2/24/03 - 3/2/03

6) Metroid Prime 44,100 (44,100)
8) Final Fantasy Tactics 33,911 (324,444)
10) Pokemon Sapphire 17,967 (2,029,945)
12) Pokemon Ruby 14,250 (1,981,082)
15) Metroid Fusion 12,480 (84,347)
27) Nintendo Puzzle Collection 6,380 (68,833)
43) Zelda: Wind Waker 4,267 (615,116)

Metroid Prime had a solid debut. 44,100 in three days is pretty good. The game is still in the Japan top 10 daily charts so its going nowhere. Pokemon refuses to leave the top ten. Mario Party 4 is fell off the chart. I think that it was due to all the new games released this week and it may return to the charts next week. Megaman EXE Transmission comes out next week. The GBA games are popular so the GameCube version may sell well.

It will be real interesting to see Zelda's numbers in the US when the time comes.
I know there are about 250k in pre orders because of the bonus disk, but will it sell to anyone else?
I would think that if you were going to buy it you would take advantage of the pre order offer, wouldnt you?
I have spoken to a few people I know who "were" Zelda fanatics who said they wont be buying it after seeing and playing the demos.
The month after it comes out should produce the most interesting sales charts in Cube history.

250K was before the bonus disc offer officially even started. I would not be surprised if it is getting close to 350K now that it was advertised. Too bad they are not doing the bonus disc anymore at least for the time being.

3/3/03 - 3/9/03

5) Megaman EXE Transmission 27,824 (27,824)
8) Final Fantasy Tactics 21,767 (346,211)
10) Pokemon Sapphire 15,467 (2,045,412)
11) Pokemon Ruby 14,325 (1,995,407)
14) Metroid Prime 13,063 (57,163)
16) Metroid Fusion 12,400 (96,747)
35) Nintendo Puzzle Collection 4,240 (73,073)
38) Zelda Wind Waker 3,756 (618,872)
49) Mario Party 4 2,550 (753,973)

Not so great debut for Megaman. I expect better because of the popularity of the gba games. I guess since their not the same type of game, it would have different sales. Pokemon is still in the top ten. Ruby will pass the 2 million next week. Mario Party 4 is back on the chart. I don't think that anything comes out next week.

Heh . . . it is not out of the realm of possibility that North American Zelda preorder numbers will be greater than the amount of copies The Wind Waker has sold total so far in Japan in a three month span.  I don't think anyone would have fathomed such a possibility six months ago.

I'll have to agree with Mingnesium and say that Mega Man EXE Transmission's debut is exceedingly disappointing.  When the week was the game released?  Metroid Prime is losing momentum a bit quicker than I anticipated but is still doing great for a game with a first-person point of view.

Different culture, different interests.

Japan isn't "stupid" for not liking certain games for Metroid Prime.

For example, I'm not much of a fan of FPS games for the PC.  While I LOVE strategy games.  I can play the best FPS game out there as deemed by mnay but I still probably wont like.   On the hand, if given the best RTS game, I would be in heaven.

Mario if you have seen how well Halo sold in Japan you would know that Japanese gamers don't care for first person games. Dating sim games don't sell here in the US. Different tastes for different cultures....it doesn't make anyone stupid. Anyway if I remember correctly Halo only sold 50,000 copies....seems Metroid Prime has outsold it already. Honestly I didn't expect Metroid to sell 50,000 copies in 2 months. Its sold nearly 60k copies in two weeks. I'm sure the game is doing much better than Nintendo anticipated.

They sure do

Anyway, i wasnt being serious, its just that two of the best games ever created bombed in Japan, but not in America. And they probably wont bomb in Europe either. Take that as you will, and yes i am aware of the "but Japan doesnt like teh fps" argument, but cmon, its Metroid!

Americans don't like RPGs that much. The exception seems to be Final Fantasy. Dragon Quest 7 sold like 4 million in Japan. In the US, Dragon Warrior 7 didn't even past 200,000.

GaimeGuy simply implied that the Japanese thought that Americans were stupid for not taking a liking to Japanese RPGs (pre-Final Fantasy 7), just as you jokingly wrote that the Japanese are stupid for not taking a liking to American first-person perspective games.

Ahhh . . . looks like Mingnesium beat me to it, what the heck, I wrote it, I'm going to post it anyway.

Wow. Japan loves FF. I guess that is good news for Final Fantasy CC. Pokemon out of the top ten. Zelda: LTTP had a nice debut with 105,100. It seems Metroid Prime will not reach over 100k.

3)  Made in Wario  83,282  (83,282)
8)  Legend of Zelda: Four Swords  45,970  (151,070)
10)  Final Fantasy Tactics Advance  18,213  (384,149)

33)  Metroid Prime  4,750  (67,501)
35)  Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker  4,500  (627,323)
47)  Nintendo Puzzle Collection  3,220  (79,493)

Nintendo has found a hit in Made in Wario. I could see this game staying in the top ten for awhile. Next week is pretty big with the release of Soul Calibur 2 and PN03. PN03 has seem to bomb. I haven't seen the game in the top ten daily charts. Soul Calibur 2 for GCN could be the best selling version. The last daily chart I saw had it #7 while the PS2 version was at #10.

I don't think SC2 on the Cube can outsell the PS2 version (in Japan, or any market) for that matter. There are just too many darn PS2's! Maybe it will steal the thunder for the first week.
