I know there's a lot of Australians on these forums, and I was thinking about his. According to Gamespot, GTA lll was pulled awas from stores by politicians because of its mature content. But now State Labor party member Paul Gibson is trying to ban Gotham Racing 2. He wants to ban it because he thinks speeding sends a wrong message to people that play the game

I'm American, and I get pissed when they try to censor things for the good of "society." You aussies should protest or something

GTA 3 wasn't pulled, it was just altered to not feature character -> hooker interaction, it's still widely available for PC and PS2, so i don't know what they are on about there.

i would protest, but 1) it's on xbawx 2) i can't be bothered 3) it will still come out anyway

this Paul Gibson asscake won't get it passed, it's a racing game -_-

Group X are awesome. Xbawx isn't any form of attack on Microsoft. If PGR2 does get banned here, I will be angry, and I don't even own an Xbox. Racing around Sydney has been done in Wreckin' Crew and Test Drive 5 on PSone, and they didn't get in any crap. The end!

Rob: I haven't heard anything about this. As PIAC said, GTA 3 had to be changed to suit the MA rating it received, because anything outside it is banned.
My guess is, at worst, that the developers will have to put in warnings at the loading screens. Nothing too drastic, enough to keep the politicians happy.

Street driving is a problem here - I live about 15km from the city, almost rural area, and its not uncommon to hear the drag cars go past at night. And with people driving from a younger age (16.5 is the earliest a person can drive alone) it is concerning. So either way, I'm happy. Brilliant game or fewer hoons. Doesn't matter to me...

I haven't heard boo about PGR2 yet. If its as addictive as PGR1, I'll be playing it a bit. *insert long drift here*
But the one gripe that I had is that the game wasn't all that fast. Compared to Burnout at least. But I guess it is a simulation racer and all.

You haven't? I keep seeing XBOX ads plugging PGR2, Amped 2 and Top Spin with specific Australian details or something. You must be under some kind of rock-like location to not hear of them.

I haven't seen it on the shelfs, but I'm not really looking either.

And your avatar need to be fixed, dee kay. The maximum dimensions is 64 by 64 pixels, with a maximum size of 20kB I think. It also needs to be from your webspace (not directly linked to someone else's site, unless you have their permission of course).

Street racing is a problem in general, and games that depict the coolnes of the activity isn't helping either.

BUT.
I find it VERY strange how a racing game can get so much heat cause it encourages (?!) speeding. Erm.....you are racing, you HAVE to go fast! THat's the point. Sydney or no sydney, the fact that you are racing in million-dollar cars should shut the politicans up anyhow.
Another thing I find strange is how True Crime, a game very much in the mould of GTA3, hasn't really got any heat cause of it's real-life location. If there is, I ain't heard none.
DO SHOOTOUTS AT MANN'S CHINESE THEATRE!! RUNDOWN INNOCENT CIVILIANS AT DISNEYLAND!! Frankly, if True Crima hasn't been singled out for SOMETHING, then NOTHING deserves to be.

Man, even Manhunt got released with a MA-15+ rating (same as GTA3/VC) so I wouldn't worry about it.

protesting just for one game is not a very good idea.
You have to ring police and tell them what you are protesting about, when and where. You have to tell them how many people are protesting too, cause if the number is under what the regular size is, then it's not going to be put on, and if you still do, that is illegal

So you can't exactly stop traffic to protest an issue that no one in the greater general public cares about.

If they were going to ban/censor games outright, then there would PROBABLY be a protest.

I'm sure it may be a fun game, but the fact that it encourages you to kill in more violent and increasingly gruesome ways as part of a gameshow presents questions into why Rockstar seems to like making games of this type, and why the gamers of the world would do anything to protect developers from heat from making these types of games.
I would say Rockstar might be going too far in Manhunt - you'd have to be pretty sadistic to play it (which Im sure we all are

). The point of it is why any game is banned/taken off shelves to begin with, and there is a decent enough explanation for Manhunt, but for PGR2 to be banned is just plain odd.

True Crime isn't a problem, because all the brutality presented in the game is actually existant in L.A. Isn't L.A. supposed to be the most dangerous crime city in the world? If the politicians there argued over it, the public would just say that those problems already exist, and its the politician's problem for not fixing it.
