...then you have to see The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network. They have these lil 5min shorts based on things between Episodes 2 & 3. And after seeing most of them I can cleary say that as a whole they are better than 2 of the movies. Which 2 I'll let you decide after you see them. They're produced by Genndy Tanatarsky, the guy who does Samurai Jack. They smoke. If you get the chance I HIGHLY suggest that you endulge yourself in this SW goodness. "They can restore you faith if ou allow them to".

I wish I could see them - I really need something to restore hope in this new "trilogy" because it just didn't cut it.
Meh, I'll just settle for the original three - the only ones I'll acknowledge right now.

The only reason The Clone Wars cartoons are any good is because Genndy Tartakovksy is making them, and he's a goddamned genius.

Otherwise, the new trilogy sucks hardcore- Lucas needs to be brought out to pasture.

Besides creating a cartoon that can only be surpassed by Looney Tunes and Futurama (Dexter's Lab), Genndy Tartakovksy also created what is in my opinon the finest action cartoon ever to grace television- Samurai Jack (which was my real reason for bringing up Tartakovksy at all). The Clone Wars cartoons are basically Samurai Jack with a Star Wars setting.

I don't think Star Wars sucks. No Star Wars is one of the best movies I've ever seen and it's two sequels are even better.

The prequels are merely Star Wars in name only. They're nothing but product designed to launch lines of action figures and videogames. Therefore I'm not going to make a blanket statement like "Star Wars sucks" based on those films. It wouldn't be fair to the original trilogy.

I don't have the Cartoon Network so I can't see these Clone Wars cartoons. It doesn't really matter anyway though since my interest in the prequel universe vanished when I saw Episode II. I actually found Episode I to be pretty watchable. It wasn't on par with the original films but it was still pretty fun and I felt Lucas could easily salvage the prequel trilogy with the second and third film. Episode II however just plain SUCKED so unless Lucas has the sci-fi equivalent of Return of the King in the works for Episode III the prequels are a doomed project. When an offshoot cartoon is better than the real thing there's a problem.

That wasn't Genndy Tartakovksy, it was Craig McCracken, who was the art director for Dexter's Lab. I think he was also the art director for 2 Stupid Dogs, another Tartakovsky-created show.

Ian: The original trilogy ranks among some of the finest creations of mankind. I do find it ironic, though, that the two films widely considered the best (Empire and Jedi) were neither written nor directed by George Lucas. I view the fact that A New Hope turned out great as a fluke, similar to how The Matrix turned out good while Reloaded and Revolutions were horrible.

Nope- Craig McCracken wrote and directed The Powerpuff Girls Movie, as well. Genndy Tartakovksy did direct some episodes of The Powerpuff Girls- maybe that's what you're thinking of.

I've realized that too. Odds are the prequels would have rocked if Lucas merely supervised them instead of directing and writing them. He did have a lot of input in Empire and Jedi but the stuff he sucks at like writing dialogue was done by someone else. By focusing on his strengths and letting someone else handle his weaknesses the results were two amazing films. Too bad he can't figure that out now. With Empire and Jedi did he volunteer to step back from directing and writing or was he forced to by execs who figured out he just got lucky?

When George Lucas collaborates with talented writers and directors you get Indiana Jones. In other words he's awesome as long as he's got someone to tell him which of his ideas are good and which of them suck.

Have you noticed that Rick McCallum is involved with the prequels and the special editions but wasn't involved with the original movies? Maybe he's part of the problem.

Exactly! Lucas didn't have sole reign over those two Indiana Jones movies and they're some of the best action/adventure flicks ever made. If, like you said, Lucas would focus on his strengths, like creativity and vision, and let others handle the weaknesses, like writing and direction, some incredible movies could be made.

I believe MC was leaving out Temple of Doom which, though not bad, wasn't quite as great as Raiders and Last Crusade...

I don't think Lucas had anything to do with the second one, Temple of Doom- that was all Spielberg. I personally liked it a lot, but not as much as Raiders of the Lost Ark and THe Last Crusade, and a lot of people don't consider it a good movie at all.

I did some research on IMDB and Lucas was the exec producer for Temple of Doom so he was involved with all three. I'll admit though that that one wouldn't be one of the best action/adventure flicks of all time. In fact if the Last Crusade wasn't made I would have considered Raiders to be a classic film with a lousy sequel. Instead it's a trilogy with a weak middle that's still worth watching like Back to the Future.

they dont suck, but they were kind of disapointing. jarjar binx basically ruined it for me. when there is some retard speaking in a language you dont understand, and there are no subtitles, it would piss anyone off.

Pay TV, is what I meant, which includes cable, satellite and any other way you get pay tv.
I don't have it, so therefore I can't watch Clone Wars unless I download them.

Apparently none of you have the Indiana Jones DVD set. George actually had more involvement with the films than I ever thought he did. He basically came up with the story for each film and was on the set quite a bit. For instance it was George that wanted Temple of Doom to be dark because he wanted to follow the formula he used with Star Wars of having the second film being the darkest one.

I do agree with you guys that George is great at coming up with characters and story, but he's awful when it comes to dialog and directing. By the way, George even had help with the dialog on the first Star Wars film even though he was solely credited for writing the script. Apparently all the better lines came from George's friends and such.

As far as the Clone Wars cartoon, I'm surprised at how many people like these better than the movies. To me they amplify all the bad stuff in the films. Horribly corny dialog and bad acting. I guess people enjoy them more simply because they're pretty much made up of non-stop action.

I didn't actually say that I like them better then the movies, because I don't. I can watch the star wars movies again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and can never get tired of them.
