Nintendos new trademarks
« on: June 02, 2004, 03:31:19 PM »
I got this from ultimategamez.com it seems that nintendo registered some more trademarks but none make much sense, but here they are anyway.
COMMANDERPACK
COMMANDER
MISSION
Manebito/Camera
Ningen-Copy/Manebito
Peach Hime

It said Peach Hime means princess so there's proably some pricness peach game, WOOOOOO.  Could nintys new peripheral be the Manebito/Camera or perhaps the Commander Pack.  A thing similar to the eyetoy would be crazy but with a nintendo twist.

The Manibito is probably an add-on camera module for the DS and the Ningen-Copy/Manebito is a portable printer.

"MISSION Manebito, confirmed to be in production by NST.

MISSION Manebito (MAN-BITE-OH!) is Nintendo's first attempt at a fully interactive 'adult entertainment' simulator. Starring a full cast of well known Nintendo characters, the game will play like Smash Bros crossed with Wave Race with a hint of Punch-Out!!! and a cheap adult video rented from Blockbuster. The game will recieve a world wide launch on sometime later in the year. Avaliable for Nintendo DS and Atari 7800"

Peach needs her own game.  Im all for a camera that connects to the GC, Nintendo is the master of inovation and they will do something awesome with this.   The command pack is hopefully a device similar to DK's bongo drum, in that it connects to a the GC and has an innovative way to play a game.  Maybe it goes with a new pilot wings?

This Peach game is actually going to be the big launch title for the N5 because, you know, launching with a Mario supporting character instead of Mario himself worked so well for the Cube.  Peach: The Game will only use one button, will take 1 hour to beat, and has no replay value as the disc will destroy itself after you beat the game.

LOL! Quite right. Is it just me? Or is nintendo really out of touch with what the people want? Miyamoto keeps spouting stuff like: "We want games to get simpler and simpler" when I want games to get longer and more complex. Do people want endless remakes and rehashes of games that have already been released? Or light-weight games like luigis mansion for launch titles? I for one would like a new mario game for gamecube, one new true mario game per SYSTEM just isn't enough.

My guess: The camera will be Nintendo's answer to Sony's Eye Toy

Given the publicity the Eye Toy received around the holidays, I wouldn't be surprised if it sold to expectations, and caught others attention.

Personally, I do want games to get simpler, or at least no more complex.  I've run out of time for learning complicated new control schemes.  I bought Prince of Persia and got Splinter Cell free a few months back, and I just can't be bothered to learn the controls in Splinter Cell.  I've put two hours into learning them, and every time I get bored, and forget them by the time I try again.  It's probably a major roadblock preventing sales to casual gamers.

That's my opinion, not yours.

I was wondering if they were going to do such a thing with the Mario like that.  I mean people bitch that a Mario game is just "Save the Princess, get a cake, hurk" and when Nintendo deviates from that norm people want to return to what it was.

I like the deviation, because I really would think a game that starred Princess Peach would be fantastic if I'm thinking what Miyamoto's thinking.  Like say, Bowser kidnaps Peach, and then for some reason Mario's not showing up. Boswer, being impatient, decides to take the fight to Mario this time and abandons his castle.  And Peach escapes, because well...  that's what the game would be.

I see two distinct possibilities for a game like this.  Possibly a 3-D/2-D/2.5D Platformer in which you do the levels of a usual Mario game in reverse.  They could either make you do the usual increasing difficulty in which the only difference is that you are moving right to left (2D style) or just doing going backwards through 3D representations of the levels from, say Super Mario Brothers 1.

The other possibility is Nintendo doing their classic "let's take unfun genres that have stagnated and make it appeal to people who like gameplay" like they do with RPG's every now and then.   Imagine Peach having to sneak out of Bowser's Castle.  A stealth game could be done very well as long as they ignore two precedents.  Splinter Cell, with it's "OMG they found a footprint you made at the beginning of the level.  Please Restart."  And Sly Cooper AKA the most boring platformer, ever.

Either possibility is fine, and I believe I am very correct in saying EAD (if my speculation is right) has done weirder games before that turn out to be classics and have elements quickly emulated.  And I also believe EAD has never ever made a bad game, and I am including Luigi's Mansion.  Haters.

But really, I would like to hear what people already think of the game when they only know the title.  It's so insightful.

It's time you saw the future while you still have human eyes.

"And I also believe EAD has never ever made a bad game, and I am including Luigi's Mansion. Haters."

Luigi's Mansion is not a bad game.  It's just a bad choice for a flagship launch title that's expected to sell systems.  I tend to show a fair bit of hatred for it mostly because I firmly believe that if Nintendo had developed a much deeper and longer title to launch the Cube with the console would be in a much better position right now.  As a flagship title Luigi's Mansion suggested that the Cube was going to be about one-dimensional titles that can be beaten in a weekend that have no replay value.  Not exactly a good impression to give people.

Nintendo doesn't really make bad games but they can't promote okay games as great games which is what they did with Luigi's Mansion.

So Luigi's Mansion's commercials should have said "Yeah, it's alright. I mean, it's not bad, but it's not that good, either- it's okay. You might want to just rent it instead."

Ian was saying that Nintendo's launch campaign was so bad that even though it was a decent game they couldn't sell it or hype it even though it had a mario character in it.
