How can you say Hyrule is gone for good?
« on: December 04, 2003, 07:18:31 PM »
This is something that really bugs the crap out of me. I can't stand that people are so closed minded that they think there's no way Hyrule will be unflooded or whatever and that it has to be the last game in the series. It's like someone asking how Bowser can be in the next Mario game when he was beaten in the last one or how can there be any Metroid in the next Metroid game when they were all killed in the last. We're talking about video games here people and Nintendo games at that. Of course Hyrule will make a return and it was made clear that WW is a sequel specifically to Ocarina so it can't be the last game.

Aonuma has even commented on this whole thing in an interview although in the usual vague Nintendo way. He said something along the lines of, "At the end of Wind Waker it seemed that Hyrule is gone for good but this will be dealt with in Wind Waker 2". Sorry I don't have a link to the interview and it's been a while since I read so that's not an exact quote.

Well I would even argue that N are trying to part with both Zelda and Link, not only Hyrule, if you know what I mean... That's not like a no-mention-in-the-next-game parting, but more like leaving it all as a legend, that puts depth in a new story.

Ugh...Hyrule isn't dead...But it's almost guaranteed that the next game won't take place in Hyrule...

Damn right.  It'll take place in San Francisco, CA.  Kinda like the Crocodile Dundee movie.

I wouldn't be suprised at all if one of the next games in the future takes place in Hyrule.  It's not that most of us think that Hyrule has flooded and that's the end of it, it's just that it's most certainly not going to be the main place in WW2.  Who knows how long from now it will be until we go back to Hyrule.  I would certainly like it though.  I loved Hyrule in OoT.

I think the next game will center around Link and Tetra finding a new land. Wind Waker left off on a bit of a cliff hanger after all and unlike Miyamoto Aonuma is much more concerned about the storyline. Since he has had more control over the series he has made sure each game is a sequel to the last and made it clear how they connect story wise. This will more than likely continue with Wind Waker 2.

Yeah it probably will, Gibdo.  I just hope that this time, it involes NO, and I repeat NO!!!! sailing involved this time. I'm sick of the ocean and bearly any land. Maybe if it had both together evenly, I might like it.  But WW was so frigin tiring having to sail from place to place and always having to change the wind direction. It would be cool with forests, and rivers too. But-alas-I cannot decide what is going to happen in the next game.  Bummer.

I'd like to see Zelda go in a new direction, and it seems likely, since the ended strongly seemed to support that direction.  However, it could matter less to me.  Like you said, it's a game.  With or without Hyrule, Zelda IS Zelda.  It's the style, the gameplay, the fun, and the memories, not the setting of the story.

I'd expect the sailing to continue to be an element in the sequel. This certainly doesn't mean there won't be more land involved. I'd expect a decent dose of both. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of Link's wind powers in this sequel.

For that matter, if he still uses his wind controlling powers, it'll be interesting to see how Nintendo puts them to use. I'm in the mood for more land exploration and more places to explore.

I have a confession to make. The sailing in Wind Waker is all my fault. The top thing on my "What I want in the next Zelda game" list was sailing. Careful what you wish for indeed.

I'm serious about sailing having been on my wish list too. Boy did we get crap loads of it.

Yes there might be more sailing involved, but there probably will be less since king of red lions died Probably not for good or anything, but he'd have to get a new sailboat and everthing. And plus, he'd have the pirate's boat since tetra comes with him. So I don't think there will be as much sailing, if not at all.

I think thats a very good point that you bring up. I hadn't evn thought about that. So if there isn't sailing in the next one but it's a direct sequel to TWW and Link still controls the winds what will his powers be used for? I think a great idea would be to have the whole game based on kite flying! you could be Link and have him fly kites everywhere you have ever played in during a LoZ game. HE could even choose the direction the kite flys in!

Yeah and when Link walks into a field and meets Navi's descendent, he can use the wind to knock that pesky mosquito to the South Pole!

Maybe he'll find his anscestor's Ocarina and wind isnt a theme. Or maybe it'll be like the Oracle games. TIME TRAVEL AGAIN! If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts we'd have Christmas every day!

Hmm...well since your talking about the wind factor in WW2, and how he will be getting around since the King of the Red Lions is gone, and assuming that there will be lots of water again. Link should meet up at somepoint with that guy who flys around in the cloud making tornados and he gives or makes Link a cloud to fly around on. Wouldn't that be cool? Hehehe....

One word: dragons And on topic: come to think of it, we might get to Hyrule one more time, since in the Zelda series there's always been this time-travel thing anyway... but I don't see it driving the main story, the end of WW should be a pretty obvious hint for anyone about it.
