Great Series that need to be re-made or ported
« on: June 10, 2004, 05:24:31 PM »
I think off all the great SNES games that companies have made, mostly  RPGs. Their are lots of series that need to be revisted, ported, or need to be in a collection.

I. What ever happen to the Actraiser Series? I loved the first one, a mix of Sim City and fighting. But the second was just based on Fighting.
II. Tales of Phantasia, great game, could it be ported to the GC and left untouch, just like on the SNES?
III. We all know that Nintendo's Puzzle Collection is coming to the States. What about a re-make of Tetris Sphere? Great Game, could it be made greater on the GC?
IV. Mega Man collection! What about a Castlevania Collection for the GC? And which ones?
V. How about a Technos Collection? Super Dodge Ball was the tone setter for the company. RiverCity Ransom, Riki Kuno, and Technos Samurai, both Riki Kuno and Samurai is little know in the states but a great game.
VI. Working Designs had made some great games that saw the light of the Saturn and the Super Famicon. Like Albert Odyssey, Would it be nice to see some of there games either ported or remade for the GC?

Any others suggestions/comments?

Kid Icarus (NES) - needs to be brought into the modern era. Total revamp.
EVO Search for Eden (SNES) - there needs to be another one like this. Cubivore was nice but not quite like EVO...
Terranigma (SNES) - never played it but heard it was supposed to be good. I'd like to see it ported to the GBA or something
Gunstar Heroes (Genesis) - ahh. Port would be fine on GBA.
Landstalker (Genesis) - I never got that sequel the ending promised. Ladystalker wasn't... was... ugh...
Dark Wizard (Sega CD) - I had fun with this one. Too bad they never made another one.
Snatcher (Sega CD) - wasn't this remade on the PSone as Policenauts or something but never brought to the US? Not sure.. Maybe I'm mixing Snatcher up with something else...
NiGHTS (Saturn) - no words needed, I just want to play another one like this
Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn) - same as above

I had Albert Odyssey on Saturn... never got to play it though. I had bought a used copy and it was scratched up so badly it didn't work (that's what I get for expecting something good for $5).

Now that I think about it Vay (Sega CD) was another one of those RPGs that sorta slipped through the cracks. It was kinda weird but... I thought it was fun, although the sheer number of random encounters were almost maddening. I'd also like to see a Lunar 3... no more remakes of the first two... I'm happy enough with the Sega CD versions.

The game I want to see remade the most is Goldeneye.  Update the graphics to match today's standards, add full voice acting from the real actors, throw in the Goldeneye theme song at the beginning, make some new bonus single player missions, and most important of all revamp the multiplayer to include bots, customization on par with Timesplitters 2, and LAN play (maybe online play as well).  Too bad this will likely never happen since Rare and Nintendo have parted and EA owns the rights to the Bond licence.

I also think it's time we got localized versions of Final Fantasy III, Dragon Warrior V and VI, all of the other Fire Emblem games, Metal Gear 2, and Dracula XX: Rondo of Blood.

Hmmm...you guys have made great choices. In fact, I agree with every game mentioned so far. Gremio your taste is exquisite. I mean you took most of the games I was thinking of. Anyway, I guess I'll add to the tally.

Phantasy Star V: 1,2, and 4 were excellent. 3 was okay. Anyway PSO is nice but I'd like a sequel to PSIV which is still one of my favorite RPGS.

Lunar 3: Come on Game Arts....you've tortured us long enough. Lunar 2 for Sega CD....didn't care for the PS2 port is an excellent game. Lunar 1 was moving as well.

Guardian Heroes: Yes they are making a new one for GBA but I'd like to see the original ported to GC.

Shining Force 3: I'm still ticked at Bernie Stolar. This was a game with 3 seperate chapters. They seperate games that comprised one overall story. We only get Chapter 1....WTF. Come on Sega, let Camelot port this to GC on 1 disc. I want to play as Median and Julian!

Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake: I know Kojima is busy but I wouldn't mine another collaboration with Nintendo...maybe NST, where modernize and bring these games to GC. I would love to play as Snake before he was a legend. I barely remember MG1 and never played Solid Snake.

Ninja Gaiden 1-3: I have Ninja Gaiden on X-box...I really like the game but, I miss the original NG storyline Irene Lew, Robert T.S. Jaquio (sp?) I'm surprised that they didnt throw Irene in DOA although I'm glad they didn't. I hate the ridiculous design of Tecmo's female characters as of late. I like nice looking women but jeez....they've gone WAY too boob crazy. Two words BACK PROBLEMS.

I know I'm missing a few. I post again when I think of some others. Ah...damn forgot to mention Crystalis and Blaster Master.

I'd love to see a Bonk/B.C Kid collection on GameCube. It's nice that they made a remake of the first and all, but a collection of them all in their original form would be grand.

A Sega Master System collection disc would kick ass, Reggie style, too. Wonderboy III: Dragon's Trap + Alex Kidd in High Tech World + Fantasy Zone + like thirty other games + things = WIN.

As for individual games being remade... ZOOL ZOOL ZOOL ZOOL. And Bubsy. Grrr, woolballs. Those games were pure platforming bliss, and Zool was also one of the first games to feature in game advertising (for lollies =O), which is hilarious somehow.

I think a Mega Man collection would be ridiculous.  It'd be the same thing over and over and over again.

One seriously awesome game for the NES is Lickle (found among the hundreds of roms on an NES emulator).  Very difficult, could only beat it with the assistance of a save state, but a great side scrolling game.  You switch between four characters (after the first four stages of the game, which are played seperately as the four characters) at will: a dragon (with chargable flame and flying), a knight (long punch, immunity to spikes, most life), a little dude (Presumably Lickle; throws some projectile and clings to walls), and a mouse (tiny and lays bombs).  Incredible freaking game, and it'd be nice to see an actually possible remake with improved graphics and more stuff.

River City Ransom was a good game, too, but I believe they've already made a GBA version of that.

I think GBA is getting some ToP action later this year, so pick it up.

I would love a remade Captain Commando game- beat 'em up at it's best.

How about a 3D Double Dragons? or I'll agree with a 3D River City Ransom, What engine would it use?. What about the series R.C. Pro Am? I love that Racing game, left my Thumbs hurting for days. I loved Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, still havent beat it yet and its the hardest i think in the Series. Nice MG collection would be nice, just the 8 bit counterparts! Isnt there a rumor going around about a Kid Icarus remake?!

Chrono Trigger Crono Trigger Crono Trigger. I haven't managed to get Chrono Cross yet (does anyone know if it was ever released PALside?).  A new game would be nice, presuming Square-Enix manage not to butcher with with razor sharp blades of ridiculous FMV, but even just a port of the first one to the GBA would make me happy.

I really must say more 2D Sonic games. I know there are the GBA ones, but I'm not so impressed by the one I've played so far. Sonic and Knuckles, on the other hand, is a favourite of mine, as well as Sonic 2 and the Sonic. What ht ehell happened to this series? The 3D games are mediocre at best, they don't deserve a mention compared to the 2D ones.

I wouldn't mind another Yoshi game in the same vein as Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story either. I know the second one got a lot of crap for it's lengh and difficulty, but those can be pretty easily fixed with a bit of time. I just loved the atmosphere created by Yoshi's Story (bar the urge to play Mortak Kombat afterwards), and think it would work really well with the additional space afforded with the Cube's disc format.

I'm not so up to date with the 3D RPG scene, so I'm not entirely sure if it exists or not, but another Secret of Mana game wouldn't go astray in my book.

I barely post here but here is a list of games that should be remade into something for todays world.

1) The Adventure of Lolo. HAL, what the hell. These were great puzzle games and very addictive. Then HAL gave them the shaft. What have they done since then? All I can remember is that LoLo and LaLa become very simple bosses in Kirby SuperStar for the SNES. They also made guest appearances on the cartoon too. I'd love to see HAL make another game after them.

2) Saturday Night Slam Masters. A very fun wrestling game made by CAPCOM on the SNES. They did make a sequal for the arcades but was very rare. With the new 3-d realm they could make a kickass version. Just look at Ultimate Muscle. That game has high flying moves and they could do the same for SNSM.

3) Duck Hunt. A lot of people want a remake. Just there's one bad thing. NO Gun! It would be interesting to see what nintendo could do to expand the game play and levels.

Theres more games out thre like Joe and Mac, Punch Out, Pokemon 3-d RPG, etc. But the 3 i mention are the ones I would really like to see be made.

My choices would be NiGHTS and Burning Rangers, for different reasons.

NiGHTS because I loved it and so did a lot of other people.

Burning Rangers because I believe it did not get a fair shake last generation.  It was a great concept, with delicious gameplay that was unfortuantely held back by the Saturn's capabilities, and unfairly restricted by a certain Sega exec.

They are remaking Cronotrigger for the PC and GC. Fully 3D version of the Original, Chronotrigger Resurrection is going to be out the 4th Quarter this year or the 1st Q in 2005.

One game needs to be remade for me to be eternally happy: Ogre Battle. Not Ogre Battle 64, not Tactics Ogre, but the original Ogre Battle for SNES...

I love that game so much. They need to remake it with better graphics, and it would kick ass...

Gunstar Heroes is definetly my first pick for games that need to be ported. And though I absolutely adore the GBA, I don't think it would do that game justice. Gunstar Heroes needs incredible graphics and music and sound enhanced. Following Lasers... I'll never forget you.

Well the obvious answer is a punchout game involving little mac somehow.  But i agreed with the magizine(cant remember if it was GI or EGM) that one of the games that has to be remade is basewars.  Not many people played this robot baseball title for the nes, but with upgradable parts it was way ahead of its time.  It would be cool if someone made a remake of this game, some company called ultra games made it.  Im sure it would not be too expensive for ninty(or another company) to buy the rights to it. I dont rember all about it but if you try to get to a base and the ball comes right away you go into a fight with the first(or 2nd or 3rd) baseman.  And you can upgrade your  weapons and your speed and stuff.  This game would  be a great remake.

Ultra Games was a sort of alias for Konami in the NES days.  Nintendo had this stipulation where a publisher (or developer, I'm not sure) could only make so many titles per year, as part of their "nintendo quality" standard or something.  But since Konami was so large and so talented, they made a few games under the name Ultra.  The only other one I know of, though, was Skate or Die.
