More Games with Editors :P
« on: September 27, 2003, 05:22:14 PM »
In the Future i'd love to see more games have more editors. Imagine a Zelda game in which you could build levels and make your own story line and characters. Or just all the whacked out mario levels someone could make. Imagine if the next system had more online capabilities and we could download dungeons made by people from around the world....like the games replay value would like soar.

N should make something similar to ASCII's apps. With the SDcards one could upload models from the PC to the GC. I'd be the first to buy a make-your-own-game app for the GC. Well, not the first at it'll come out in Japan and America first, but you get the idea .

im hoping the next system has a hard drive and sd card support. I want a nice big hard drive so i can have mroe ocmplex game saves and the ability to make big ol levels and characters. Ever since wwf warzone days have i loved the ability to edit things.

Yea I think this is an awesome idea. Didn't they make an RPG-maker for the PS1? If there's online support/SD card support it would make it even better. I really like the sound of a Zelda dungeon maker or a Mario level creator.

Only if the downloadable Zelda content is 'gamer-made'.  I don't want N wasting its time on the current game.  They should be making the next one in the series.

I think this would be really cool if done right.  Nintendo would probably never go for it since they tend to hate giving up control and wouldn't want "inappropriate" Zelda or Mario content out there that they have no control over.  Allowing editing is one thing but allowing other people's interpretation of Zelda to be downloaded from the internet doesn't sound like something they would go for.

The only problem with something like that is that some companies would totally misuse such a feature and we would get some Sims-like games with fifty expansion packs in place of real games.  This design also could encourage shipping out non-finished games with the "promise" of releasing new content later.

Of course nothing can stop those problems from happening and I think having editable content if worth the risk.  Games like Mario Kart and F-Zero for example should definitely have track editors.  I was very disappointed that F-Zero GX didn't have a track editor when the DD add on for F-Zero X did.
