GC farewell?
« on: May 25, 2004, 02:20:43 PM »
It isn't that long since I own my GC, and a few days ago I heard that Nintendo had stopped its production. It might well be true: I don't see that many games at the shops (I currently live in Sweden) and I actually bought it because it was so cheap, and I realise that both things could well be hints in that direction. Maybe all of you know about it, maybe it was just a rumour, I'm no expert. Can someone tell me about it? Apart from that, whether it is true or not, how long do you think we will continue to get new games for our GC?

The only reason you haven't been seeing new Gamecube systems is because you live in Sweden . Nintendo hasn't stopped production on systems or games and the cube will continue to see new 1st and 3rd party games for a couple more years, until the next console is released.

Nintendo has stopped making Xboxes because the Playstation 2 has outsold the GBA in the portable market. Visual Boy for president.

Why worry for? You already have a GC anyway. At least if the GC is discontinued we can look forward to even cheaper games in clearance bins. Yeah!!!!

The cube wasn't discontinued, did you hear that from GameFAQs (are we permited to write that with G?) or some fanboy for another system?

There are those "Nintendo will close doors/go third-party" rumors that float around for quite a while now. Of course they're bullshit, but some people still believe them and feel the need to tel everybody. Wouldn't surprise me if those rumors spawned somewhere inside Sony.

That´s exactly why Nintendo must flex it´s marketing muscle, so that people who are drowning in BS2 and Xbox propaganda will know THE NINTENDO DIFFERENCE! And why Nintendo hasn´t stopped production, gone third-party or dissapeared. Because they´re going to take us to the next level of gaming...Gaming REVOLUTION!

If Nintendo flexed more marketing muscle, to compete with Microsoft's & Sony's marketing hype, then they will be more akin to whores on the streets, spending too much time and money on make-up to disguise their blandness, hoping to win more attention from the boys.
I like Nintendo's marketing strategy as it is now, relying mainly on games quality. Nintendo's like that gorgeous girl next door, who you've been in love with for years but she's too busy going to University and doing volunteer work to date you.

Heh heh. Good way of putting it. Judging by what I've seen recently, girls these days try way to much to act like "Xboxs" and "PS2s".

That's good news, but is it only Sweden then that has half as many games for Gamecube as for Xbox or PS2 in the shops or is it part of Nintendo's strategy?

Eh, another one of these...

Nintendo is cleaning up as far as making money.  The GCN was building up in warehouses so production was stopped to sell though the existing stock.  This is such old news.  There is no discontinuation happening.

Production was resumed half a year ago.

As for the unavailability, blame your fellow countrymen who bought XBoxes instead of Cubes. The allocation of store space depends on the sales ratios. If noone buys their Gamecube stuff they're going to reduce the number of GC products they stock. I think it has to do with manufacturers paying off the shops, as well, but I don't think that's the only reason.

who would want to buy anything but a gamecube for a console?! I mean, they are by far the best, even if no-one thinks so. I only have four games but they are all great and I think tht anyone who doesn't own a gamecube really needs one.... now. Shame on whoever hasn't got one (unless they want one but don't have one)

U got chrono for free way to go man! I wish i was lucky as you, my dad came up saturday with a box that had a snes and a master system (only 1 snes game, but like 15 MS) the snes works! But I can't find any good games for it ( Is secret of evermore good?)So i went on ebay but I found the prices too high. OH well i guess ill go to pawn shops to see if i can snag a good deal. BTW Secret of mana rules, sorry for going off topic.. i guess i should start a topic in other systems or somewhere else to see if people will add their 2 cents.

I enjoy Secret of Mana.  I would never sell those titles, Syl!  They are much too good.  My Earthbound sits in my SNES for when I enjoy running around with my Super powered guys.  FF3 I need to restart though, methinks.  Anyhow, I will never sell those games.

Yeah, i doubt i'll sell them either, I personally dislike secret of mana myself, but I'm holding onto it for completeness sake.

I've found the majority of my games in different gaming stores around the country, but the very large majority i bought from people in school for deals that are amazingly good.  (Chrono trigger for free was from a friend of mine) Similarily, i spent $20 and bought all 3 donkey kong countries, while another $20 bought me Super Ghouls'n'ghosts, Super Metroid and Super Gameboy.  awesome deals like that helped me achieve the amazing snes collection i own.  I always keep about $20 on me and I always check the used SNES games before i buy anything new.  Just this last weekend I bought Illusion of Gaia for $10 because it was hiding in a bin at EBgames.  (Same bin had  some great titles like Kirby: Super Star in it, but i already owned them)

Sometimes you just need to know what to look out for and you get lucky.

This is already horribly off topic, probably best to make a new thread to discuss SNES titles.

edit: found the other thread, its in other systems.  Go there ^_^

yeh well im from Australia and i get the same problem. The variety of gamecube games her is so bad. all they seem to sell are the crappy baby games that are made for 2 year olds. can someone tell me why there are no games for GC that are any good in Australia? and why gamecube has set their market for GC games to such a young age. dont they understand that they are leaving out the age of 14-19 which much prefer the action and strategy games that are on Xbox and PS2 and not the babyish mario games.

Their marketing & distribution division(s) are:

1)  Inadequately funded ---> Inadequately staffed (how many people are actually paid to visit and assess retailer preparations?)

2)  Lacking effective management/leadership personalities and regional resources.

3)  Have poor retail policies ---> Have poor retail relationships.

4)  Have poor relationships with their 3rd-party counterparts, diminishing the incentives to bring those 3rd party games to the masses.

It could be one thing, a combinatin of these things, or all of these things that are going wrong.

Yeh thanks that was the info i needed so when do u think this guy is coming to Australia..... and how long do you think it will be before Nintendo starts to release some good games for Australia? because dont they realise that the reason why Nintendo is doing so badly in Australia is becuase of the poor advertising and the games released which are designed for the younger kids and not for the older age teenagers who want games that have violence and are fun!

Didn't you look at the other thread?  It said he'll arrive before the end of the year.  So most likely he'll be around December 31, 2004 at 11:56pm for his New Years bash.
