did anyone else read the review gamespy has on its site?  it the reviewer touched (very briefly) on every single aspect of the game that ign didn't.  just how briefly, you ask?

basically two sentences that were thrown in almost as an after-thought.  perhaps gamespy is attempting to avoid the wrath of penny arcade?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Well, the GSI and IGN reviews contradicted each other on the point of difficulty and GSI claims that different experience levels are really bad, unlike what some said on PGC...

I've been playing the game with friends for the past two days (13 hours in) and I can comment on the difficulty.

At first the game is tough. It takes a good while to get used to quickly switching to the GBA for menus and also how to quickly use the menus. Once you get that down it gets easier.  Also, the difficulty is highly dependant on how many people are playing because it does not scale with the number of players. It'll be harder for two people than it will be for four. I've been playing with three other friends and we've gotten really quite good at it. One guy is healing almost all the time to keep everybody going, one of us is a tank that just rails away at enemies, and the other two of us are balanced. Sometimes the game gets hard when it throws 5+ baddies at you. The bosses for the most aprt aren't that bad with four people. However, one boss was super hard, though we did eventually get him.

I can see how brining somebody with low "experience" (ie - somebody who doesn't have a lot of artifacts to boost their stats, which is this game's equlivent of leveling) would easily get wrecked. However, you could balance it out if everybody else chipped in and bought the new guy some new armor and weapons.

a lil' tips for singleplayer

When you start your game you should make all eight characters(even if you wont
play as them) right away.  This way you can get the benefits of all the
different family trades with your main character.

Here's another tip for single/multiplayer:

Certain Myhr tree cutscenes after bosses present a nice view of the female Selkie's unique qualities as she carries the sparkly bucket, provided that Player 1 is a female Selkie.

My friend just got the game and I'm really enjoying it. Two things: 1. The instruction booklet doesn't have enough info in it   (how do things work? Find out on your own). 2. How do you get mog (in single player) to help you out, besides lugging the chalice around?

"The instruction booklet doesn't have enough info in it (how do things work? Find out on your own)."

I noticed that too.  It doesn't even tell you who the different races are.  When starting the game my brother and I wanted to set up 8 characters with the idea being that we would switch between dungeons to balance things out.  However after selecting the first characters it goes to this little cutscene.  We thought we would have to play the first dungeon with the characters we selected and we both initially chose the same race so we reset and started again.  Turns out that the little cutscene doesn't do anything and you can go back and set up new characters before you start the first dungeon.  That should have been described more in the manual since it confused the hell out of us.

I also don't get how the letters work.  It asks me to select "I'm fine" or "Thank You".  What the hell do these mean?  Why doesn't it describe it in the manual?

Anybody else stuck?  I'm stuck in the 2nd year in single player.  I only need one more myrrh droplet and the last place i can get it from is this @%@#$ Manor.  It is like a guys home and he the begining cutscene is him yelling at his chefs to get cooking.  I cant find the tree or anything though.  I'm totally stuck.

By the way how far am i and how long can i stay on the road before its too late for my tribe dies?

Clear and exit every room of the Manor.  Be sure to visit the rooms that AREN'T next to the courtyard, since they're shaded and very close besides the original entrance.

after playing a 10 hour marathon of the game last night with 2 friends..
Me = Lilty ( decided on high attack.. and i love polearms..)
friend 1 = selki
friend 2 = yuke

the game is absurdly fun.  the competitiveness of the bonuses is a MAJOR help, as is being able to go through levels again to get more artifacts to get stronger.  were on year 4.. right now i think... we accidently have gone through many years just trying to get stronger and get items to get better weapons and whatnot.  stat wise all of our chars are quite different, because were very good at letting one person get the stats they need at the end of a level, and then if theres an extra slot/heart, we just go through the same level again.
the levels are really fun, and so is trying to pull of some combo spells, accidently doing thigns like firaga+1 is *REALLY* cool, the effects of gravity/gravira on flying enemies is essential, and of course, trying to get things such as HASTE to work makes it very teamplay oriented.

anyway awesome game, i can't wait to play it more tonight.

I just got the game a couple of days ago.
Dude, this game is weiiiiiird.
Is it just me or does anyone else think it's weird to play only one character at the time? (I mean in single player mode)
I thought it was possible to have a team (like 4 char).
Why would you create other characters then??
I'm so confused!!

Well if you're in one-player mode having a full team of every race will allow you the advantage of ALL the different families helping you out, making you armour etc...

I actually prefer to play only one character at a time. That way I can identify with him/her a lot more and get more involved into micromanagement. One of the reasons I didn't play Baldur's Gate II farther than the first chapter was that you had so many characters and all of them required micromanagement.
