New Laptop question
« on: May 26, 2004, 09:24:36 AM »
Let me start off by saying I don't know much about PC gaming.  I just recently purchased a new laptop without the intention of playing games on it.  However, it does come with a 32 MB NVIDIA Geforce FX video card.  If the minimum requirements for a game (like Halo) are a 32 MB video card, how well will the game run?  Any help would be helpful.

You will probably have to play with less textures and a worse framerate.   Halo was originally designed for XBox which has 64MB of memory.  You really need more memory for optimal preformance.  I recommend AT LEAST 64 MB for Halo and many other current 3D games.  You said you already got the notebook right? If you havent and have the money, I suggest getting the new Alienware notebooks as you can actually update the graphics on them, something new to notebooks.

Yeah, I already bought it.  I don't need it for gaming, but thank you for the response.

Halo will run like sh#t no matter how good your computer. Gearbox has done an awful job with porting it.

Running Halo on a low end system is like brushing your teeth with a train.

That card is not well, good.  If you want to do some real gaming, that probablly will only afford you the very lowest settings on  a game like halo.

Well, you can't get the better cards in a laptop, so I'd say yu're actually pretty well off. Just try something else than Halo.

Don't Alienware make good laptops for gaming? (well, not as good as desktops though)

I think some of their laptops allow for upgrading the graphics card.

Better graphics cards easily eat 70 Watt and more, you don't want that in a laptop, do you?
