Potential Rebel Strike issue...
« on: October 20, 2003, 08:13:47 PM »
Hey, quick question. I just got Rebel Strike, and I'm experiencing some occaisonal odd behavior in the in-engine cutscenes. Sometimes, when the game cuts from shot to shot the screen will go black for a second instead of cutting directly. These intervals seem to fluctuate in length, although they're never more than about half a second, if that. Also, the sound is never interupted.

I was just curious to know if anyone else is experiencing this issue, or if it's a potential problem with my system (which has run perfectly until now) or the game disc.

Thanks in advance...

You know, i think Rogue LEader had the same problem.
The cutscenes would blank out at the wrong time, like during some dialogue. It's weird. You really notice it in that cutscene between Lando and General Calrissian in the Battle of Endor when they have to 'engage the star destroyers at point blank range'. play it. you'll see.
I think it's the same problem, so i wouldn;t worry too much.

It could very well be a design flaw. I remember that quirk from Rogue Leader. However, that was a cutscene that ended prematurely. What I'm seeing with Rebel Strike are momentary blackouts in the middle of cutscenes. It seems to happen quite a lot during the planetside opening cutscene for the first mission (Revenge of the Empire or something).

Has anyone else noticed this?

I won't be getting Rebel Strike until this evening (I preordered with GameStop). Once I play it I will let you know if I encounter the same problems.

I should be getting RS3 until this afternoon I hope, so I will see then what the issue is. I imagine though that it's the GC having issues with streaming information off the GOD. From what Julian E. has send in the last couple of months, this game probably has the most aggressive streaming engine the GC at the moment. With all the stuff going one,  I find it hard for GC not have a hiccup once in awhile. It could be a bug, but I doubt it.

It's not a bug.  How should I say this?  There is a TON of stuff happening on-screen, and all of it much more intensive than Rogue Leader.  It has to load everything and that's why there's a pause.  The in-game cutscenes aren't fluent.  They usually cut between different locations and such, so it has to load something new everytime.

If there weren't any "black-out" pauses, the cutscenes would stutter like Resident Evil GC's scene changes.

I don't know about black outs, but I have had it freeze on me already. On the Dantooine level.

Oh c'mon, you don't notice those 1/6 of a second black screens that separate scene/angle changes during the cutscenes?

Of course I did, and they're even longer when you finish a level, but I was referring to something that IS going to be a problem if it continues, rather than just an annoyance.

My copy (EB) doesn't have any of those problems. My copy of Rogue Leader has the same major skip everyone else was referring too, but then again, I'm not that far in Rebel Strike yet.
