS2 and GC.  Whats it like for you?  How many games do you actually _OWN_ for your systems, and how many?  Also for Xbox and PS2 how many games have you pirated and burned / dl'd or copied from a rental?  I'm wondering if others percieve one of the greatest reasons the Xbox is so 'great' because they can pirate like crazy with a DVD burner and a mod chip but I guess the same could be said about PS2 but I'd think people that own Xbox are more tech savvy since they supposedly took a lot of 'possibly former' PC gamers.

Well, the games I have most for a system is either my NES or SNES, but I can't seem to find a good deal of my NES games(none of my favs, thankfully)...After that is my GC games, in which I have 20(21 when Tales comes out in 2 weeks)...18 Nintendo 64 games...My Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance collection consists of 16 games...Around a dozen Genesis games...and last on the list are my PS2 and Xbox games, with 2 PS games, 3 PS2 games, and 2 Xbox games...As you can see, I'm not particularly fond of much for the PS2 and Xbox...I'm not making the same mistake next gen

A couple of years ago I bought a used PS1 so I could play some of the Playstation classics I missed out on.  I've since regretted it.  Not because the Playstation is bad console but I just find it's really hard to fit it in with the new GBA and Cube games I've been buying and the used SNES and N64 titles I buy.  It's getting neglected because I don't have the time for it.  A little while ago I considered buying a PS2.  Afterall I have the money for it and there's a lot of exclusive PS2 titles I want to try out.  I also flirted with the idea of buying all of the upcoming gen systems at launch so I don't miss out on anything.  However I've since decided against both of those ideas because I just don't have to time to dedicate enough effort to make all those purchases worthwhile.  Ideally my schedule works best with one console per gen and since Zelda is my favourite game series it will be Nintendo's console.

I'm also thinking of being considerably more picky next gen due to the sheer amount of games I have that I've never beaten.  I'm comtemplating having a strict policy of not buying a new game until I've beaten the previous one or at the very least reached a point where the game ceases to be fun or is too hard for me to continue.  That should ensure that I don't neglect any titles I purchase.  I'll be like a casual gamer who only buys a few titles a year except I'll have more hardcore tastes.

you can pirate with the gc if you have a network connection and a computer with a 40- 80 gig hd if you plan on keeping the games that you dl. Hell i know i "backed up" my share of dc games when it was still popular.

DL992, Yah but you can't play pirated GC games until they get a working emulator, where would you get the GC media and equipment to burn a GC disk? It's not worth pirating until they get a working emulator anyway, you can rip games but by the time the emulator is working everyone will be ripping them full swing.  You can play your RIPS of PS2 and Xbox games on your console, you can't do that with the GC (afaik), or with the dc, since didn't the DC have its own unique media as well?

Talking about piracy is the quickest way to get banned. You don't want that, do you?

I have a stack of about 20 games sitting in my room. Unlike my GBA games most of them aren't finished. Most of them were played to some very hard part and abandoned after a few tries. Some I just got bored with without reaching such a part. The game I spent least time with was Harvest Moon, which I played maybe two hours before I got bored. The only GC game I rented was Wario World. I tried to rent 007EON, but it turned out to be an XBox version so I returned it immediately (didn't have to pay for it, though).
Currently there are no games coming out that interest me.

I only have the GC and my PC, no PS2 or XBox. I don't pirate PC games, though I don't buy many, either. All in all the last few months have been rather slow.

I'm the type of gamer who likes to play a wide range of genre.  If I play one particular genre too much, I'll get bored of it real fast.  Thus why my game collection is weird.

I have a policy of completing my games before buying a new one (like Ian), with the exception if I can pick it up cheap.  I try to complete all my games, unless I get sick/bored of it or is too hard for me to continue.  I also don't have the time to play all the games I want, therefore I have to be very selective.  Right now, there aren't many games that interest me.  Currently, I have 2 games I haven't started playing (they are RPGs, and won't start till the summer (that's winter for you folks in the northern hemisphere)), and 2 I haven't completed yet.  I recently completed NiGHTS into Dreams (bought that along with a second-hand Saturn), and am looking into buying some good Saturn games I missed out on, like Panzer Dragoon.

For a while I had a mentality of getting as many games as possible so last me for a long time if I ran into a time when buying games wasn't an option.  That has left with with around 90 games to complete across 10 or so systems + my PC games.  I generally am either playing lots of PC games or lots of console games.  In a PC kick right now, but I expect to go back to console soon.  I find this keeps things fresh for me, even if it takes me a long time to finish my games.


On another note, I see a lot of these threads poping up lately, IE, sick of games, sick of this companies games etc, perhaps we should all get a little time outside playing a game or two that involves movement?

I've discovered the highs and lows of having a job this console generation.  I can now buy pretty much any game I want, but I don't have time to play any of them!  Often I'll buy a new game that I see cheap somewhere, only to play it once and then leave it in the drawer.  It's not that they're bad games, either.  If I was still in University, I'd be playing all of them to  death.  A few examples:

Eternal Darkness: I got to the last level and then got Skies of Arcadia.  I haven't played it in about eight months.
Skies of Arcadia: It replaced Eternal Darkness, only to be replaced itself by Mario Kart.  I haven't played it in about seven months.
Wind Waker: I beat it once and now I want to play to "completion" on the second quest (all heart containers, etc), but I gave up about five months ago.
Metal Arms: I played it once and loved it, but haven't touched it since.  It's been collecting dust for about three months.

So I would say I'm burnt out, but in a different way...I want to play more games than I have time for.  I should probably do the same thing as Ian and AiAi, only buy new games after beating others, but I love games so much and I just can't help but feel like I'm missing out on the ones I don't have yet - I'm still totally fired up to buy F-Zero GX, Soul Calibur II, SSX 3, Beyond Good and Evil and quite a few others, though those four are really at the top of the list.

Yeah I'm in the same boat as you guys. I'm have too many games and not enough time. When I was kid and I only got 4 or 5 games a year I didn't have this problem. Now...I have too many games and not enough time. I actually traded in a bunch of my GC games to get more games that I probably won't beat. The only games I can seem to complete lately are RPGs. I never beat Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker because I lost interest in both. I still need to get off my ass and finish Metroid Prime before MP2 comes out. I lent my copy of Metroid Fusion to my best friend while I was playing Prime. He still has it. Its been months. He's finished it and I haven't even played it yet. I'm gonna do the same thing as Ian and AiAi. I'm cutting back on my game purchases. Between PC, GC, GBA, X-box, and my PS2(when it actually functioned) I've been stretched way too thin. I'll cut back....after I buy Tales of Symphonia, I've already reserved my copy.

I also developed some unhealthy backlog of gaming the only advantages of cuting back is focusing money on key purchases and your secondary ones should be cheaper.

I'm the same. I have 13 games already this generation, though 3 of them I never intend to finish. A game like Wario Ware has a lot of appeal to me, as do games with quick 'rounds', like Time Splitters 2 or SSB: M.

Strange though: whenever I start playing a game, I usually spend about an hour or so on it; definately enough time to enjoy a good RPG (like Skies of Arcadia, which I haven't played for a long while.)

Skies takes more than one hour between save points and for boss fights (last boss takes REALLY long!) later on...

I have bought more gc games than any other nintendo console.. (not counting GBA)  I haven't been upset with many of my purchases, they all seem fun and I think I at least got my money's worth.  I haven't beaten as many as I had hoped though.  I personally always get sucked into long term games.  Virtually all of my single player gaming time right now is taken up by Final Fantasy XI and training stupid Pokemon.  I hope nintendo continues to put out more multiplayer with single player like stories.  I love my current schedule of sitting down with the same crew once a week for Zelda:FSA.  Still haven't beaten it yet, but look forward to every weekend.  I too constantly try to stick to Ian's idea of only buying a game when I beat other ones.  The thing that makes that thinking really hard is christams and birthdays.  I get so backed up at those holidays that I can never finish them all.  Then some new game comes out that I have to buy and screws it all up.  I'm still struggling with how I'm gonna make time for ToS, but I absolutely HAVE to come up with a way.  =P

I've been getting my money's worth, but I haven't been able to put in enough game time to match the money like I used to on N64.

It's probably cuz I spend my entire Saturdays having dinner with friends and playing multiplayer games like SSMB, MKDD, Mario Golf, and recently Four Swords, taking a lot of focus away from my single-player games.

And for the past year, I've probably spent more time capturing/editing/encoding video OF my games than actually PLAYING them.

On the PC side, my graphic's card is outdated (tho it's awesome for video capture), so I'm pretty much limited to my classic Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear collection (BEAUTIFUL box set).  But seeing there recently aren't ANY tactical shooters, including Raven Shield, that have decent mission planning elements (all i see is SUPER GRAPHICS and ONLINE MULTIPLAYER OPTIONS these days), I don't have much desire to upgrade and pursue the latest "trends."
