Midway Arcade Treasures 2 for Cube after all?
« on: April 23, 2004, 11:59:23 AM »
Gamespot is reporting the official list of games for Midway Arcade Treasures 2.

Linky

That's a pretty cool list of games.  The MK trilogy ALONE makes it worth a purchase.

Interesting though is that it mentions it's being released for the Cube.  Until now it was rumoured to be only for the Xbox and PS2 what with Midway being down on the Cube.  So either Midway has realized that the minimal effort in porting old games to the Cube is totally worth it or Gamespot screwed up.  I'm naturally hoping for the former and maybe this time Midway can make it available in stores and stuff.

Damn that is pretty sweet... I remember going to Jim Kelly football camp and instead of playing football I pounded quarters into the Mortal Kombat machine.  =P  And I always like more guantlet.  I just hope this one won't have an "add quarter" button that completely gets rid of the hopes of competing for high scores like in the first one.

IGN just did their nightly update and confirmed that Midway Arcade Treasures 2 is indeed coming to the GameCube! I went nuts looking for the first one for about 3 or 4 days after it's release in December until I finally found a copy at my local GameStop.

The article mentions that Midway was supposed to make this announcement back in February, but they had to delay it due to "negotiations with Nintendo" to get this sequal on the 'Cube. I wonder if these Midway-Nintendo talks have restored any possibility that other Midway games will become 'Cube-bound?

MK Trilogy *THUMBS UP*.

Will this be the first time we ever get a "perfect" arcade translation of the first MK on consoles?

I  think i heard the guys at X-play say that Midways decision to cut GCN was before the 99 dollar price cut that surged sales.  That might be wrong, but its possible that if that was true then the surge, might have changed Midways position. I hope so cause I like MK alot and wouldnt mind seing the new MK on the Cube... as well as Midways Arcade Treasures 2.

"Will this be the first time we ever get a "perfect" arcade translation of the first MK on consoles?"

I think so though the SNES port of MKII was pretty damn close.  It will definitely be the first accurate port of MK1.  I'm actually a little more psyched for Primal Rage which as far as I know never really had a decent home port.  My friends and I used to play it all the time in the arcades when it was released.  Though I really have no clue if the game will hold up to my current standards.

One issue with this collection though is that all the fighting games are going to suck on the Cube controller.  I think I may have to buy some Hori pads for this.

I'm quite pleased that Nintendo actually went to some trouble to get a compilation with limited appeal released on the Cube.  Midway seems to be back in the process of making good games again so I imagine Nintendo recognizes that.  I believe The Suffering was the first multiplatform Midway title to get canned for the Cube and that game has actually received some pretty decent reviews so in retrospect letting Midway go was probably a mistake.  I just hope this isn't the only title to return since NARC looks pretty interesting and naturally I want the new Mortal Kombat game.

I heard the 32X version was really good.

Yeah dude, they're only like 20 bucks tops. Or get an X-Arcade or MAS stick or something.

In other news, I'm pleased to see Primal Rage, Gauntlet 2, Total Carnage (that game was crazy shizzle dudes) and erm Rampage World Tour. My brother loved some of these games more than I did, actually, and I had some fond memories playing with 'em. I think maybe I'll buy an extra copy and send it to him.

I have to say that just having Primal Rage and MK2 makes this collection awsome and in my opinoin way better than the first one.

I just wonder, do you think they will use the final versions of every game? I'm pretty sure they will but you never know.

I was going to say something about versions, and then I thought of how NBA Jam had some different secrets depending on which arcade revision it was, and then I started wondering why the hell NBA Jam isn't on it.

That is a good question, why isn't NBA Jam on it. I think it may have something to do with the NBA liscense and who holds it and/or how much it cost.

Another question would be is MK3 ultimate MK3 or just normal MK3, and is Ultimate considered a different game anyway or just another version number?

There were many arcade versions of MK3, from 1.1(I think) to 3.0.(again I think, which I also think was Ultimate)

I doubt it- this seems more like a special case because it's so cheap to make and port that Midway is almost guaranteed to make money off of it, something which they need very much. I see this more as an exception to their new strategy rather than a sing their dumping it all together.

I agree that the MK trilogy is the greatest series to ever be put on a compilation disc. The Windows version of MK1/MK2 that was released as a 2-pack are the best ports of those 2 games (the Saturn MK2, and the nearly identical Japanese-only Playstation MK2 were pretty damned close though), and it's probably a toss-up between the PSX and PC versions of MK3 for best port there. MK4 was best ported on the N64 if you ask me, but MK Gold for Dreamcast was a lot better.

A wierd thing about the collection though - Primal Rage was made by Atari, not Midway. I guess Midway picked it up somewhere down the road when Atari pretty much died.

This is going to be the 1st time I ever buy one of these arcade classics discs, and I can't stand the wait.

I made Sub-Zero fall into an endless white background in MK Gold by walking foward. *Thumbs up*
Hard Drivin' was one of the most hilarious games I blew money on at the arcades when I was a kid. If you drove on the grass for too long, your car exploded in wonderful low-poly chugging 3D, good times. This collection is awesome, I'll most certainly be getting it. Too bad Midway won't release a PAL version for GameCube. =/

IF THEY MAKE A 3RD ONE, RUSH BETTER BE IN IT. CAPS LOCK.

OHWELL, primal rage = that hilarious fighting game where various dinosaurs and giant apes tear chunks out of each other in hilarious gory fashion that was really shallow but hilarious all the same rite? either way I'll definatly grab this for my ps2 ;__; curse you PAL.

it's worth it to me for Primal Rage (if it's the game i'm thinking of ofcourse) alone.

They actually made like 3 revisions of MK GOld, the latest being a blue disc with "HOT NEW" on the game's case. Pretty much every bug was removed from it, but there were still a couple small ones.
