Explore the outback once again with a Tiger called Ty in a continent called Australia.

EA’S TY THE TASMANIAN TIGER 2 TO BOOMERANG INTO STORES THIS FALL

Popular Tasmanian Tiger Returns in Action Game Featuring Huge Environments and Host of New Boomerangs, Vehicles, Mech Units, and More.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – April 8, 2004 – Everyone’s favorite Tasmanian Tiger returns to take back the Outback this fall in TY the Tasmanian Tiger™ 2, Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today.

TY the Tasmanian Tiger 2 picks up where the original popular action platform game left off. The cast of characters from down under has grown, and so has the action! The evil Boss Cass is up to his old tricks.  After breaking out of Currawong Jail, this feathered villain has re-instated himself as the dictatorial ruler of Cassopolis, a high tech island home to lizards and birds. Now Cass has hatched a plan to take over the world with an army of Uber Reptiles.  It’s up to our boomerang-wielding hero, TY, and his newly formed team of Burramudgee Bush Rescue mates to stop Cass!

Set in the Outback of Australia, TY the Tasmanian Tiger 2 will offer platform gamers a huge open environment to explore by foot and vehicle. This time around TY is equipped with an arsenal of 21 upgradeable boomerangs, including the Lasharang, Kaboomarang, and Megarang. In addition, the game will feature five different “Mech units” to help TY fight large numbers of enemies and complete mini-missions.  With these “Mech units” TY will have the ability to swim under lava; shoot lasers, Blastorangs, water or fire; and much more. TY will also be challenged to complete driving and flying missions featuring combat and puzzle solving, with access to helicopters, submarines, and off-road trucks. Unlockable cart racing mini-games will allow gamers to challenge their friends in seven unique cart racing levels.

Under development by Australia-based Krome Studios, the team behind the original TY the Tasmanian Tiger, TY the Tasmanian Tiger 2 is scheduled for release this fall for the PlayStationâ2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft, Nintendo GameCube™, and Game Boy® Advance.

Has anyone even PLAYED the first game?  The first game was in the bargain bin almost from the get go.  This is the very definition of a useless sequel.  The first game didn't get good reviews and wasn't very popular yet they make a sequel anyway.  No wonder all these third parties are losing money.  How much you want to bet the Cube version will bomb and EA will use that as an excuse to lessen or maybe even drop Cube support?

Funny how EA will make a sequel to f*cking Dash Dingo but hasn't made sequels to General Chaos or the Mutant League games.

I'm shocked EA is making this game too, but not disappointed.  My girlfriend bought the first because she happens to be a huge fan of Thylacines/Tasmanian Tigers, and I'm glad EA is going to continue supporting it, because it has potential.  I thought it was very reminiscent of Rare's platformers.  Unfortunately, that includes the weak points of Rare's platformers, especially way too much collecting.

Nevertheless, Ty had a decent sense of humour, awesome art and character designs, impressive production values and a unique, if a bit overblown, Australian vibe.  Also, you got to ride around on a bull and smash everything in sight.  That level alone made the game worth it.  I think the developers need to put some serious effort into improving on the first game, but if they do, this one will definitely be worth checking out.
That's my opinion, not yours.

G'day mates.
Ty the Tasmania Tiger is a great Aussie icon of this wide, brown land of ours. There's nothin suss about this game, let me tell you. I've played this game, and stueth! It's a beauty! I mean, there are boomerangs that have stacks of new powers, and you have tons of a new abilities to use! Cass is a goose. Just go to his hideout and give him a smack over the head, then take him to the PM's office, where Johnnie will give him a good tellin off, and then deport him to Tassie where all the inbreeds live. I must say, driving around in a big Ford V8 ute running over machine gun-toting Koalas and chainsaw-wielding wallabies has some appeal, too.

This is one mascot that would work better on the GBA as a 2D platformer. I've seen the GC version of the original for as little as $15 brand new, it's quite obvious it didn't do very well at all. Oh well, it's nice to see EA hasn't gone completely Need for Speed/The Sims on us..

It's made by an Australian developer, so it instantly gets my support. But buying it is another proposition altogether.
