Angelfire Problem......HELP!
« on: September 23, 2003, 03:32:13 AM »
OK, if you look at the 'Windows 98 problems' thread below, I was going to format my computer. But thanks to the guys here, I fixed the problem, and didn't need to format.

Anyhoo, to back up my pictures of Natalie Portman (I have 80 of them), would have been one hellava tedious task to put them on floppys, cause i don't have enough.
So what I did was put them all on my Angelfire Webshell (the place you upload your website stuff when Angelfire is hosting for you).

Problems is, I didn't put them into a web page, you know what i mean? You know how you insert a picture onto the page, then upload both the page and the picture? Well, I uploaded the pics, but they aren't on a page.

So now, I can view them, but I can't save them back onto my hard drive. It looks like you can, but it saves the page itself (without the pic), and not the pic itself.

I don't have any of the originals on my hard drive.

Can anyone help?
I don't wanna have to trawl the net AGAIN to find pics, since it took me three years to get them, and I'm remaking my site. Time isn't a factor, since I'm not rushing my site out onto the net, but I would like an answer to this problem.

If you can view the pics, then I assume you can right-click your pictures and save them that way...Hope that helps

Does Angelfire block FTP?

lol....  man, I almost miss the day when all I had to save when I reformatted my hard drive was 200MB or so of porn...  My hard drive recently died on me, and I had to find a way of backing up 20GB worth of stuff before the drive died completely.  Now THAT was a challenge.  Suffice to say that 80 JPGs doesn't really strike me as a big loss if you lose them.    I ERASED a good 4GB of porn when my drive crashed.

Anyways, it's about time that you learned HTML I think.    Just put each of the pics on a simple web page, and save the images to your hard drive.

Hey Bill, I think right-clikc saving would have been the first thing anyone would have done but like i said, i did that, but instead of saving the pic, it saves the actualy web page, nut no pic.

KDR, whats FTP?

And Grey Ninja, I don't like doing HTML. That's why I use Frontpage, and am learning Dreamweaver . Also, through a stroke of pure genius, I actually did try what you were suggesting last night before I gave up and posted my problem here. I made a web page with links to pics that weren't on my hard drive, in hopes that when i load it onto Angelfire, it will link to the pics on the webshell.
One pic DID work, so i have ONE pic outta Eighty. I tried it for the others, but it didn't work for some reason, so I'll try it again.

Thanks fellas.

here, placing a picture is the easiest thing in the world.  Replace the square brackets with the angular brackets in the code below.

[body]

[/body]

Does it get any easier than that?  I don't even consider HTML a programming language.  It's more like a souped up version of plain text.  (which I suppose it is)

PS:  You don't really "learn" Dreamweaver or Frontpage.  That's like saying that you "learn" MS Word or MS Paint.

Success! All done.

I don't know why, but sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, but I got the pics back.
Hooray!
