Well, Lloyd's my favorite too, only someone already took him.

You're just too slow ^_~

Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention that Kratos isn't my greatest favorite, like the other three, but I do like him and think he would kick butt in the game.

BTW, with ToS not being exclusive the pointof including ToS characters would be less than zero.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of having Captain Olimar playable. Down-B would pull out a pikmin you could throw or use as a weapon, and regular B would blow his whistle, and do some sort of damage.  Of course, that's just me.

First, on a joking note, how about Mike Tyson?

Seriously (mostly), how about good ol' Kevin from Northridge... Also known as Captain N: The Game Master.  He could have a "Zapper", "Run" and "Jump" powers, some kind of "Pause" feature worked in there (that pauses the background/enviroment only, not the other players...) and a "Duke call"...  If you want a game that has all the Nintendo Mascots in it, you *must* have Captain N.  He was the best Nintendo mascot ever.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

First and foremost: More Kirby characters.  Meta Knight and King Dedede would be awesome.  I mean, Christ, HAL makes both games.

Also important: It'd be nice to see updated version of the characters.  Vacuum Luigi, a new Samus with the updated Gamecube possibilities, maybe a waterpack Mario, maybe a cel-shaded Link (instead of young Link), those additions would be nice.  Maybe even new Fire Emblem characters.

I think generic enemies should stay out, including things like goombas, koopas, stalfos, space pirates, etc.  Heroes and bosses only.

ThePerm, that is a wonderfully awesome idea for a stage.  Wow.  You should freaking mail that to Nintendo, cuz that would rock.

I thought an evil villains Smash Bros. would be cool, but releasing more villains on the regular game would work, too.

Captain Olimar using Pikmin is a definite character.  Be hard to think of moves, but it has promise.

Edit: Oh, Shadow Mario could be cool, too.  Maybe, combining another person's idea, have a transform between Baby Bowser and Shadow Mario, like Shiek/Zelda.

When I look at characters I want to add to SSB, I don't just look at characters that would be cool to play, but characters that would have original and different play mechanics...someone truly different.

The numbers become far fewer when you think on those terms.

Here is an idea or two.

Olimar:  Ok.  Olimar has very little to no attacks on his own.  However, his space suit allows him to soak up damage.  When you do your down special attack you pull Pikmin out that fight with you.  Now when you punch Pikmin jump out to give you further strength and further range.

Forward B gives you a toss move like Yoshi with the Pikmin.  Different Pikmin effect players differently.  Red-attach and do damage until shaken off and killed.  The more you attach to them the higher % damage is taken off and faster.  Other Pikmin can slow opponents down.  Make their attacks weaker, or even disable special attacks.

Up B could give him a jet pack boost jump that could be cool.  Pikmin on screen could do other cool things like throw them at an item and they will bring it to Olimar and such.

there are plenty of new characters they could tack onto the next smash bros but i think what needs to happen is the gameplay needs to evolve from something the gba could do with the revolution.

Why? Simplicity is beautiful.

And why no generic enemies? We already have Pokemon in there. Why no space pirates (or at least the Omega Pirate) or Metroids?

Pokemon are fine, because you control them in the game and they have some importance or personality.  But there are too many generic enemies, and I don't think it'll be as fun fighting as "Space Pirate" or "Goomba".  Something like Ridley would be great, and I might be willing to accept a Metroid (since it's what the series is named after and it would provide interesting possibilities in battle), but I think the game should stick to the important characters.  It'll thin out if you introduce generics.

I dunno.

I think every character needs to be examined carefully before they add any.  Make sure that character actually adds to the game and isn't just filler.

Another option that isn't that popular, but I would support is this:  If a character is too similar to another character in design consider leaving the old character out and adding the new one.

Characters I would like to see, and I think they can create new gameplay mechanics with.

Vaccuum Luigi.  He would be unique because his Vaccum attacks can drag weapons, items, and characters towards him or away from him.  This Push vaccum attack could be very deadly for those that are trying to jump back to the field and then are pushed away from it.  Since it is not a physical attack they do not get a new jump from the hit.

Olimar.  I mentioned him earlier.  Being not a main attacker himself, he must be used wisely.  He starts out with a number of Pikmin, but he must pick others up to attack successfully.  Olimar has the ability to completely control the board with his Pikmin, but he is a sitting duck.

Bowser REDESIGN.  Take his triple jump away, give him more devistating attacks, and make him a mountain to try to move.  I am talking 200% damage before you can really start attempting Smash Attacks.  I want him to be also have a few faster attacks to make him more viable, and last an ability to point that fire breath up, down, left, right at opponents.

Balloon Fighter:  Here is an idea...a character that doesn't jump at all.  He just constantly floats.  He would have to be redesigned in with a rotational harness, but the idea is press up and you float for however long you want.  The catch?  Pop his three balloons and his is land bound with no jump until he creates new balloons.  However many balloons he has determines how high he can float.

I really can't think of any other characters right now...but you can see I want new characters that bring completely new concepts to the game, not just additions for now reason to be added.

Vacuum Luigi is kind of pointless, as I'd rather Ninty stray away from character clones...Instead, Luigi should be given a move(or moves) that involve his vacuum...

And for Bowser Redesign they can just make GigaBowser playable! (without cheating)

Ridley would add a lot. Give him a down+b downward grab-swipe (dives, grabs enemy on contact and throws them around), a standard b fire breath, forward+b tail slash (long, throws enemies off but little momentum/damage) and up+b an upward swipe. Meta Ridley would have a charge beam instead of the fire breath and would launch his bombs with down+b.

Bill:  I was hoping for Vaccuum Luigi in place of the regular Luigi.  I don't like the clone ideas either.  Though, if you want to have him look like normal luigi and then just use his vaccum in one or two moves that is fine, but then he will be having the Vaccum pop in and out of play which may be bizzare.

And you're saying that the entire concept of Super Smash Brothers *isn't* bizarre?

You have to wonder just from where Link pulls his bombs, Mario his cape, and Peach, Toad, so Luigi pulling out a vacuum cleaner isn't *that* out-there... ^_^

Bill that is true.  You know I wished they would have modeled Mario with his cape though, that would have been cool and very retro throwback for us fans.

It just accord to me several Nintendo franchises wouldn't work for playable characters, but they would work great for hidden levels.

Pikmin could have a great level with Pikmin able to be plucked and used as weapons, and Pikmin enemies such as the bird heads that pop out of the ground are there to attack you.

Stunt Racer FX, this retro level would be a great scrolling level in the vain of the Pokemon Float, and the F-Zero.

Luigi's Mansion could even be a great designed level.

I really liked what Nintendo did this generation bringing memorable scenes from different games and blending them into others.  It made a more complete world.  Luigi's Mansion level in Mario Kart was awesome.

More moving stages is definitely a plus...

Adding to the "Death to Clones" argument, all clones from Melee must be
1) Change of costume of regular character (Dr. Mario)
or
2) Given completely new moves (Ganondorf, etc)
or
3) Given a new makeover

The particular example I was thinking of for number 3 was Link and Young Link...Young Link should be turned into Wind Waker Link, and Link should be turned into Zelda XII Link...Give them some different moves (such as WW Link having the grappling hook and leaf) and they won't seem so much like clones anymore...

Bill:

I would love a Cell Shaded Link that represented a more light-hearted Link.  give him different powers.

I am thinking more powerful special attacks, but make him weaker as fighter.

Special moves could be.

Down Special- BombChus.  These bombs can be used to roll after characters and climb walls.  3 second fuse on them.

Fire Arrow-Let young Link keep the Fire Arrow Upgrades they are pretty cool.

Up Arrow-Leaf.  This could be used to float back to safety.  You can activate it almost instantly after a smash attack has been delivered to give you a floating chance back.  Or use it on the ground to Push people away from you, and return projectiles at people.

Foward Special could be a parry move like in WW.
__________________________________________________________________________

Older Link would have all the traditional moves he had before.  Classic Bombs, Classic Up-Special, Perhaps Instead of the Bow-Arrow give him just his Boomerang, and let it stun people.  Then give his Forward Special attack be a nice Sword Combo.

I like the idea of having the two graphically different link go up against eachother.  That would rock.

Bill Great idea.  That would seperate Young Link from Adult Link, but still give both Links a Spin attack.  Young Links spin attack can't give him a 3rd jump, but it can be used for crazy combos.

I could see dropping a Bomb-Chu and charging up the Hurricane Spin, They either jump over one and get hit by the other, or potentially take both.

Dr Mario SHOULD remain exactly the same for he is the greatest character in SSBM..Mybe Mario can adopt some Mario Sunshine moves...eg.

B. Shoot water out of FLUDD while standing.

Across B. Using the Turbo nozzle to do a charge attack similar to foxes/falcos.

Up B. Maybe using the hover nozzle or the rocket nozzle as a second jump.

Down B. Maybe using the spin attack that he has but like in sunshine with the spin jump he can fire water in all directions.

Cell Shaded Link gets Bomb-Chus close to the very end of the game.

I thought to give him Bomb-Chus, because it would give him a very different ranged attack from Adult Link.  The idea with Cell Shaded Link is to give him more powerful special moves, but counter that with weaker regular attack.

Adult Link gets much stronger regular moves, but weaker special moves.  Its kind of a Yin-Yang type approach to the characters.

1)I wouldn't mind giving Young Link the Bow and Arrow, Adult Link the Boomerang (with Stun ability)
2)Adult Link. Jumping Spin attack, Young Link Grounded Spin Attack, charge to Hurricane Spin Attack.
3)Young Link: Magic Leaf for floating, and for push opponents.  New move for Adult Link  -->Special.
4)Adult Link:  Down B standard Bomb.  Young Link: New Bomb-Chus.
