What do you mean, "uh oh"?  Never mind, I know what you are thinking.

"Capcom is making RE multi-platform," right?

Well that is completely possible...but is it "shocking"?  Let's just wait and see what happens instead of making a mountain out of a molehill

Uhhhh.  Its already multi platform.  RE Outbreak is coming out on PS2 and not on gamecube.

I wonder what it might be and furthermore, if I care. After they decided to release the "remakes" of number 1 and 2 for the exorbitantly overpriced tag of forty dollars, I stopped caring. Seriously, those damn things cost more used than RE0 does new...

How poorly has RE been doing on the Cube? I don't want to jump to conclusions without evidence. If the series has been doing well, I doubt they'd go multiplatform. Maybe we'll be getting DeadAim or some other lightgun game. Or maybe a cel shaded RE... ???

The only thing I could see shocking would be that RE4 is the last game in the series...I mean, they have to end it sometime, right?

"How poorly has RE been doing on the Cube?"

The REmake actually sold WAY above Capcom's expectations. REO didn't meet expectations but it still sold decently. Of course the ports of RE2 and RE3 didn't sell even remotely well but that shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone including Capcom.

Yeah, RE 0 sold about 20 percent lower than expected when it came out (I believe) but that's still decent. Capcom made it sound like it bombed (Which in didn't.)

Capcom kind of shot themselves in the foot when they ORIGINALLY announced the RE 2 and 3 ports as 19.99, then later releasing it as 40(Maybe Nintendo had a hand by not agreeing to slash prices? They do want a profit you know). Its blashemy  I tell you, as I can pick up both games for Dreamcast for much, much less. I'll probably pick those up this weekend as a matter of fact....

As far as the big announcement, I'm willing to bet that it will no longer stay exclusive. Good things can't last forever right? Unless they're releasing the collectors pack stateside, but since it came from Famitsu, that's wishful thinking.

[off topic] Any one know the difference of Dreamcast's Code Veronica vs the upcoming Code Veronica X? That could be another case of hunting it down for the DC for next to nothing.  Thanks in advance [/off topic]

I would be just pleased as punch if it were a port of RE Outbreak. It would be the PERFECT GC lan-party game.

It's probably just Plant 42 in its own racing game or something though

Making Resident Evil GameCube exclusive was a terrible decision by Capcom, and I hope for their sake that the announcement is that they will be porting both RE0 and the remake to PS2. Both of those games deserve to sell much more than they have up to this point, and they aren't going to do so on GameCube.

I saw some US sales figures recently that showed that, up to June 2003, Code Veronica X on PS2 had sold more than both 0 and the remake combined. (Sorry, I don't have the figures handy) Think about that for a second, and then go further and consider that Code Veronica was a port. Considering the popularity and following the franchise had during the PSone days, those figures can be considered as nothing short of abysmal. And it's not like the quality of the product is to blame either.

Capcom would certainly have been subsidised by Nintendo for making the franchise exclusive, but Nintendo would never have given Capcom enough that would make them better off than had they made the games for PS2.

I doub that very much, nolimit- REmake sold near a million copies, if not a bit more. And RE0 sold close to that. I don't recall Code Veronica selling 2 million copies.

And if you want to get into sales, Silicon Knights was pretty stupid to be bought by Nintendo, too, since they could have gotten better sales on the PS2. Same with Retro, and Rare- hell, Nintendo themselves would probably getter better sales on the PS2. What's your point? The PS2's fanbase dwarfs that of the XBox and PS2 combined- ANYTHING would sell better on it.

they sold over 1 million copies a piece world wide.

edit:i am very confused. we like, posted at the same time and said the same thing.....but yea mouse is correct. my previous comment about megaton was just rambling nonesense that should be ignored by all.

also good to note...business isnt about sales....its about profits. so although nintendo might not have the best sales, its the most profitable according to many sources.

YAYYYY speculation, to be honest i dont think that it will be that it is no longer exclusive or anything but that either a special edition dvd or something will come out or that RE4 is the last RE , it has to stop somewhere , i know Final fantasy didnt but thats because the stories arent related top eachother.

Do Nintendo actually own Silicon Knights? It wouldn't surprise me, but I don't remember ever seeing a press release stating as such.

Assuming that is true, I won't argue that Eternal Darkness would have sold much better on PS2 than GameCube, but I don't agree that Silicon Knights were "pretty stupid" to be bought by Nintendo. I would think that most development houses in the world, especially one with an unproven track record like SK has, would have jumped at the opportunity to be bought by Nintendo.

Just some of the advantages of such a buyout for a developer would be:
* Financial security
* The opportunity to work with the best in the business
* The ability to delay your title if it is not ready
* Not have to deal with the pains of multiplatform development

nintendo and silicon knights have mnever discussed how their secodn party arangement deals details are.....however...Denis said it was a PERMANENT
ARANGEMENT. Also...i think silicon knights has laid down the foundation for themselves..they were never recognised till recently.

Perhaps Nintendo has bought the franchise and mikami.

Dennis has always shown lots of love towards Nintendo.  The same ideals Nintendo has, Silicon Knights has as well.  They were meant for eachother.  Now back to the topic.  I think the shocking announcement will be the departure of the series creator, Shinji Mikami!  Not necesarilly from CAPCOM but from RE.  There was a scare before E3 this year.  Remeber the video of him talking about how people thought he was fired.  Only time will tell I guess.
