Hopefully one of those efforts is more of a Canadian Stampede than the New Blood Rising the Switch 1 got.

The Switch 2 is ready for some football. And football. And basketball.

Both EA and 2K's sports divisions made appearances in the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct today to confirm that major sports will be represented on the system. EA recommitted to the EA FC series which has been on Switch since its launch year as FIFA, but will also be bringing the Madden NFL series to the Switch 2 as well. The gridiron series has been absent from Nintendo consoles since 2013 following a disastrous performance for the Wii U Madden launch game.

Not to be outdone, 2K's sports division also announced that the NBA and WWE 2K series would be available on Switch 2. Although NBA has been a Switch staple, there has not been a WWE-licensed game on Switch since a technical tire fire version of WWE 17, and the game has moved from Yukes to an internal Take Two studo.

Wow, to think there hasn't been a Madden on Nintendo for over a decade. Also to think the switch did as well as it did without a Madden!

Watching all these graphical comparisons between Switch 2/PS5/XboxX/PS4pro/XboxS of 3rd party games I am thrilled that the Switch 2 is a comparable power house. Or rather it can keep up well enough to what's available now using it's own unique techniques instead of with brute force.

Madden will look comparable to Sony and Microsoft, that's something that people can be excited about.

Yeah, this is a HUGE jump in hardware power, it honestly feels sort of un-Nintendo in how much power it looks like they packed into this thing. (Of course, there's the unfortunate corollary of the price rising along with that giant leap.) No one knows for sure, but I've seen discussion of the Switch 2 not technically being as powerful as a next-gen XBox Series S, but maybe being able to perform just as well.

I hesitate to say that Nintendo's future-proofed this thing, 2028 could look wildly different, but it certainly feels like Nintendo wants the Switch 2 to have a long life of being relevant hardware.
