GCN out of the Race?
« on: December 07, 2003, 07:50:32 AM »
Here is a comment from John Davison in the 12/5/03 of 1up.com Thinking out loud:

"Hopefully, as we get closer and closer to the holidays, things will start to pick up and we'll look back on this little rant as just me huffing and puffing before it was time. Speaking to game industry execs though, it's clear that these people are a little worried and that they all blame the same thing: It's all due to the rate at which systems are selling. It seems that everyone thought that the boxes would be cheaper by now. Sure, the GameCube is only $99, but they could give it away with boxes of Apple Jacks and it wouldn't help. The Cube is out of the race, and the real action is between the Xbox and the PS2. The (admittedly somewhat obvious) argument goes that if these consoles were priced at $149 (or less) instead of $179, they would be selling like the proverbial hotcakes, and games would be snapped up with them."The Cube is out of the race, and the real action is between the Xbox and the PS2.

So, What is up with that?
"Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream to dream before
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token..."
--Edgar Allen Poe, The Raven, 1845.

To liberals everywhere: HA!

Who is John Davison, and why is he so clueless?

Xbox is #3 in worldwide sales, and it was spanked by GameCube in November (in the US, one of its largest markets). Davison is a schmuck.

AG: Thanks, I didn't understand the first word in the game...

Sorry, but if there ever was a race between XBox and PS2 the former is out for more than a year by now. Neither MS nor N will ever catch up with Sony this generation, however N and MS are close and the balance can shift any time between the two.

I don't know why this idiot claims noone bought the cube, the uptake after the pricedrop was phenomenal.

**** this guy. Of the Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2, the cube is in second place. Xbox is probably done after the next generation due to lack of good games. All those other new consoles, excluding PS3 and N5, will go down the drain. He probably hates Nintendo, or gets paid to say that.

Guess he missed this....

Black Friday was very, very good to Nintendo.

NINTENDO GAMECUBE HITS NO. 1

Combines with Game Boy Advance to Sell More Than 1 Million Systems During Thanksgiving Week

REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 2, 2003 – After rocketing up the charts the past several weeks, the Nintendo GameCube™ has now reached No. 1 – it's America's top-selling home video game console, according to direct sales data from the nation's leading retailers. Nintendo GameCube sold more than half a million systems to consumers during Thanksgiving week, easily surpassing its console competitors. Among all game devices, it trailed only Nintendo's portable Game Boy® Advance, which sold almost 600,000 units to U.S. buyers during the week.

"All along, our business plan for this year was to maximize consumer interest and sales during the fourth quarter," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "But frankly, we're overwhelmed by how successful we've been. Our price cut of Nintendo GameCube has ignited sales to the degree that it may turn out to be the best-selling console for the entire month of November. We're tracking to sell more systems in the last eight weeks of the year than we did in the previous 10 months combined."

Nintendo GameCube went from No. 3 to No. 1 in just two months, evidence that the Sept. 25 price drop to an MSRP of $99.99 and the hot new games were just what the public wanted. The library of games available for Nintendo GameCube now stands at more than 320, including America's current hottest game, Mario Kart®: Double Dash™ exclusively for Nintendo GameCube, role-playing and sports games, Pokémon titles for younger players and action and racing games for adults.

Numerous new and upcoming releases that will keep the momentum going include 1080°®: Avalanche, a shred-'em-up snowboarding game; Mario Party® 5, the ultimate party game; F-Zero® GX, the fastest racing game on the market; Mario Golf™: Toadstool Tour, a golf game that appeals equally to novices and experts; Pokémon Channel™, the first-ever Pokémon game available for Nintendo GameCube; and Final Fantasy®: Crystal Chronicles™, an upcoming role-playing game that continues the hit franchise.

Yea, most of these journalist are morons.  Cube has been outselling X-box for months now, and has even out sold PS2 last week.  Nintendo istn going to sell more Cubes than PS2's this generation, but X-box is the one in trouble.  GameCube is selling fairly well in Japan, way better than X-box.  Before recently, it was neck and neck between Cube and X-box in the US and Europe, but now Cube sales have pulled away in terms of sales.  Not  only that, but Microsoft hasnt made any money from the X-box, and their losses are incredible.  I dont see Sony loseing its spot at the top anytime soon, but nintendo is going to sit comfortably in second.  Investors will only put up with losses for so long, if X-box never comes out of the hole this genration, the odds of releasing a successor will dwindle.

It's every X-Box and PS2 fanboy's dream that Nintendo will appear on their systems, thus make their kiddy games cool again.  That's why all of them predict Nintendo will fail.

they all want Nintendo to fail, then it's gonna be 'OMG Nintendo! Come to our system! We love you and your games so much!' I bet Nintendo will create nuclear weapons before they turn 3rd party and make games for Sony and MS.

Infernal;
THINKING OUT LOUD (with text)
It's the Holiday season, a time when parents go buy their children computer video games for their Sony XCube 2600's. I think Xbox will 'win' because my bank account has gone up by a few thousand dollars by a strange green X. Nintendo has no chance because they have good exclusive games, Sony might come in second place, but I think Xbox will come first second and third. Xbox has a hard drive, parents will buy many units because of this. GameCube is kiddy you know, it's at $99. A sure sign that Nintendo are actually a bunch of kids. Kids are too cool these days for Nintendo. Voodoo Vince will be the best selling game this Christmas. It's rated G for 'GREAT'. And remember, GameCube is out of the race. My words will have a huge impact, you just wait. Stores will go "WHAT? THIS UNKNOWN GUY ON THE INTERNET HAS MADE A NEW FACT? OMFG"
