It's funny this showed up now.  When I picked up my copy off SSX3 on tuesday the guy saw i grabbed it for GC and he asked if it was any good.  I told him the system rocked of course.  Then he said he was thinking of getting it, but he has heard some stuff lately.  Most of it was untrue, but he did mention that he heard the RE series would be leaving Nintendo and heading to XBOX after RE4.  Take that how you will

Why should it go to the XBox? Capcom is a japanese developer, in their eyes the XBox is a flop like the Wonderswan and the Neo Geo.
Also, as RE4 is probably a long time away it's pointless to assume they have any exclusivity plans for RE5 yet.

Steel Batallion would not have come out for the Xbox if they viewed it as a flop.

hopefully its that Capcom is bringing outbreak to the GCN and allows people to play online with PS2 players

I'm pretty sure Sony has announced that Outbreak is PS2 exclusive, although those sorts of deals always have timelines associated with them so I guess in theory there is a chance it could end up on GameCube, but I wouldn't count on it.

But if it did, there is no chance that the PS2 and GameCube versions would play online together. Neither Nintendo nor Sony would allow that.

If there was a way, then there would be nothing keeping Capcom from making the two systems able to play against one another...It's Capcom's game, not Ninty's or Sony's...Of course, at the moment there is no way to do that, so who cares?

Maybe the shocking announcement is that they're porting RE2 & 3 to the N-Gage with an MSRP of $1000 each.

If the RE series is no longer exclusive it isn't really that big of a deal.  I think it's been proven that RE isn't the system selling franchise it was a few years ago.  It didn't sell Dreamcasts and it didn't sell Gamecubes.  Like ALL of Capcom's franchises they released too many sequels too close together with too few changes to the formula.  This is like a Capcom pattern.  Mega Man was huge in the 8-bit era and Street Fighter was THE game to play in the 16-bit era yet neither game played a major part in the generations that followed.  Having Resident Evil as an exclusive didn't do much to help the Gamecube anyway so if RE0 and RE4 are ported to other consoles it won't make much of a difference.  Now if RE4 was cancelled on the Cube and moved to another console THAT would suck but as long as that doesn't happen it's not that big of a deal.

Obviously some people care or this thread would have died a while ago. Resident Evil 4 is supposed to be ground breaking in the series, right? I don't think they'll make any major moves until RE4 which I believe will sell better than all the others on the Cube.

By the way, I didn't even think that Capcom had even made a game for the X–Box. I'm still a little puzzled.

steel battalion, dino crisis 3, and capcom vs snk:2eo are three capcom xbox titles just off the top of my head, and i'm sure there's probably more.

personaly, i was rather unimpressed with re0, so i cant say i'm too worried about this announcement whatever it may be. i would think re4 would still end up being exclusive to the gc, but the other titles i could see being ported to the other systems. of course, its all speculation and for all i know capcom may announce re4 as an xbox exclusive.

Yes it's Capcom's game, but before Sony or Nintendo allow ANY game to be published for their platforms it has to abide but certain technical guidelines that they set. If it doesn't meet these guidelines, it will never get published.

It has been stated in many developer interviews that neither of the 3 console manufacturers will allow online titles published for their platform to be playable via another manufacture's network. It is technically possible, but never going to happen.

What I'm getting from your post is that say, Nintendo, wouldn't allow Capcom to let gamers play on Sony's servers...If Capcom had their own servers, then that kind of thing could be avoided.  Of course, that would probably be very expensive...

What I am saying is that I know for a fact that neither Nintendo or Microsoft will give approval to a title that allows online play with players who are playing on another console, no matter who runs the servers that are hosting the games. I am pretty sure the same holds true for Sony, but Sony do allow for PS2 players of FFXI to play with PC players. Whether that is just an exception Sony made for Square though, I do not know.

The answer to the question as to who houses a game's server can be answered by simply looking at the platform the game is running on. If it is on Xbox then the game is online via Xbox Live, and is running on MS's servers. If the game is on any other platform (PS2, GC, PC), then the game is running on the publisher's servers. Simple as that.

That's not completely true.  EA doesn't use Microsoft's servers(due to EA's distaste for XBox Live)

But it doesn't really matter, since online is not something I care about.  Maybe in the future those who do enjoy playing online can play with those with other systems

Neither N nor Sony will force Capcom to sign an agreement against interoperation. Capcom doesn't need to mention both games can work together, they could simply make their servers accept both kinds of connection. Since the servers are out of Sony's and N's reach, Capcom may do with them whatever they like.
Since C has to set up servers anyway, they can just as well make them dual-use to cut down on the number of servers required.
