Topic: Horrible Audio Problems! Help!

I'm having some audio problems with my Cube, and I'd appreciate any constructive advice.

I have my Cube hooked up to my Sony Wega tv, and the tv hooked up to my Pioneer reciever. Whenever I'm playing the Cube, and an explosion happens, my speakers crackle with massive distortion. I doubt it's my speakers or reciever, because when I play a dvd cranked up (with explosions, etc.), or loud music, it NEVER distorts. I've only heard the distortion when playing the Cube, and only on certain games. This upsets me BECAUSE I WANT TO PLAY GAMES WITH LOUD EXPLOSIONS!!!

Does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening? Is it my settings or connection? I've used both super high quality cables, and cheap ones, and they're both about the same-- neither corrects the problem.

Please help before I go crazy!

I've learned to turn down the volume over the years. I just got sick of destroying equipment. I also put the volume at zero when changing a game and turn it back up once the game is running. My gaming room in my current house is very small, which helps since the amp doesn't need to be as cranked. My last game room was 11' x 20' so the volume really got pushed. It always happened to me while playing games like Quake.

Can't see how it can be the Cube itself. It's happened to me on DC, XboX, PSX, PS2, N64 and Cube. It's usually the amp's left and right channels that go. If you put the amp's balance to the extreme left....and then the extreme right......is one louder than the other?

Perhaps the audio output from the 'Cube is loose or damaged? Try jostling it around or replacing it and see if it works better.

Not really, although I do think that the distortion comes only from my front speakers and not my rears. The weird thing is, it distorts at low volumes too! Not all of my games do it, only some that have deep bass-y explosions. And as I said before, none of my 300+ dvds ever made this noise, nor has any of my cds. It's weird, but I think the problem can be somehow corrected.

Other than that, I absolutely LOVE the Cube.

Nah, I don't think that's it. It's in there pretty tight, and when I had changed to different cables, I always made sure each connection was tight.

How are you guys hooking up your systems? Are you hooking the Cube to the tv, then the tv to the recievers tv input, with the reciever obviously on the tv channel? Or is there a more optimal way? I used very expensive Cinemaquest cables for the audio from the tv, but they made little difference.

I used to have this problem when using the RF adapter and the switch to the A/V cables fixed the problem.  But judging by your equipment, I'm guessing you're already using the cables.  I have a Sony Wega and put the cables in Input 2, but any input works.  If nothing works, try getting some new cables or trying a friend's cables to isolate the problem.

I FIXED IT!!!

What I did was I went into my tv's menue and turned off the surround mode. Then I slapped in a game, and NO distortion!

Thanks for all your help, guys. Tonight was the first time I've posted here, but I will post more for sure. I think the Cube is the most kick-ass system out there, and I'll be glad to kick it wih other Cube fanatics. Thanks again.

Weird...I had the same problem not too long ago...I fixed it by switching inputs on my receiver...

Yeah, what I did definitely worked. Apparently, my tv's "surround" feature (that I had no idea was even on because I don't use the tv's speakers) puts alot of effects into the signal chain, so when I saw that it was on, I turned it off. I had a feeling that would do it, and sure enough it did!

did you have your sound set on sterio or sap? Sap is spanish alternate sound...my sap crackles because i dont have a sap tv

No, nothing like that. It was just on the tv's "surround" mode. I just switched it off.
