1. The PS2 lacks a bit of hardware shader support. The GC can do something like that. If the PS2 stacks up to the Cube, it matches with the XBox as well.

2. Why play DDR on a console? You can get a clone of it for free on PC. Stepmania is an opensource DDR clone.

3. Sony has placed a big PS2 trailer in front of the Braunschweig main station. Apparently the PS2 has like 90% racing games, a few jump&runs, a few RPGs and that annoying Eyetoy. Or at least that's what Sony considers worth playing. My friend went in there hoping for DDR, but there was none... (NOTE: GTA was missing. They are not allowed to display "mature" games in places where kids could see them, GTA is rated 18 here.)

4. More isn't better. If I just wanted MANY games, I'd have stayed with my PC. Absolutely every genre is present there.

Well, I don't know how anyone can say, "The PS2 doesn't have any good games."  I own ~30 PS2 games, all good.  (The bad ones I sold.)  I only have 5 Cube games.  To me, the PS2 is an essential part of my videogame hobby.  It has every genre of gaming (even chess!).  I could not live without it.

.

And yeah, I could play most games on my PC, but I hate my PC.  I hate constantly messing with sound/video cards to make my software work properly.  I prefer the plug-n-play simplicity of Consoles.  So I play DDR on the PS2.
Favorite classic games
Space Invaders, Missile Command, Berzerk, Defender, Mario 1.5, Final Fantasy 6

i dont see why everyone hates on PC's for being dificult, regularly updating drivers/patches etc isn't exactly mind taxing, i can definatly understand the idea behind wanting to sit behind a big ass tv in a comfy lounge though, but i do ALL my gaming from the one... crappy... chair

the PS2 doesn't have nintendo games, and if that is all someone wants a console for then there is no reason to get a ps2 (there is one example of it not having any good games)

Constantly messing with the hardware is soooo 1996. These days we've got DirectX and OpenGL, most games just run without any further work required.

BTW, the PS2 is now a PC as well.

I'd love to have a PS2, but I don't have the cash (and its too expensive anyway - just think, for the ($150? $200? I dunno) price I'd have to pay for a PS2, I could get tons of cheap used GameCube or PC games (ah, nothing like a $5 RPG..).

A few years ago I bought a used Playstation to see what I missed with the N64.  I was actually pretty disappointed with what many consider to be classic PSX games.  I found that many of the games were much more storyline focused and as a result played more like interactive movies.  I myself have always been more of a raw gameplay kind of guy.  I also found that because of the adult audience of the Playstation brand that many of the games had very dark depressing themes.  I use videogames as an escape from the real world so I much prefer it when the themes are a little more lighthearted.  I don't mean super fun happy time like Yoshi's Story but the game should be colourful and the character should be a likeable hero (like Vyse is Skies of Arcadia).  So I find that the Playstation style of gaming just doesn't appeal to me that much.

Cost isn't really an issue (I could easily afford all three consoles) but rather time.  I don't really have enough free time to support more than one console.  There are only so many games one with a full time job can play and when you limit yourself to one console you put an automatic restriction on the amount of titles available to you.

I've also always been a one console kind of guy and I find it's usually the most fun situation.  When you have more than one console I find you tend to focus more on the big games because really that's all you have time for.  However when you have only one console you tend to pay more attention to more minor titles that you wouldn't normally have given a second look.  There are a lot of Cube titles that I've rented that had I owned a PS2 as well I probably wouldn't have tried out and I think that would have been my loss.  I would probably have never played Ikaruga for example if I owned another console.  Getting really familiar with one console's lineup can be a lot more enjoyable then picking out key titles from each console.

I've also found that the PS2 just doesn't have enough games I'm really into to justify a purchase at the current price.  Maybe if they made another pricecut I would but right now there's only like maybe 5 PS2 titles I'm interested in.  And that's covering the overall PS2 lifespan.  I could easily think of 5 Cube titles I want for just the next six months.

Although it's not perfect the Gamecube does do a pretty good job of providing me with the titles I want to play.  I find that the PS2 provides a different type of gaming experience than the Gamecube at isn't an experience I find as interesting or enjoyable.

I don't want more than 3 games on it.  I own a psx, so I don't care about the backwards compatability.
