I have a tech question (take note before reading the ques; I'm using Windows 98). Using Nero 6, I want to burn a VCD (to play in my DVD player; a useful alternative to buying a DVD-R burner), chock full of video game trailers, and my favorite trailers are at gametrailers.com. But my problem is that on gametrailers.com, you can't download the videos to your comp...can you? Please reply - I'm desperate!

erm.... I am not really a fan of QT movies, so I only watch the WMV ones. All that I do is right click on the WMV link, and save target to my hard drive. So says the 30 or so GameTrailers.com movies on my hard drive.

I might also suggest Mozilla Firebird if you are having the problem of not being able to download embedded media. In Firebird, you can right click on any page, and the bottom button in the popup menu will say "View Page Info". Click that, then click on the "media" tab, and you can download any movie, flash animation, picture, or anything else that's on the webpage you are viewing.

Take your pick.

Just editing to say that regardless of which option you pick, you should still upgrade to Mozilla Firebird. There's just no reason to use IE.

i watch whatever format is there...but i have only bothered once to get a *.mov to mpeg or avi converter...but with little luck(to put game trailers on a vcd that could play on my dvd player). So i cant help you.

It's impossible to convert WMV to MPG. The whole purpose of WMV is to prevent people from using it the way they want. Don't even try to convert that, it's a crime under the DMCA!

I am the unofficial Firebird rep on this forum.

EDIT: It just bothers me when people complain about problems that are FIXED in Firebird, such as popups, security failures such as iedll.exe, annoying ads, lost posts in PGC's downtime, etc. etc., and they refuse to use Firebird. It just irks me, and I suggest Firebird a lot because of that.

I doubt anyone gets paid for advertising Firebird. I doubt the devs get paid for developing it. (if you don't get it, look up "GPL")

I've got a semirelated question for anyone who can help (hope you don't mind the intrusion, kirby

): I have a serious prioblem running QuickTime on my computer. It downloads and installs just fine, but when I actually want to use it, it never works. It won't run any movies at all, even though, according to Apple's help pages, it's working just fine. Sometimes to watch a movie I'll have to uninstall and reinstall several times, but even that doesn't work anymore. Any idea what the problem is?

Quicktime sucks? Not as bad as RealPlayer, but it still sucks. Even at the best of times, I find that it only half works. It's prone to crashing, it freezes your browser, and it's just an all round annoyance. I have seriously had that same problem as you before Mouse Clicker, and I don't remember if I ever solved it. I think I eventually just reformatted.

I perfer to use WMV, but sometimes some movies I want to watch only run in QuickTime, and it's really pissing me off. If you remember whether or not you fixed it, feel free to drop me a line.

KDR, DMCA is US, and US-only, and yes it is possible to convert WMV to MPEG...

Quicktime works fine for me. Since I'm not allowed to download anything, I have to use it.

And for that same reason, is why I don't useFirebird. If we network the house, I'm going to try out Firebird and try out Linux, though I think I'll just stick with Windows for OS.

ghost, I have not tried Opera in a very long time, and it's possible that it's improved since then. I will give it a try one of these nights. But if it's anything like the version I tried out long ago, then I will stick with Firebird.

I'm running the latest version of Opera (I think), and it's very good. It sounds like Firebird may have some features Opera doesn't, although I've barely explored what Opera can do. Still, I'm not too keen on switching browsers right now since I have a HUGE list of bookmarks I don't want to have to replace.

Mozilla browsers should be able to share their bookmarks across the different browsers. Firebird automatically imports your IE bookmarks when you start it up for the first time. I know that it's possible to import your Mozilla bookmarks. I am sure it would be trivial to import your Opera bookmarks as well.

ok, i think this guy was asking how to actually download the quicktime movies with ie...so i'll tell him...
What you ant to do is open up your temporary internet files...in win 98 i think its in the windows directory. Then, click on a quicktime movie and watch it in your browser...it will then appear in your temporary internet files...(you may need to refresh the list) you can then just drag it to where you want to actually save it. I know for a fact this works with gametrailers.com because I have done it. As for not liking quicktime...i like it the most of all the codecs....it seems to do a really good job of preserving a cinema like feel to videos.

You have to enable caching to hard drive in your quick time options to do that.

Try Quick Time Alternative

With Real Alternative, and Quicktime Alternative, I have no further use for either of those HORRIBLE programs. The day I found them was one of my greatest internet discoveries. I remembered this thread just now, and thought I would share.

When in windows on my parents pc I enjoy MyIE2, just a HEAVILY modified version of IE.

When in slack on my pc, it's Mozilla Firebird all the way. The brower is light, fast, stable and nice to use.
