I do this same thing to my kids.  They can have water, milk or limited juice.  My 8 year old has soda on occasion but the two year old is just way too young.  The 8 year old hasn't had a cavity yet.

I've never had a cavity.
Ever.
I go to the dentist twice a year to get them cleaned.
That new dentist was hot! Fresh outta uni! My dentist lets her use the next room, so that when the waiting room gets full, some go to her, and i was one of the fortunate ones!

CAFFEINE GET!!

Just thought you guys would like to know. I'm not a coffee person (tried it, can't get hooked) and the sugar helps as much, probably more.

Piac and mouseclicker, you guys are going to be in for a surprise when you hit your late 20's if you keep drinking that much soda.  One of my best friends through high school was a guy who was very tall and skinny.  He easily drank soda more than any other fluids and in his late 20's got fat.  Not to mention his teeth started looking bad too.  The sugar can be very addicting so you might want to start getting a grip on it now.  Rick had mentioned problems with weight because of soda, and if you keep drinking it alot that will likely be your future.  They are finding more and more health risks with even diet soda.  Nutrasweet is sooo bad for you. Water is your friend!    Also, since you mentioned juice Piac, most juices have corn syrup in them.  It really makes me mad that they can say 100% juice but they mean partly from concentrate which has corn syrup.  Try to get juice that is fresh and only made from fruit and some water.  Okay, there is my mom lecture for the day.

I really WANT to get off soda, but I can't.  Good thing I'm nowhere near the age of most of you.

Yes, water is your friend.  I drink a couple of large glasses of water before I go to bed each night, with lots of crushed ice in both.  The bad thing is that I have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

Orange juice is great, and even better with crushed ice in it because after, the ice that's left has the orange juice flavor in it.  Yum.

As for diet soda's, I hate diet Pepsi, and used to like diet coke.  But diet Sprite is disgusting, although I don't like Spite that much to begin with.

I have to try putting regular vanilla in regular coke to see what it's like.

Cavity-wise, I've had many, but that's not entirely my fault.  I have hypo-plastic teeth or something, which means alot of my molars have less enamel on them than regualr teeth, so i'm more prone to cavities.  Not only that, but I think three or four of my teeth actually came in with cavities on them.  My mom also had this so it's all her fault.  Mean old witch....

Enamel hyperplasia, aka soft teeth. i have the same condition, although not a severe as some. i have more trouble with yellow teeth since i've been drinking tea and coffee since i was five or six. It's worsened because of the soft teeth condition. It's not utterly horrid, but as soon as i can i'll have them professionally whitened, so i can color them more by drinking more coffee.

I never drank too much soda during my childhood.  I really like milk, and I tend to get water at restaurants.  When my friends and I have a party, though, I generally drink all the soda I want.

I've had one, very small cavity, way back when.  My teeth are generally very white, too.

Ms.Pikmin: It's not going to be a surprise at all. Like I said, I'm taking advantage of my metabolism while it's still high.

Also, it's not the sugar in sodas that's addicting, it's the caffiene. Caffiene is basically a MUCH less dangerous form of cocaine and heroin, in the sense that the work the exact same way and are all addictive. Caffiene, if consumed in massive amounts, can lead to heart disease, I believe. However, a typical 12 ounce can of soda generally has much less caffiene than a cup of coffee or especially tea. Caffiene can also help ward of Parkinson's Disease.

Anyway, something interesting most of you probably don't know- milk is actually bad for you after you've finished growing. The way the animal kingdom works, milk is given to adolescents who need the extra calcium to grow bones. However, once your bones have finished growing, the ingredients in milks that actually take away from bone mass start taking affect. That's why every animal on earth except for humans become lactose intolerant after they're through growing. Humans originally became lactose intolerant when they became older, but one group of humans had a genetic defect that allowed them to ingest milk their entire lives, and they're who most of us alive today are descendants of. Native Americans are lactose intolerant because they never inherited the defective gene that stopped tehm from becoming lactose intolerant.

Obviously, though, drinking milk after you're done growing can't be that bad for you considering many people have been drinking milk until the day they die and have lived long, healthy lives.

Hahahaha.....haha......ha..........

*drinks milk*

If it's any consolation for you guys, my 4 year old cousin already has gold fillings in her teeh cause she drank too much soft drinks and too many lollies. Likewise, back in 1996 when i went to the States to visit my mum's side of the family, my then two year old cousin's teeth were all black. If you could look hard enough, there would be little bits of white trying to  be seen. They had stacks of cartons of soda in the kitchen.

And I hardly drink full cream milk anymore. Mum thinks its bad for ya, so she buys 'Farmer's Best', which isn't quite Full Cream. It has the taste, but like half the fat.

That's my 8 cents.

Coca-Cola got its name from the Coca extract that they put in it.  At the time, Coca plants weren't known to be harmful, and they were using it as a pep-up, much like caffeine or sugar.  In small quantities, Coca plants can be very therapeutic, but in refined form, it's a highly addictive drug.

I just had Pepsi Vanilla for the first time.

What are you guys talking about!?  I like it!  It has more vanilla in it than the coke version (at least it tastes it).  It's not quite as good as Vinella Coke IMO, but close.

Sprite remix is horrid and Termin8's story was disgusting.

I drink 2% milk.  personally, whole milk is disgusting.  skim milk...I've never had it....but the name is a total turn off.

"skim" sounds like "skin"  so when I was little I always picture skin on top of a glass of milk, almost like when you leave, like ,a bowl of soup out.  the fat floats up and forms a skin over the liquid.  eww.

When I was a in my teens I prefered Coke to Pepsi. Now that I am an adult, I prefer the taste of Pepsi.

I tried Pepsi Vanilla a week or two ago, and it was very disappointing. Vanilla Coke is much better.

I happen to love Pespi Twist. Coke currently has a Diet Coke with Lemon, which is horrible (it tastes kind of like how pencil shavings smell, if that makes any sense).

I don't know - I think Pepsi would win the "Cola Wars" if they were fighting strictly over regular cola. Coca-Cola would win overall for having the best tasting product line-up.

In terms of sales, though, Coca Cola is WAAAAY out in the lead, regardless of side products. Coke sales were slipping in the 80's and Coke introduced a new formula for their beverage (New Coke). People everywhere become outraged that Coca Cola would have the nerve of changing the age old formula to something is basically synonomous to American culture. Some even went as far as to say they wouldn't even be as mad if someone burned a flag in their yard. Psychologists listened to people calling in complaining about the new formula, and many of them discovered the callers ahd sounded like they had lost a dear family member. Coca Cola switched back to the original formula and sales skyrocketted. Ever since, Coke has been ahead of Pepsi.

And no, Coca Cola didn't invent New Coke and then switch back to the original just to boost sales- it was an honest marketing blunder that ended up restoring interest in Coca Cola.

Mouse_clicker, no offense, but I think you know way too much about soft drinks

I prefer Coke to Pepsi, but I'd really take other beverages over cola, like Sprite, orange drinks, Dr. Pepper, and root beer.  And cream soda, of course.
