What N5 should have!!!!!!
« on: December 12, 2003, 04:46:26 PM »
Now that its only a few months away till Nintendo reveils its new console I'd like to give you all my opinion on what the N5 should be like.

Firstly it would be cool if Nintendo made the N5 compatible with the Gamecube games so already it would have a large library of games.  Making a move like this would be making the same move as what Sony did with the Playstation 2.  But that was the only upside PS2 had on Gamecube.  Secondly Nintendo should make the Gamecube controller compatible with the N5 for you can't improve too much more from the controller point of view.  The only problem Nintendo would be facing is the controllers having Gamecube written on them.  This is of course just a minor thing.

The 3rd and what I reccon the best Idea Nintendo should have for N5 (assuming that it'll still run on disks) is that somewhere on the console it has a port where you can plug in your old Nes, Snes, N64, GB, GB Colour and GBA games.  This would mean the N5 would undeniably be the Ultimate Gaming System with a library of games in the thousands!!!  Now who would say no to that?

This would then prove Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi  point that it's all about the games.

Instead of calling me an idiot perhaps you would like to give your views on what you would like to see on the new Nintendo console.

Here's what Nintendo's next system will most likely have:

A built in harddrive of comparable size to the PS3 and XBox2
A built in DVD/CD player.
A built in internet adapter (both narrow and broadband)
Four controler ports.
Backwards compatability
Media will run standard DVD9 so 3rd party developers will FINALLY SHUT THE HELL UP!

What I'd like it to have:

Built in wireless controlers with access for up to 16
Forget the harddrive
Internet adpater to appease those who want it
Wireless interface with GBA and/or its next incarnation
Backwards compatability
Rewritable media no matter what cheap-ass developers want

But I know that what I want doesn't matter. It's what the market will stand and so far the market won't stand for anything less than total and complete conformity to the standards that Sony and MS have established. If Nintendo doesn't chose to "keep up with the Jones'", so to speak, it will really hurt them this next generation, as sad as I am to say that.

I wish Nintendo had the power to do whatever they wanted to still and push gaming into new and uncharted territory but the market just won't let them anymore. They'll always have the ability to do what they want software wise but as for hardware, they're between a rock and a hard place right now. It's beginning to look like conformity or death in that reguard.

Will have:

Built-in LAN (probably custom WLAN), can be used for Online
modified SD-Cards as writable medium
drive: Either modified DVD or BluRay (likely customized)
Controller ports: Either four or completely wireless (not compatible to GC)
Can interoperate with GBA WLAN module

Nintendo will rather commit suicide than use standard media. They are a games company foremost and are more severely affected by piracy than Microsoft or Sony. Standard media would simplify piracy. I think it would affect N's bottom line a LOT more if their games got pirated than if less people bought their console. They were well capable of living off the GC and GBA, if they sold only a fraction of their games due to piracy I doubt Nintendo would still exist today.

And playing NES, SNES, N64 games, etc. will be plain near impossible...For that, Ninty would have to put an emulator/hardware for every system into the N5...In the end, it would probably be twice the size of the Xbox...

I just want backwards-compatability for the sole reason that I can't hook up more than 6 systems in my room at a time... ^_^''

Hehe, The Register thinks Microsoft might use proprietary disks next time, too.

Last time I checked, Nintendo's President was Satoru Iwata... I could be mistaken, but...

Anyway, the last thing I want to see on the N5 is a DVD/CD player. I happen to already own both of those, so why the f*ck would I want another one. It would just drive up the price.

Dirk, I agree with you totally. Having a DVD player in the N5 is totally unnessesary. I own 3 DVD players already and I do not need another.

Woops sorry my mistake.

Anyway I agree with you, I find it pointless to add a dvd player into the system for I also have one.  When you think about it nearly everyone has a DVD Player now so really it would be pointless to add one into the N5.

Besides I don't think Nintendo would do it.  If they added a DVD Player to the console then they would most likely use DVD CD's which would then create easy piracy.  My logic way of thinking is that you can't play a special medium disk like the 3-inch sized dvd disks that nintendo are using now in a dvd player, so if nintendo desided to continue to use a specially designed disk for the next console and they also wanted it to play dvd's, they would have to have 2 cd trays.  One tray for the games and one tray for the DVD's which would then in my opinion look crap.  That's just my way of thinking.

It will be interesting to see if Microsoft can pull it off with the x-box 2 since they would most likely have it playing dvd's and also using special game disks.
