Nintendo's Conference

This article had me holding back tears, it looks like Nintendo is turning back into the Nintendo we once new.  If I was at that conference I have no doubt I would've been crying due to happiness.  They're finally answering the consumers pleas too.

Now what's up with PGC?  I clink on links and they don't load, same with the forum, I had to load this 5 times before it worked.  I'm upset I can't see the brand new E3 articles and discuss them with fellow PGCubers.  I guess PGC can't handle all the bandwith from all the people logging on?  Grrr I guess I'll talk to you all in a couple days then.  Now over to IGN to see the articles...

I'm still weeping.

E3 always puts a HUGE toll on the server. Tons of people all coming at once, downloading movies and pictures.

"it looks like Nintendo is turning back into the Nintendo we once knew."

Agreed.  I haven't been this impressed by a Nintendo E3 showing since 1996 when they debuted the N64.  This is the aggressive Nintendo.  This is the Nintendo that puts in 110%.  This is the Nintendo that creates games that EVERYONE wants to play.  This is the Nintendo I wanted to show up for the last three E3's.  They showed Metroid Prime 2 and the very impressive DS and those weren't even the highlight of the conference.  They had the better conference of the three console makers even without Zelda and that just came out of nowhere and surprised the f*ck out of everyone.  If that doesn't get best of show then I'm convinced that the media has it in for Nintendo.

And best of all this is a lineup from a company that is listening to their fans.  We wanted Wars and Fire Emblem on the Cube and we got it, some people (not me but whatever) wanted multiplayer in Metroid and we got it, and after the controversy of the cel-shaded graphics and the general assumption that the next game would retain the same look they listened to the fans and gave us the Zelda we fell in love with at Spaceworld those years ago.  I don't care if this company never again amounts to anything beyond a niche developer, they're making the game I want to see and that's what I wanted and wasn't getting with most of their Cube lineup.  I like most of their Cube games but it was more of a "it's not what I expected but it's still pretty great" situation.  With this lineup I don't have to be open-minded, I KNOW I'll like these games.

And best of all this looks like a Nintendo that's seriously trying to sell Cubes.  If these games don't sell consoles then I'm convinced that the game buying public has no taste and the game industry has turned into crap.  There's no excuse to not buy a $99 Cube now.  I'd buy a PS2 or Xbox if they were the same price and had a game that impressive.

It's not just E3, PGC got slashdotted twice in a row. Cube Europe and Gamespot went down as well.

Nintendo even listened to the few people who demanded a new 2d Mario!

Don't count on it.  I'm willing to bet it'll be Doom 3, Half Life 2, Hayloe 2 or <insert game only shown behind doors>.

Still looking for a downloadable version.  gcadvanced.com said they'd have one, but so far it's not up.  I'll keep an eye out.

I just read on article on Gamespy where they graded the three press conferences and they considered Nintendo's to be the WORST!  What the f*ck?  Sony's was nothing but numbers and the reasons they though Microsoft's was the best was because they had a funny skit that took shots at Sony and had Muhammed Ali, two "highlights" that have NOTHING to do with gaming or the Xbox's future.  Is there anybody who works at these "professional" sites that's actually a f*cking gamer?  Why don't these idiots go play Madden and host the Spike TV Videogame awards and leave the gaming journalism to someone who actually knows their sh!t?

Actually, they gave Nintendo a B, Microsoft a B+, and Sony a B-.  All generally equally enjoyable, but Nintendo was not 'the worst'.

Ahahaha!  What was Gamespy expecting?  Grand Theft Mario?

And Sony's gets an "F" from me...It was absolutely horrible...I almost fell asleep during the horrendous specs-a-thon...

You're right.  Sorry about that.  I thought they gave the Sony conference a higher score.  I still think they greatly overplayed the Microsoft conference and came across as pretty down on Nintendo.  There was a very pro-PSP, anti-DS feel as well.  Plus at the end of the article they started ragging on how Nintendo still isn't changing and all the problems are still there.  To me it seemed pretty anti-Nintendo.  I mean the first line for the Nitnendo part is "I'm really starting to dislike the Nintendo press conference."  It's like "okay I'll give them a B but I still hate them."

Yeah, GSI is pretty pro-PSP. They've shown that on several occassions. Didn't stop 'em from being blown away by the DS, though.

I agree Ian, they did seem awfully down on Nintendo, when I thought the presentation was really rather exciting.

Finally found a downloadable video of the Nintendo press conference. It's 330 megs. Click away!

Who Cares what Gamespy thinks. You just need to check the message boards and you know Sony had a terrible showing. Even frome Sony Fanboys. The PSP got Outshined by the DS. Sony spent harking on how you could play movies and music on the PSP, instead of showing games... they  only showed one game, Ratchet and Clank, and showed very litle fo MGS3 or God of War... Sony was terrible.  Microsoft was good but no surprises and nothing much from Rare. As a Rare fan i was disapointed, but as a gamer their conference wasnt as bad as Sonys... Nintendos conference was much better... the DS exeded expectations, and the new Zelda shocked... Cant wait for the DS...

Yeah, it was okay. Okay it was more than okay, it was amazing. But it sucks how almost every single game they showed off won't be out here (PAL) until 2005. What about the now Nintendo?

YAY I can post again!  Damn thats a downright shame regarding Gamespy's reviews.  Toad64ii are you new?  In any case thanks man!  I'll have to dl that tomorrow.  Yellowfellow that's just sick, well more funny than sick, but I do feel sorry for that man.  Anyways, not to burst the Reggie bubble in anyway but I saw a clip at the beginning of the conference and he kept looking up to the right, was he reading off a teleprompter thingy?  If so oh well, but he still did very well and very good work by Nintendo.

Hats off to PGC for showing pics of games I did not see on any other site, like the 2d mario for DS, mario party gba, and the new handheld zelda title.  Now a question to my fellow PGCubers is the new Zelda handheld title for GBA or DS?  And what was Cloudstrifes take on E3?

Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is for GBA. It looks really cool and the concept should be a lot of fun, I think.
