So you DON'T have to pay Tom Nook...

The Animal Crossing smartphone game will take you to a camp in your pocket.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will release in "late November" in all territories, and will feature a created avatar attempting to build their dream campsite. The title will be free to start, with purchasable Leaf Tickets serving to speed up construction of larger projects or instant access to smaller ones.

The game will also contain special seasonal items and the ability to visit the campsite of friends for rewards. Preregistration is now open on Google Play or on the game's website using a Nintendo account.

UPDATE: Pocket Camp is now live in the Australian and New Zealand iOS and Android app stores.

Tom Nook will get your money somehow...

I like that they put you in a campground for a change of pace. I would like to see more risks taken with Animal Crossing. Let's have an Animal Crossing in an apartment complex like the one in Rear Window.

Tom Nook will come and push you out of your window like Raymond Burr does to Jimmy Stewart if you don't pay your rent on time.
Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

Despite loving Fire Emblem, this is strangely more appealing to me than Fire Emblem Heroes. Maybe since I've only enjoyed Animal Crossing on a superficial level, and not gotten super deep into the core entries like I have with Fire Emblem, the concessions they've had to make for this to be a mobile game don't bother me as much. Although it does also seem like this is closer to core Animal Crossing, in general, than Fire Emblem Heroes was to the console Fire Emblem games.

Also, it doesn't seem like Nintendo is being as heavy-handed with how they monetize this game as a lot of people were expecting from an Animal Crossing mobile game. I'm sure a certain amount of that is because they intentionally chose to shy away from highlighting those elements too much in the reveal, but it sounds like this will be a pretty good experience even if you don't want to spend any money on it (much like Fire Emblem Heroes, at least from what I hear). I'm looking forward to playing this next month.
