By the way, when I say that we'll be adding more prizes, I'm not kidding.  There is some awesome stuff coming, I just don't have full confirmation on it yet, so I didn't want to include it and then something happen and couldn't give it away.  More prizes will probably added tomorrow, and some of it is awesome stuff.

Also, I will try to post some pictures of the current prizes tonight.

You can’t sue us for taking part in our contest.....

hahahahahahahah  Louie the cat will poop on you! =O

Anyway, I don't really like the contest. =\  The main reason is because I have absoultely no idea what I would do, but I'm sure someone could come up with something creative.  But do you realize how many people can even do this?  Not many (unless they all decide to do GIFs or flash [Perm's gonna win]).  First, you'd need a digital camcorder or an analog camcorder and a capture card.  Then, you probably need some form of editing software.  Then, you need to be able to convert the files into different formats.  And THEN, you'd need ample webspace to put it on, and most free ones won't allow it or don't have enough room (or bandwidth).  You could use an FTP, but not many people have knowlege of how to set up one, or have a router and don't know their IP address (me =P)

If you can do all of this, than good luck.  or if I'm missing something and this is a whole lot easier than I make it out to be, then please tell me. =p

I have all of those things so shut up and let me win the contest.

We do not really expect people to shoot live footage for this contest, although there were certainly plenty of them last year.  For an online ad like this, the easiest formats to use would be Flash for animated GIF.  Those were originally the only formats accepted, but Ryan convinced me to allow other formats because he can convert them around and drop them into a Flash movie, which lets pretty much anyone watch them.

I have updated the contest page with more links to this thread, as well as a note clarifying that you may use animation and/or live-action footage.  However, I think animation will be more tasteful in most instances, if you are planning to make this look professional.  If you want it to be silly, live-action could be useful.  Either strategy is valid.

Do you want this to be fully original? or can we take Nintendo art?  Also, is using other, lets say trademarks, illegal?  Like say, if we were going to bash said trademarks?

Flash animation raelly isn't my forte, as it is for say....Perm.
Live action would be the only way to go for me.
But compression is the obvious downside, so probably a 30second to 1minute thing would be ok right?

While winning this thing would be ABSOLUTELY F**KING AWESOME, I'm merely going to use this for camera-directing and script-writing experience, since this is basically what I'm doing in Uni right now.

But MY GOD! How cool is this contest!
(If this was what happened last year, I didn't know about it )
BUT WOW!

Oh, and like Pale said, would we be able to use footage/images from Nintendo games?
And with the Copy of MGS:TTS, if say, someone in a PAL region won it (like us Aussies), would you organise the copy to be for PAL and get the team to sign that one? Or are the copies already signed, NTSC copies?

Please do not use logos, art, screenshots, etc. from any video games...although most of that kind of material is legal to use on Planet GameCube for informational purposes, I'm pretty sure we could not legally use it for promotional purposes.  You are free to use PGC's own art, screenshots from our DVD, images of the DVD box or t-shirt, old pictures of Louie sitting on top of hardware, clips from the Goombas comic...anything like that.  But please don't use assets from other companies, because it may mean we wouldn't be able to use your entry, and while that wouldn't explicitly disqualify you, we aren't going to be selecting commercials that we can't use.

They will be NTSC copies, but you could play them with a Freeloader, most likely.  Otherwise, it'll have to be a keepsake...and a nice one at that.

Ahahahaha. KnowsNothing = WIN!

I don't have Flash, or a video camera. I don't even have any pudding. Can I make something with Powerpoint? Think of the looks you'll get running a slide-show animation! "I dislike it, too many clip-art images screaming across the screen."

Can we use 3d programs? Like,Maya, 3ds Max, or the free one, anim8tor?

If so, can we encode the video using divx 5 codec? So the filesize is extremely smaller...

And remember, it's not enough to make people want to visit PGC. They have to be scared to death of NOT visiting PGC.

(I wonder how many advertising people have used that idea...)

You can definitely use a 3D animator program if you then turn it into a standard movie format.  DivX is fine.

Ok, sweet! I might try to work on something! It might just be your guy's logo, then says some stuff, then has like explosions and other special effects... maybe.. muwhhahhaha... Hehe.. :-/

We are allowed to submit as many things as we want right?

Oh, by the way, could I know what FONT is used for the logo? :-D

... sorry for editing it again, but, can we do parodies? Like, make something that Resembles, say a pikmin for example, or something...

EDIT 3: :-D Sorry for the edit again, but, can I model a Gamecube system and use it in the video, since it's copyrighted... Or is this just, no using Copyrighted Characters?

I sent in a video with mario music and references to gamecube. The GameCube logo appears in the background. Would this video be eligible or do they count as "copyrights" we can't use?

Check out the contest page to see all the new prizes!  The total approx. prize value has more than DOUBLED!

Roger, we received your entry and it should be fine.  We are Planet GAMECUBE after all, so I think using the GameCube itself is no problemo.  I will talk to our staff artist, Ryan, about getting a hi-res version of the logo for you guys, as well as some of the fonts we use.

So there's X-Arcade controllers now?!  Now I'm really going to try hard to win.

If I was to have an screenshots of the PGC web site in my entry would I have to remove the banner ads that appear on your site?  You guys said there shouldn't be any copywritten material and I assume that would count as such.  Though I'm sure the contest sponsors wouldn't mind if some of their ads made it in.

I assume that footage of me playing a Cube game is okay.  How specific does the copyright stuff have to be?  Do I have to blur out the "Toshiba" logo on my TV if it appears in my entry?

I just realized that the song "Five Long Years" by Colin James would be perfect background music for this except I, you know, didn't write it.

Hmmm. Can this be like a 10 second intro thing. Like a logo intro to a movie ... Or does it have to be more like a commercial?
