Super Smash Bros. Melee - Excellent game, great for multiplayer. Not as fun solo. If you have at least one other person to play with get it. I saw it for $20 at best buy ($30-$10 off all players choice games) so you cant go wrong there.

Metroid Prime - Incredible game. My favorite on the GCN. Wonderful graphics, wonderful game play, and excellent re-playability. I played through it on normal and hard mode and it is very fun and challenging. You can get this one free with the GCN, or look for them on eBay new at $25.

Resident Evil
Resident Evil Zero - I havnt played these, so Im not sure. I wouldnt recommend getting both unless you have already played them and like them.

Super Mario Sunshine - This game was fun, and I definately recommend picking one up. Not much re-playability since you play each area like 8 times you get you fill the first time through imo. Nothing really new or revolutionary in this one from Super MArio 64.

Animal Crossing (your wife would like) - I tried this game for a while and couldnt get into it. If you like Sims then you might like it.

StarFox Adventures - I didnt really enjoy this game, its ok, but there is no challenge. Its also not really a Star Fox game, they just added those characters as an afterthought

WWE Wrestlmania X8 - If you like wrestling games... I wouldnt expect too much.

The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker - Number 2 on my top games list for GCN. Wonderful game, the graphics fit perfectly. Good replayability. I played through it twice already. A must have for any GCN owner. Keep you eye out for the Ocarina of Time / Master quest disk. I saw them at Wal-Mart for free with the Wind Waker purchase, so you might get lucky.

Eternal Darkness

Ikaruga - This one looks fun, but it is still $40 for a 2d shooter. There are better uses for my money.

Luigis Mansion - Too short. Dont buy it, just give it a rent and play through it.

Skies of Arcadia Legends - I have heard good things, but this game is hard to find and is still $50 for a 2+ year old Dream Cast port. If you like RPGs go for it, but there are new RPGs on the horizon for GCN.

Other Games

Pikmin - Very fun game, very different. $20 at Best Buy with the $10 off players choice deal. It was short, but does have some re-playability.

Mario Party 4 - Fun game for multi player. Mario Party 5 is coming out soon so you might want to hold off.

And of course there are these games coming out by the end of the year.

Mario Kart Double Dash
F-Zero GX
Soul Calibur II
Pikmin II
Mario Party 5
Pokemon Colliseum

I also recommend getting the G3 Wireless controller made by Pelican. Wavebird is ok, but no rumble.

Ralph: Hi, Principal Skinner! Hi, Super Nintendo Chalmers!

Super Smash Bros. Melee/ Excellent choise, should be in every Cube owners game collection

Metroid Prime/Also must buy

Resident Evil/If you like survival horror, must buy, but you should buy other one first(or rent) To make sure you like it.

Resident Evil Zero/look previous

Super Mario Sunshine/I like it, but some people dont seem to like the water gun feature, Its one of them Love or hate games, if its possible, give it a rent first.

Animal Crossing (your wife would like)/I like it, ten times funner than Sims, nuff said

StarFox Adventures/ Excellent graphics, but some people were little disappointed(Id give it 8/10)

WWE Wrestlmania X8/I dont think you should buy it, because WWE Wrestlemania XIX is coming in this month(or next, cant remember, probably next) Which seems much better.

The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker/Must buy, my Favorite on GC.

Eternal Darkness/Also must buy, one of the most underrated games ever, and one of the best this generation has to offer.

Ikaruga/Havent played, but heard good things about it.

Luigis Mansion/Not too long game, you can go through it in a rent, fun though.

Skies of Arcadia Legends/If you like RPGs, you should get it.

I also recommend Pikmin, Star Wars: Rogue Leader(Notice, seguel to both these games are coming this year, and both seem to be better than theyre first parts. Also Mario Golf(out now in US) And MArio Kart seem like must buys. And MGS: Twin Snakes, Pokemon Colosseum(If you are into pokemon) is coming this year, and you should not forget F-Zero and Viewtiful Joe.

Yep yep, holiday games are sure looking good for the ´Cube.

You have a good list but I would like to add to it.
Splinter Cell-great game
Wario World-short, but one of the best games I've played
The Sims-I really like the Sims, and they are coming out w/a sequel in a few months.
What about Madden or NCAA football?  I'm not into sports, but I've heard these are really good.
Time Splitters 2
Pikmin (and the upcoming Pikmin 2)-Best GC game ever

All the games listed so far are very good, so far as I know.  Upcoming games I suggest are F-Zero GX, Kirby's Air Ride (if you do not fear your friends making fun of you, or, if like me, you have friends that'd play it with you), Mario Kart: Double Dash, P.N. 03, and Killer 7.  Those are the ones on my list, and I believe they're all supposed to be out this year.  There are also some great games coming out next year, like sequels to Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, and what could be another good Star Fox game.

In addition to Super Mario Sunshine, it doesn't have much replay value, but it's fun as heck to just play around.  I sometimes spend hours just hopping around Delfino Plaza (main area), running around on the rooftops (me like rooftops).

Stay away from Wrestlemania X8!! I thought it was terrible. Wait until XIX comes out, it looks to be a lot better.  All of these games mentioned so far are excellent, my current favorites are Burnout 2, Animal Crossing, Zelda, and Metroid Prime. I'm gonna be broke at the end of this month due to Soul Calibur 2 and F-Zero, both of which are gonna be must-haves. Also, try reading PGC's reviews. They're quite accurate on a game's pro's and con's  (at least to my own tastes).

Hostile Creation, I do that too! with mario sunshine.....

Anyways, that's a very good list. I have most of those games, so I would recommend most. I don't have Wrestlemania though so I can't help you with that. The rest of the list is great though.

Super Smash Bros. Melee -- Excellent choice.  I got this the day it came out and my friends and I still play it fairly often.

Metroid Prime -- #1 Game on Gamecube

Resident Evil -- Scary as Hell!  If you like hard games that scare the crap out of you at the same time, go for it.

Resident Evil Zero  -- Uhm....this one was a little ho-hum and kind of "going through the motions" for me.  Stick to RE

Super Mario Sunshine -- I like it.  It's not revolutionary, but if you are looking for more Mario 64, this game is great.

Animal Crossing (your wife would like) -- I was freaking addicted to this game for like 3 months.  Now...I just play it when I remember it and get hooked for a couple days at a time.  This game is pointless, but strangely fun.  If you like to collect things, this is the game for you.

StarFox Adventures -- I thought this game was pretty good!  People bash it, because it has almost nothing to do w/ Star Fox.  Well, I thought the Star Fox characters fit in well for the most part.  The adventure is largely generic however, but the eye candy is something to be seen.  You could beat it w/ some effort in a 5-day rental.

WWE Wrestlmania X8 -- I don't do wrestling.

The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker -- #2 Game on Gamecube.  Sailing can get a little old after a while, so can playing the Command Song over and over to take control of other characters.

Eternal Darkness -- #3 game on gamecube.  Get it.  Buy 2 copies of it.  Buy it for your best friend too.

Ikaruga -- Haven't played, but looks fun.  I am a little put off by it only having 5 levels though...

Luigis Mansion -- Um, give it a rent.  it was worth the purchase when it was only one of two games available for Gamecube, but not anymore.  It's very short.

Skies of Arcadia Legends -- Haven't played it but heard mostly good things.

-----------------------------------------

Games you are missing:

Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader -- If you like Star Wars and arcade action, you will like this game.

Timesplitters 2 -- "Heir to Goldeneye" isn't quite accurate.  There's some wonky things in this game  and it's style is rather cartoony.  It won't win over your Halo friends but if you're looking for some respectable FPS action on Gamecube, this is your only hope.

Yeah, Sunshine is one of the best games ever for just messing around.  One thing I like to do is get a piece of fruit, get on the roof of some building near the palm trees, and try to hop across the tops of all the palm trees without falling.  It's quite a challenge, since you can't use FLUDD, can't grab the trunks, and the controls are a bit awkward.  I also like to make up side plots and play them out (as I do in many games), but some of those are kind of embarassing
