The best way to get into the industry:
For designers, start writing design documents. Split them into three parts, roughy: Concept (a few paragraphs outlining the very basics of the game and it's platform, audience etc.); Why people would want to play the game (and why it keep them interested); and a script (which is what the game
is, more specific details about mechanics, levels, storylines, etc.). Then maybe post them on the net and get a few people to help you (
Sourceforge is a good start) or if you're feeling confident, send them to a publisher.
If you are a modeller, make sure you show your potential employer your work with a low polygon count as well as your most detailed renders.
Programmers, composers, sound technitions, and artists can just apply with a portfolio for a job at a studio as with any other job. And as with any other job, the your most valuable asset wil be whatever previous experience you have; working on non-commercial projects before trying to enter the industry will be a great help to you.
