Tour of Former Nintendo Developer Rare HQ
« on: March 08, 2004, 04:47:44 PM »
Website: http://www.rare-extreme.com got an exclusive look at Rare LTD with their recent tour of the developer.

They still developer for the GBA but if you read the tour, do you feel that you are glad Microsoft owns Rare now or would you rather they still develop for Gamecube?

I miss them for Nintendo

its a great article with photos!!

Rare made me sad with Grabbed by the Ghoulies...

If they ruin the next Banjo game, I will have to damn them forever...

Ironically Grabbed by the Ghoulies is apparently a fairly "kiddie" game. Just think about that for a while.

I rate GBTG around a 7.5 to an 8. I didn't think it was all that bad. I'm still a big fan of Rare and I'm looking forward to Conker and Kameo on the Xbox.

When asked about Killer Instinct 3, Jet force Gemini and Rare’s rumoured MMONRPG, our guides response basically revealed that if a character is established, there is always chance of it re-appearing in the future…

Then where the hell are the Battletoads? It's been over ten years, Rare! ;__;
I spose I'll have to get myself an Xbox 2 in a zillion years time for Perfect Dark Zero and Banjo-Kazooie 3.

Rare was only really good in FPS and most of their games were heavily based off Nintendo games.  I don't really miss them since in FPS I can count on Retro for that and all their other games well obviously we still have Nintedo and they are doing better than on the N64.

well i miss rare...a good portion of my n64 games were rare..but at the same time i think the future is pretty grand and im not oging to dwell on the past. I really liked dkr..but it was a mario kart clone after all..then i loved goldeneye...which still stands the test of time, banjo does as well, dk64 was fun and goofy..but not their best stuff, banjo tooie had some terrible framerate issues, perfect dark did as well but was still awesome..but i can't play it nowadays without gettign a headache..i have a real problem with framerates now, conker was awesome.......kameo looked great..but when it shifted consoles it looked alot different from what i can tell. The original build i saw had some fluid graphics and some cool monster shapshifiting fighting gameplay..then it changed into a weird fairy game....grabbed by the ghoulies looks fun..but i havnt played it..conker box looks cool...but i dont think it will be terribly different ...but its still gona take forever because rare is a damn slow company. Also starfox wasnt that great..well i would say technically it was well made..but it lacked the right cohesiveness and fun....I think Rare will have soem good stuff next gen..hopefulyl ms will pull the plug on xbox 2 when it gets decimated by the competition and starts releasing games for otehr systems.

Do I miss Rare? No. They aren't the same company who made those classics *Battletoads love goes here* not by a long shot.

I'm looking forward to Conker and Kameo on the Xbox.
You mean Conker's "I Can't Believe It Takes THAT LONG to Release a Port like This" Xbox foray? Nah, its just the same game with online play. Pass.
As for Kameo, I never got into the whole "tranforming" premise of it! Woah, that's one hot animal chick dude, NOT! BUPBOW!

I really hope Kameo isn't delayed to Xbox 2, because Mario's just gonna cry his eyes out

(My only next-gen console right now is a GameCube.)  My plan since the Rare purchase was announced has always been this: wait until Rare releases a good game and buy an XBox at that point.  The XBox has already gone from $300 to $200 to $180.  I'll probably only be $100 by the time there's a good game (from Rare).   Grabbed By The Goullies wasn't the good game from Rare I've been waiting for.  I already own Conker's Bad Fur Day for the N64; I won't pay for it again.  Kameo seemed initially interesting, but the XBox version has changed for the worse in my mind (final judgement is reserved for when the game actually comes out).  I'll have to wait patiently and see if Rare will ever make another good game.

It is good to see how a company as high profile as Rare actually works from the inside. Also, it's nice to see a fansite such as Rare-Extreme get such a scoop as to actually knowing and get to unofficially announce one of Rare's secret titles!

Kameo wasn't that interesting for me. The only thing i ever did for it was the token cheer of 'yay! another game from Rare!' then I would sit back down and play Mario.
Kameo looks different now then it did on the GC. I for one think it's MS trying to sex-up the Kameo herself. Make her look more bad-ass but at the same time make her boobs and thighs bigger, whilst also making her outfit show a bit more skin.

GOod work, MS.

I do miss Rare. I however didn't 'grow up' with their old games like Battletoads or RC Pro Am, or even Donkey Kong Country on SNES. I was heavily into their N64 games. Banjo Kazooie and Tooie were absolutely mind-blowing; DKR was fun; and Jet Force Gemini, while hard, was absolutely kick ass. GOldeneye and Perfect Dark are a bit of a mixed bag for me. They're cool and all, but games where you have to keep going back and completing the levels in insanely difficult conditions just doesn't do it for me, hence I don't like Rogue Leader/Squadron and Battle for Naboo as much as I'd like to (but I own them nonetheless), and hence why I like Metroid Prime more - it is a Zelda FPS.
Conker was fun, but very short.

Of course, having played the GC, I just can't get back into these games like I once did.

Star Fox Adventures was.....meh-cool. Anything where they tried to be funny was just groan-inducing (the sexy, sleazy saxaphone when he sees Krystal.....in a Sci-Fi Adventure??), and the overworld was pretty much a messy maze.
Oh well, it was ok, but there were too many 'bold and the beautiful' style cliches that no one really likes to see in games that try to be totally epic. The original design of Dinosaur Planet looked brilliant.

The Xbox version of Conker is just revamped graphics, online play, and just to 'prove' that they've shed their Nintendo heritage, they've made it uncut. Full swearing. Wow. Such adult game-play.

did anyone ever play the multiplayer games of conker's bad fur day?  i beat the single player game, but i never touched any of the multiplayer modes.  this was back when my friends and i were hopelessly addicted to super smash bros, so we rarely (read: never) played anything else when we got together.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

the only rare games i';ve played and enjoyed in multiplayer are Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Tooie. Conker's multiplayer sucked balls. Jet Force Gemini was also a blaspehmous attempt.

Not really no. But then I didn't play it to it's full extent, since I don't play anything I don't like.

Yeah the ulti in CBFD was really tacky. I wished they spent that time adding another 5 hours to the day. It wasn't totally wasted. I did have some fun with friends in multi in Beach and Bank mode. Good laugh every time people get into a 4-way baseball bat brawl. Not to mention that toilet in one of the levels....

With PD I was too busy with max players playing night of the living dead with humans armed with shotguns and fists sims on meat to easy since any higher they steal your gun. After that your mince meat. Funny as hell watching a fellow player get pasted but 8 guys. Hehe, good times... Playing drugs mode is fun.

Pffh. Toilet paper? What do you think cats are for?
