I think he's using Young Link and Cel-shaded Link interchangeably.

I am sort of blending Young Link and Wind Waker Link together because they are both similar character yes.

I do remember that you get Bomb-Chus in OoT to use as Link and Young Link...I think in the sand dungeon you have to use a Bomb-Chu as young link to solve a puzzle.

However, I thought I remembered using Bomb-Chus in Wind Waker.  Like it was the second or last dungeon...I once again could be wrong, but for some reason I remember Cell-Shaded Bomb-chus, could someone help me out with my memory?

I have been trying to think of other characters to create.  Ridley seems to be a fan favorite for Metroid fans but I just can't see how Ridley would work and create the right scale.  I think it would be cool to have more villians for the more popular series.

If they added Pitt from Kid Ikaris (sp) then you could create a very cool Eggplant Wizard character.

As well Lil Mac could be a potential character.  I would love to create him with all his special attacks being powerful Smash Attack Punchs, and he doesn't kick at all.
His level in adventure mode would be cool too because you could just have a First Person Perspective boxing match with 3 other Smash Brothers Characters...that would rock.

1) Bombchus weren't in WW (you scared me for a second there, though...I was like "I GOT EVERYTHING WHERE IS BOMBCHU!" ^_^)

(Maybe you are thinking of the rats? ^_~)

2) I STILL think Ridley is way too big...And scaling him down would be stupid...

3) Little Mac would definitely work though...Just give him powerful close-range attacks to make up for lacking long-range ones...

Bill:  Sorry about that.

Well, there SHOULD have been Bomb-Chus in Wind Waker.  That was one of the most original and cool new ideas created in a Zelda game...and then they barely used them in OoT.

If you ask me, the one thing I worry about the new Zelda games is coming up with new original items.  With Wind Waker it was easier in the cartoon world.  The Leaf seemed to fit perfect and it added more to the game then you can imagine.  Same with the Rope Grapple.  Using it in combat to grab items from enemies was a blast.

Looking towards the new realistic Zelda I am worried about potential new items.  I don't want more and more sword upgrades or new types of swords.  I want weapons that feel unique and actually change the gameplay.  Wind Waker and OoT really perfected the 3D Zelda game, so I am worried about original items and content.

One thing that does make me feel better is Nintendo blending the old Top-Down pespective into the 3D game.  This could change the game drastically and give it that classic feel.

Oh and about Super Smash Brothers Melee...I am hoping more for an wireless DS version right now than a revolution version.  I think with multiple screens the game can advance to a deeper battle system, and include larger levels.  (Allowing for more player to fight against eachother.)

Bill: And Olimar would be too small by that logic. Just ignore it. Hell, look at Bowser's size in SM64 or Sunshine, he's huge as well. Scale Ridley down a bit, have him still be pretty large (Bowser's size) but lightweight to make up for his speed and air-based attacks. Nintendo never cared about scale, they resize their characters as they see fit.

Size of the characters shouldn't be an issue. Just look how freaking huge Pikachu is in SSB:M. Also, if Nintendo wanted to use Geno I'm sure they could. He was in Mario & Luigi...

Like with the characters you guys have mentioned,  I think it'd be a good idea if they expanded on some of the franchises that are already represented. It'd give it a bit more balance. Example: there's six Mario characters but only one from Kirby. Throw in Meta Knight and/or King Dedede. While you're at it, toss in:

Ridley
Kraid
Poo/Paula/Jeff
Diddy/Dixie
Samurai Goroh, etc.

Also, someone mentioned not adding generic enemies. I agree that they shouldn't be included individually, but how about in teams? Think Ice Climbers but with a Goomba, Para Koopa, and a Hammer Bro. I think that'd be awesome.

As for franchises/games to be added to the mix:

Kid Icarus
Custom Robo
Pikmin
Punch Out

and maybe get a bit obscure with:

Balloon Fight
Urban Champion
Hogan's Alley
Duck Hunt (dog and duck combo would rock)

And if Nintendo really wanted to throw in some third party characters into the mix, I'm sure they could arrange it. Nintendo characters are popping up everywhere else, why not the other way around? Of course, the third party characters should be very hidden and their count kept to a minimum:

Sonic
MegaManEXE (though I'd prefer classic MM)
Pac-Man (he's in Mario Kart arcade...)
Bomberman

But in all fairness, I'd be content with a new SSB game even if they added 0 new characters. SSB:M is easily my most-played GC game.

mr. segali has a good idea..what if this character played differently and it let you switch between chars in a sort of paper mario lie way...

and on the note of link costumes.....

why not have more then just color changes(have em...please).,..but actually total make overs.....
i want ocarina link as a costume, old school alttp art style, Zelda 2 art style, Ocarina of time art style

and for young link have link as majora's mask link and wind waker link as an alternate costume... and maybe a more elven 8-bit style one too.

I would support I Custom Robo character, that morphed into different forms.  Its like Zelda/Shiek, but with 3-4 different forms, and you switch between them randomly.  Each form has drastically different moves, somethign Zelda and Shiek did not have.

Wire Frame Guy would be cool too.  It could be an unlocked secret character, and literally it has every special move in the game, but you don't know which it will do because it is random.  Or it rotates which moves that the character uses each round.

You mean like Mokujin or Charade in Tekken and Soul Calibur? Yeah, that'd be the best match for the wireframe.

You just know there are going to be at least a couple new Pokemon...So I vote for Ditto...Your only attack is transform, meaning that you need to copy an enemy...Then when you want to switch you'd just use your taunt, like Kirby...

Isaac, the hero from Golden Sun...Mix of sword attacks and Psynergy (with Djinn)...

Vaati, the Ganon of the Four Sword Saga, with a transform move like Zelda's in order to switch between his human form from Minish Cap to his monster form...

And my personal stage wish list even though it doesn't really fit in this topic...

~Lost Woods (with Skull Kids, Moblins, and more)
~Outset Island (with giant pig that rampages around when struck)
~Atop castle in Wind Waker final battle
~Hyrule Castle (Classic or new)
~Inside/Outside Great Fox (fight inside until someone blown through wall, then outside)
~Starfox/Starwolf battle (jumping between arwings)
~Venus Lighthouse
~Saffron City (Classic or new)
~Big Blue (Return Stage remixed)
~Princess Peach's castle (not only with Bullet Bills, but also goombas and koopas)
~Super Mario 3 (World 1-4, ex. moving platforms)
~Luigi's Mansion (with ghosts)
~Mushroom Kingdom (Return Stage remixed)
~Jolly Roger Bay (Eel level from SM64)
~Fourside (Return Stage remixed)
~Brinstar w/ Ridley
~Dark Aether (with light crystal spheres...you take constant damage if you leave the areas and slowly gain health when you are in them)
~Kraid (Return Stage remixed)
~Pokemon Stadium (Outside)
~Pikmin (Forest-themed stage)

Pyoro would be cool, but I don't think he'll ever escape warioware.  His tounge could be used as a grappling hook, and he could spit seeds.

If Wario was included, would it be platform Wario, or Warioware wario.  Or maybe Warioman.  Either way I have always wanted him in the series, he would meld pretty easily.  It would be fun if he included all his transformation he's gone through, or his hats from his first game.  Wario is such a changing character it would be hard to choose which one of his variations to go with.

King Dedede would be very cool.  He could hover, use his hammer, inhale and spit out enemys, preform his high jump, and maybe even have some of his dark matter stuff.  Meta knight would be extremly cool, after playing Nightmare in Dreamland as him it's easy to see how well he would work in Smash Bros.  He controlled in a similiar fashion.

Bill I really like your stage ideas, especially the Dark Aether one.  I think more moving stages would be great, even though my friends hate them.
It may be simple, but it ain't easy.

Dark Aether and the Starfox/Starwolf battles sound absolutely awesome.  Some of the others seem kinda weak or bland, but most of those are awesome suggestions.  I assume there'd be a swaying effect in the SM64 boat battle?

I also insist that they finally make a Paper Mario stage, preferably one from Paper Mario 2.  Maybe atop Doopliss's tower, with ghosts and him shapeshifting into the playing characters and whatnot.

Though stages that move and what not are great, I liked Final Destination for the sole fact that (without items) it was mono-y-mono. It was the best stage for tournaments since it didn't help anyone and it was completely flat so no one could run or something. Perfect for what I wanted.

Other characters would be nice but if they didn't include Roy; I would probably murder someone/thing/nothing.

I agree wholeheartedly about the Final Destination thing, Don'tHate.  My friends and I played more there than anywhere else.  We usually went bare bones skill when we played this game, especially my one friend and I (the only other person I know that can keep up with me).  We take off all items and fight at Final Destination, because that takes actual skill.  A level like Final Destination definitely needs to be in the next one.

Wow, that sounds exactly like my situation with my friends. There's only one friend that can keep up with me but I almost always win. Usually it's Roy (me) vs. Link (him), but we switch it up everynow and then (I like link and pichu haha; crazy little bugger). I don't really need more charachters. What I really want is more strategy and moves with those characters. The dodge aspect was perfect for the SSB world, and I think there are many other little things that can add greatly to the gameplay. They should add a parry tactic, along with the dodge. You would use dodge for things like dodging Samus's charge up beam or dodging an attack in air. You would use parry when your on the ground right next to someone and they attack you normally (only normally/smash; no specials). The way you would execute it, is by dodging like you would except that you have to time it right (similar to Roy and Marth's down B, where you press it as your being hit, then it will reverse the hit onto the attack; greatest move ever by the way). Same idea, but instead of dealing out damage immediately, the attack would be stunned in a way where he/she couldn't do anything; except parry your attack. Then you can either throw them (which can't be parried) or smash attack them or whatever.

Also the ability to catch things....easily would be nice. I forsee a situation where a teammate is getting whooped, while your handling your business with another enemy. You have the bat, so you deal with your enemy, then throw the bat to your teammate across the map (like Hyrule Castle). They catch it in mid-air, turn and throw the bat at the enemy, or land and use it properly. The way you turn in mid-air should be changed, becuase you cant without doing a special, if I remember correctly. Also, I hate getting hit by those damn bomb-oms.

For throwing people, there should be a smash throw; becuase really, throws aren't that great at all unless there at 170% or something. So you grab the  person then perfrom a smash throw, which should be hard to do so only advanced players can do it. Imagine Mario grabing someone, but instead of just twirling and throwing, he spins really fast using the person to injure other enemies as he moves accross the board (in the direction you tell him to) then he throws the person into oblivion. Samus's up throw should be her slamming the person against the ground with her grappling hook so they bounce up (whatever the damage percentage the person has) the she jumps up and bicycle kicks the person way up into the air. Speaking of samus, she should be able to grab people out of the air with her grappling beam (same with link). Also mid-air throws would be nice.

I think i've said this before but I always thought it would be better if everyone could some how transform. Like young link could transform into Zora link as well as Goron and Deku...each balanced and with there own specials (though I do like the idea of cel-shaded link). Mario could turn into fire Mario (obviously with more powers), or the mario that can turn people to stone, or even paint or metal mario. Samus could do it on a minor level where one of her moves could be switched in and out. She could fire ice, wave, and magma beams; along with each special missle combo. It might get alittle tricky with those characters that have remained the same over their game life. Link could whip out the biggoron sword and maybe even his hover boots. But anyways, this would make for more decked out charachters that are all around the same, which allows for more crazy strategic battles, but also insansely dangerous gameplay, especially coupled with items and level interactivity. It would keep everyone on there toes.

Haha, Pichu.  If ever we're playing a non-serious match and we're short one human player, level one or two Pichu is almost always the computer player When my good friend and I have bob-omb matches (all bob-ombs, very high, in Whispy Woods) we set two Pichus.  Pichu rocks, and is a definite keeper.

I know what you mean with Marth/Roy, but that's take the wind out of their sails, to a degree.  I use Marth, and know how useful it can be, but a large part of the strategy relies on who you pick.  I think if they have something like a parry for everyone it should be extremely hard to execute and happen more by coicidence than anything else.  Like catching items is now.

However, I'm not sure a smash throw should be that hard.  That gives another advantage to senior players, who already have skill.  I think it should certainly be possible for all players, just a little harder to pull off, maybe only 1.5 or 2 times as strong as a normal throw.

That is exactly how my friends are too.  All of them suck, except one who can keep up with me.  Me and him have matches every now and then.  My characters are Jigglypuff or Falco while his are Pikachu or Samus.  Falco dominates all, but hell, Jigglypuff hold's her own.  She can easily defeat Pikachu, but gets beat (not badly, by like one life) by Samus, but Samus gets smuthered by Falco.  There's a balance in our games, and it's fun as hell.

A parry tactic wouldn't really dillute Roy and Marth's reverse moves, because they can do just that; REVERSE moves. No other players can do that, they can simply dodge and retaliate. So Roy and Marth are still at an advantage. As long as Roy and Marth can reverse let's say Gannon's super punch of death, then there is no problem letting other players have a similar tactic. Also you can parry after your attack has been parried, unlike where Roy immediately deals damage.

Bill:  You got a great list of levels.

What I would like to see is about 5 generic level designs.  These would be just simple levels that can played without much gimmick to the game.  I think a great theme for these levels would be giant toy level.  What I mean is, since the story seems to be playing with your toys (capturing a child's imgination) lets run with it.

Have the generic levels be outside in a backyard.  On a Kitchen Table.  Setup around a Lego base, and a few more as such.

Then the game themed levels I want a cool gimmick for all the levels.  Like your Athers example.  It makes the level play differently.

I would love a Mario Level that you can warp using pipes.  Even set up combos where you can Smash attack someone up or down a pipe and warp them away from you.

How about another level which tears in reality are affecting the play.  These levels random tears appear and you can jump into these warp tears to get away or knock people into them...where you pop out nobody knows.

I am still saddened by the fact that the warp pipes were taken out from the Mushroom Kingdom stage... ;_;  They should bring them back for sure...

This could work for a Yoshi's Story or Paper Mario level, in which the background rips...That would make the most sense and we'd get another fun little level to boot!

Bill.  That is great.  The tearing idea with Paper Mario would totally work.  The animation for that could be very cool.  Sliding through the paper, and seeing you pop through the level somewhere else.

You could even have the tears last the entire round.  The more holes in the level the more likely you will knock someone out or be able to escape attack.

I also wouldn't mind a level that has foreground objects to hide what you are doing.  Nothing extreme, but say in the backyard level or a Pikmin level have blades of grass that hide some of he action.

Last if they could design special rules for top-down perspective play, it would be cool to do an oldskool throwback to some top-down games.  You can have an old school Zelda level, and a level based on Earthbound as well top down.
