The guy has a point, but his logic is really flawed and he's seeing more what he expects to see than what's actually there, or categorizing things into 100% sequel and 100% original. I stopped reading because it got quite irritating.

I think that says all we need to know about this fellow.

Well, that and claiming the GBA market is 6-12 year olds.

Yeah, I've just stopped visiting Gamespot.

I've also grown cold towards TechTV since it began merging with G4. G4 is about as anti Nintendo as I've ever seen, and they constantly kiss between the arse-cheeks of Sony and Microsoft. Makes me sick.

Uh, all I got out of that interview is that Microsoft will fail and Nintendo and Sony will be fighting for first place in five years. More like Anti Xbox bias.

He says EA will fail because they don't cater to the mature audience, which makes up 20% of the market. That might sound like much until you look at what makes up the other 80%. Games rated 12 and under. That's the market Nintendo and EA are going for, that's the market that produces the big money. Also, a big HAHA to his prediction that Activision will win. Erm, last time I checked catering to both audiences isn't worth anything if the games you're catering with are major crap.

Also, isn't 007:EON rated 16/M?

"He says EA will fail because they don't cater to the mature audience, which makes up 20% of the market."

What is this guy smoking?  EA totally caters to the mature audience.  What age group do you think Madden and all their other sports games sell to?  EA is playing it really smart.  Their top games are either sports titles or 'T' rated games.  The 'T' rating is the best rating to have because it appeals to adults and is appropriate for kids.  As much as I hate it EA will remain a huge success unless casual gamers lose interest in the gaming "fad".

I do agree with him in that I don't think Microsoft will maintain their momentum.  Once they're no longer able to throw around millions of dollars for marketing and buying other developers and actually are expected by the higher-ups to make a profit they're going to have to cut down on the Xbox's luxuries and the fanbase isn't going to support that.  They've made the mistake of training their fans to expect greatly superior hardware, and Xbox Live, and for important games to be "bought" and realistically they can't keep giving all that to the fans and make a profit at the same time.

Greatly superior to what?  The only way people can think that is if you listened to MS and their huge hype before the launch.

MS will have a problem if Sony decides to get up off their bloated asses and buy some developers/exclusives themselves.   I also think Microsoft overlooks Nintendo in their crazed pursuit of Sony.  If Nintendo is incredibly aggressive next gen. like they should be, they should easily gain a much bigger market share, and in turn get those 3rd party games that have been missing this gen.

Lastly, since when was Gamespots 'interest' a secret?

The hype is mostly what I meant.  From the listed specs the Xbox is the "most powerful" of the three consoles.  Rumour has it MS isn't planning on going with the raw power focused design this time because it's not profitable.  However that means that specs sheet isn't going to look as impressive (which for some reason is a big deal to a lot of fans) and the hardware itself may not be significantly more powerful thus not giving the Xbox 2 the advantage of having the best looking games.

"Greatly superior to what? "

Havibg all three systems and a kick ass display set up, I will say this. Games on the x-box generally look and sound much better than games on the gamecube, and much much better than my PS2.
The x-box titles seem to be more vibrant in colors and overall appearance. The sound is no contest, in game DD 5.1 sounds great.
Load times on the box and cube are similar with the cube having the slight edge, the PS2 load times can be horrendous.
The one thing I hate are the flipper disks on Gamecube games such as Tiger Woods 2004. Getting up to change a damn disk all the time is a pain in the arse. Bigger media would have been a real plus.
I like all 3 controllers, each has good and bad points.

Wow- that was completely irrelevant. We're talking about a Gamespot article, not how each console compare.

EA is appealing to a group much more diverse than just "mature" gamers with sports games- sports are universally enjoyed by a gigantic amount of people stretching across many ages, backrounds, gender, etc- targeting such a broad group with just one game will produce incredible results, and that's why Madden continues to do so well.

ROFL!!!  Completely irrelevant lol! PLEASE... The issue at hand had temporarily switched from the Gamespot discussion to whether XB is indeed superior hardware...  (as it often happens the name of thread doesn't always stay glued to that discussion).

Actually, the discussion was on Microsoft using the XBox's power as a marketing tool- we can thank Ian for gracefully shifting us back on topic.

as if it's automatically bad for a thread to go off topic.  no thread with alot of posts always stays strictly on topic.  often the best topics spring up spontaneously off another topic.  it's like stream of consciousness.

or I could just say lollerskates because that'd a better response according to Mouse ^_^

Because he's joking, joeamis- cubedcanuck was going extensively into something completely unrelated ("Get over yourself!" says the pot to kettle). If we're getting into an offtopic discussion, that's when threads usually get locked- Zoidy and Infernal just make jokes. Seriously, though, now we're REALLY offtopic- let's put a cap on this, eh?
