Does Anyone think...
« on: February 11, 2004, 05:26:39 AM »
that Nintendo should ports its NES and Super Nintendo games for the Nintendo Gamecube?  Similiar to the Sega Smash pack of the Dreamcast and PC.  Even Sega could put out one for the Gamecube.  How would the original Phantasy Star, Shining Force I and II, Golden Axe etc sound on Gamecube?

it's not exactly an original idea.  plus, i think the nes and snes ports are best left to the gba.  in fact, phantasy star collection is already available on the gba, and i believe shining force is, too.  plus, none of the games you mentioned are made by nintendo, or even appeared on a nintendo console (prior to the ports for the gba, which i previously mentioned).
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

It's a good idea, to an extent. A lot of people already complain that Nintendo doesn't use anything new. For them to just pack up a lot of games into one CD would just be a media tarket for Sony and MS. It would be considered a money maker, not a game set. Kingvudu was right about the GBA though, a lot of older SNES and NES have came out for the GBA, so why have that for the gamecube. I guess if you really want that though, you get a GBA Player for your GC and play those games from there on. Animal Crossing also had NES games you could play. If Sega were to that now, I think it would come out on all systems and not just GC either.

I'm all for having collections of older arcade and console games come out for the newer systems.  I don't really want to have 15 consoles stashed away somewhere (or a bazillion emulators that may or may not work) so that I can get a bit of classic gaming goodness.  I love things like the Activision Anthology, or Sonic Mega Collection.  As for what system they should come out for (GC or GBA), I really don't care.  With my GBP, I pretty much consider them one and the same.

I get confused with all these ports.  Like what classic Zelda game is in the pre-order disc, or what Mario games have already been ported to the GBA as these titles that confuse me even more, why this game in the series and not the others, or why they chose to do the rest of them now and not back then, etc

Since the GCN is using a disc I think Nintendo should have taken every NES, SNes, and soon to be N64 hit and put it all into one.

Or they can create an add-on that plays NES, SNes, and N64 games.

it seems alittle too early for that...give it a year or two...when gamecube is singing its last swan song...then it should happen...nows too soon, itll only promote early cube death...

I think they are saving all of the ports for their upcoming "plug and play" system.  Kind of like what Namco is doing with it's arcade classics.  Possibly this rumored "plug and play" will be similar to the Nintendo I-Que?

This is just speculation on my part.  However, this would be a great way for Nintendo to capitalize on it's massive library of classic titles.  Plus it would give budget gamers a cheap alternative to the mainstream consoles.

No ...too much trouble wih the xopy rights etc...it would be very difficult for Nintendo to maintain the rights for a port of a third party game.

Does anyone know about Rare?  I hear they are making games for the gba, are they coming back to GCN too?  One the release dates section one Rare game has gone from cancelled to unknown.  I'm hoping they'll bring back Conker 2 and Perfect Dark Zero

why would nintendo have a problem porting their own games to their own system?  anything published on a Nintendo system by a publisher other than Nintendo would belong to that publisher.

Personally, I hope for games like the upcoming Megaman Collection are headed our way.  I would kill for a port of the Capcom AD&D arcade games.

When it can charge $30 a pop for them on GBA?  I think not.
