GCN SHORTAGE??????
« on: February 08, 2004, 02:58:28 PM »
hi everyone:

I was looking to buy a GC and in every store I went they said to me "we're out of stock". I really mean every store: EB games, Target, Circuit City, Best Buy, Toys R Us, FYE. I'm from Miami and it seems this zone is without a single GC to buy. How about others cities?
I don't understand because the online stores of those I mentioned have their stock of GC.

Yeah it appears that GCNs have been hard to find since the end of December, in the US. I think Nintendo under-estimated the demand for them, and didn't quite ship enough for the holiday season. Hopefully they fix this problem soon..

No, it's a bad thing, because Nintendo could be losing potential customers, if someone went to the store to get a GCN, but the store didn't have any GCNs left, then there is a chance that they could just buy a PS2 or Xbox instead, or just not buy anything but lose interest in GCN.

I know when people hear that "GameCube is sold out", it sounds like it's in high demand, but really, i don't think that is so effective anymore.

You need to get more damn GCNs in stores Nintendo. *shakes fist*

It's good because it means lots of people are buying Gamecubes. It's bad because it means no more people can buy Gamecubes.

Are we all happy now?

No.

Lots of stores sold out of GameCubes in December, so that means through the end of December, the whole of January, and February (so far), those stores haven't sold a single GCN. I bet GCN hardware sales behind Xbox in the January NPD sales, for this reason.

But then again, i don't know if Nintendo has shipped more GCNs to stores or not, or.. whatever..

Maybe Nintendo did ship more Gamecubes and stores sold out of them, too.

Yeah there is definately truth to the shortage thing.  My Circuit City is out of both cubes and x-boxes.  Yesterday night we had a really young kid come in with 120 bucks saying his mom called and reserved him a cube.  He was like 10 freaking years old.  Well some shmuch said they would reserve it and then never pulled it off the shelf so it sold.  My manager felt so bad for the kid he was gonna special order him one and give it to him for free.  The worst part though is the kid was so frightened, he just ran out of the store never to be seen again.  Kind of weird...

Ive never gone somewhere near me and not found one, but I live in a smaller populated area.  If you live in a large city, Id say try calling the stores in some of the smaller towns that are farther out from you or something.  Also try looking in stores people dont normally think of for buying gaming stuff.  The Sears near me always has systems in stock.  Even on launch day.  No one seems to think to go there, I guess.  My friend walked into Sears on the day they launched and walked out with a PS2.  He kicked himself for not buying 2 and selling the other one for a nice little profit.

How many people would actually decide to buy a Cube but would then buy something else if it wasn't available?  I mean casual gamers can be pretty dumb but I figure that if you decided ahead of time to buy a Cube you wouldn't settle for something else.  Of course I actually do research before making major purchases and don't settle for stuff I don't want so maybe I'm just falsely assuming that other people have as much common sense as I do.  The problem I can see is someone going in with the idea of just buying a console period and having no idea ahead of time of which one to buy.  Naturally with no Cubes available in the store they're not going to purchase one.  But let's face it those types of customers never buy a Cube anyway since the salesman will always push them in the direction of the Xbox or PS2.  I'm just happy that these people aren't buying a console that's sold out instead of blatantly ignoring it.

Yeah i work at a Sam Goody music shop and we havent had any since christmas, we havent gotten any new shipments at all.  I have had a few customers ask me for one and i told them we were out and they replied "I can't find them anywhere!".  This is totally a negative situation for Nintendo.  I hope they fix this soon because FFCC just came out and Pokemon Collesseum is coming too.
