Hmmm... I wonder which of Internet Explorer vulnerabilities are causing Ruby's problems?  It pretty much goes without saying that he visited the wrong site and got some sort of trojan/virus/spyware installed on his computer.  Pretty sure it wasn't PGC, as nobody else really has those problems.  I know that I don't, but my browser is free of ActiveX and VBScript, which... I am quite happy about.

Firebird blocks the ad from displaying, not loading.  I don't think it's possible for advertisers to know the difference.  Besides, if you REALLY want to see the ads, you can unblock sites, but the default is blocked.

PaleZero, don't know what to tell you.  It sounds like you might have a bug in your profile or something.  Try erasing your profile and starting again from scratch.  Although I have personally never had the problem, I have heard that if you switch versions without clearing your profile, you can have problems.  (I frequently use the nightlies though... and I have not had an appreciable number of bugs)

That's one thing I really love about Firebird now that I've actually started to use it- Opera has a built in pop-up blocker as well, but Firebird's is much more comprehensive, even blocking the full page takeover ads that many a site have nowadays.

I actually like the fact that Firebird isn't trying to sell me anything.    The banner ad in Opera REALLY bothers me.

Really? That ad doesn't bother me in the least- in fact, I hardly even know it's there. Right now it's completely blank. It's not even obstructing anything.

It's freaking huge, and the default icons are just as big.  And Opera just seems WAY too cluttered for my tastes anyway.  I like simplicity above all, and that's where Firebird excels.  It's, small, simple, and fast.

In less than half a minute I have all the icons I don't need completely gone. And seriously, I don't see how that banner is big. Mine still isn't showing anything. As for big icons, praytell your monitor's resolution is set to no less than 1024x768. I wouldn't exactly call Opera cluttered persay, but Firebird definitely has a lot less to get in the way.

All the navigation buttons, advertisements, menus, and different doo-dads in Opera take up over 1/4 of my screen.  Firebird takes up maybe less than 1/8, and is pretty much bare bones.  That's what I am talking about mainly.  

And yes, I run at 1024x768, because my monitor is REALLY small.

I guess it's all a matter of perference- at the very least, both Opera and Firebird are very high quality, highly functional browsers. I'm working on a few of my friends to switch from Explorer- I already convinced one, although he switched to Netscape, but I guess I'll have to take what I can get. A few others are just too lazy, but I think I might have sowed a seed of doubt when I mentioned how much spyware they probably have loaded up on their computers.

Oh yes, I agree 100% that Opera is a fully functional browser, and is quite nice to use.  But it's marketted towards an audience that is just NOT me.  For me, Firebird is the perfect browser.  Netscape is the worst.

He says he likes it, and doesn't have any of the problems he had with Explorer (the main reason he switched was IE basically just fizzled out and wouldn't let him go anywhere), but there are many shortcomings of browsers that aren't altogether apparent.
