Winners

Nominations

Best of show = PSP. With its "spectacularly large and bright screen" it will apparently initiate a revolution in handheld gaming...

Hahaha, I can just laugh at people who proclaim the PSP will revolutionize anything... That's like saying Doom 3 will revolutionize FPS games.

I mean, the reasoning is "it looks cool, it has a big screen and it si teh mature!!!". Oh man, the kiddies will be all over this.

All in all this looks like "Hey casual gamer, we were payed big bucks, so buy THESE!". Maybe it's my personal hate for Halo, Splinter Cell and rappers speaking, but I don't get how Halo 2, Splinter Cell 3 or Def Jam 2 deserve those awards.  Generic FPS #8190, generic stealth game #227 and generic cash-in game #15374.

Another thing about the PSP. The DS is expected to cost in the region of $100-$200. The PSP is gonna be $200-$300+!!!! GIVE UP NOW YOU CAN"T WIN WITH BIG GUNS!

What the f*ck?!  The PSP hardware itself wasn't even PLAYABLE at E3.  There was like one playable "game" and I believe it was running on emulation.  These E3 awards are such sh!t.  Every year Best in Show goes to a game or product that isn't even really playable.

PSP?  More like Pee-Ass-Pee.  Ho ho!  Juvenile humour to the max!

Sorry, I had to get that out. I'm so ticked off right now. Those awards are crap.

And the industry gets dumber and dumber every day...

"Best of show = PSP. With its "spectacularly large and bright screen" it will apparently initiate a revolution in handheld gaming..."

Can somebody tell me what's supposed to be so special about this thing?  I thought for sure it took more than a backlit screen to be revolutionary.  Guess I was wrong again.  From what I'm hearing, all this thing supposedly is is a PS2 in a handheld form with a bunch of crap added to it.   I swear if the DS loses to this, I just might consider finding a new hobby.
It's interesting how in this industry the focus seems to be steering farther and farther away from the games each generation.

For starters I'm not at all surprised they think PSP was best hardware.  It does have the most power under the hood, but its just a popularity contest REALLY.

What I am surpised about though is that Resident Evil didn't win a single award, I thought RE4 was one of the best shown at E3 IMO.  Also i was surprised Gran Turismo 4 didn't win best racing game, but then again i don't like that game anyway.

Something about this list just reeks of money being passed under the table.  Everybody I talked to on the floor thought the DS was like totally neat.  And they had a "yeah that's cool, sorta" attitude toward the PSP.

Same with me, I didn't hear anyone talking about the PSP.  Even when walking through the booth (god bless media badges), there wasn't very much excitement or talk over it at all.  Sure the screens looks awesome I will give them that, but it may not even turn out to look that way when final hardware is decided upon.

Overall I have to agree with Deguello, something smells funny bout the whole thing.  There was not one Nintendo specific publishing writer in the people who voted.  Yet there are people from OXM and OPM (official playstation magazine?) who participated.  I don't think anyone with a direct bias like that should be able to vote for an award that includes nominees from their respective companies unless all are involved.

The problem with the platform specific mags is that the only one out there is Nintendo Power, which not only is written by Nintendo employees, but also isn't taken all that seriously as a publication.

I think they should have left out the official magazines in first place. The chance of them casting an unbiased vote is too slim to botther.

Exactly my point Bloodworth, which is why OXM and OPM shouldn't be allowed to participate.

Blarg.

I've completely lost all faith in the gaming media.

THIS is the reason Nintendo has an image problem. Even the supposed "hardcore" game journalists are ignoring Nintendo at this point.

Gah.  The gaming industry is going down the toilet.

RE4 wasn't even nominated for best of show.  But the 3rd Splinter Cell game in 3 years does.
