Underground Band Discussion
« on: August 13, 2003, 06:42:19 AM »
This is a discussion about all of the underground bands that no one knows about and if you guys have any new bands that you suggest or have recently discovered, post it here.

One new band i've heard of is called the Fear Nuttin' Band. This band is unique because they mix reggae with rock. If you guys are interested in the band goto this link: Fear Nuttin Band Homepage

So if any of you have a new band that everyone should hear, post it (I'm looking for new stuff, are you?)

Easily my favorite band of all-time is an unkown band from southern Alabama called Pain. Most people have never heard of them but quite a few have heard their music- they did the Jabberjaw music video on Cartoon Network that aired a while back. There's really no real way to describe them- they're part weird, part ska, part punk. If you've ever heard They Might Be Giants (another relatively great unkown band), they're very similar to them. I urge anyone who has even a remote interested in ska or punk check out Pain- if you do, search by album (Goggins, Midgets With Guns, Wonderful Beef, Full Speed Ahead, and Jabberjaw), otherwise you'll find songs by another band called Pain that's VERY different.

I really like They Might Be Giants.  We got their Flood album back in '93 I think it was and still listen to it often.  Miscellaneous t and Mink Car are also great albums.

Any of you guys check out the band's website I posted before...that's some sweet stuff. Anyways, the best way to hear new bands is to goto those Rock Fests with all these unknown bands (I went to the Radio 104 Fest last July) and its the best way to expand your options..Any of you guys heard of Three Days Grace and Smile Empty Soul? Their music is getting more popular now...but I knew about them waay before anyone else did.

POSSUMS! What is with everybody having Teen Girl Squad avatars?

Anyway, if you like They Might Be Giants (who do the theme song for The Daily Show, actually), I think you'd love Pain. They've got that some crazy quality where you wonder what they were thinking when they wrote the song. Except with instrumentals (trumpet, trombone, and sax) on top of the keyboard. My personaly favorite songs are Jabberjaw and Full Speed Ahead.

Aha!  They Might Be Giants is a great band, possibly my favorite, in some respects.  I have a ton of songs burned onto CD, and a two CD collection (which doesn't work on my stereo, so I haven't listened to it much).  "Dr. Worm" is one of my "group's" theme songs.  As well as "Birdhouse in your Soul".

Other underdog bands?  Ever heard of the Misfits?  I'm not sure how popular they are, but they're pretty good if you're into people singing about cheap movie monsters Nah, I like em.

Radiohead and Weezer are also among some of my less known choices, though I'm not sure how popular either of them are.  I've seen a fair deal of media on Weezer, though.

Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!
