problems with framerate
« on: August 04, 2003, 03:50:39 AM »
my framerate seems to drop when the graphics get intense, when there are a lot water and light effects, especially at the bosses in metroid prime(some of the bigger ones) and when using the big morph ball bomb. also the bosses in mario sunshine(the final boss, the manta ray shadow - when they became many). i also experienced it at a lesser degree in zelda. two times metroid crached("an error has occured") although i don't know if its related. the problem seems to be more common in 60hz mode.

if any one has information or experience of this please reply.

well i can tell you that it is not the gamecube's problem if that is what you were worried about- you gc is probably fine
i dont ever remembering having too much slowdown in metroid- it was usually fluid for me the whole time
but i did hear of the crashing problem of metroid- it happened to me once on the elevator to the chozo ruins but never happened again
mario sunshine did have slowdown at that boss mostly because of the many things on screen at once
but it is usually the game that could have bugs in it to cause it to run poorly and not the gamecube
i call the big one bitey.

I didnt have any slow down that I can remember on Metroid Prime. Zelda only slowed down when there were tons of enemies that I was bashing. Like in that one level where you drop into a hole and there is nothing there, light two torches and all of a sudden there are like 50 Keese (bats) attacking you.

If the game slows down with a lot going on I wouldnt worry too much. If it starts doing it when there is practically nothing happening then you might have a hardware problem.

Welcome to my world, with "an error has occured" or "the Gamecube disc canot be read" every five seconds, except for the frane rate thing, I got to get it fixed before my bro gets Soul Calibur 2. SuperLink666 knows a thing or two

i had a period of overly critical observing of tv-geometry, dvd-quality and things like that a year a go. using the "return within 30 days" rule i changed tv 6 times( and it was those big 32" widescreen tvs) so i'm easily disturbed when video is involved. but isn't it strange that they do games that requires more than the console can give?

I can't really remember experiencing slowdown like what you described.  My GCN has definatly gone through the paces too.  In SMS, the only slowdown I had was on the beach level when you have to get the little enemies off of the mirrors, and not that much there even.  I tend to have very good luck with games, I have a launch M: P and it hasn't crashed once.  My Cube is also launch and hasn't frozen.

Edit:I hate that smily deal.

i playes metroid some more, and in the battle with the meta ridley, the framerate drops when the camera zooms out and shows samus on the plateu and several "glitches" when showing the dragon in the intro, i can't help getting the feeling that there is someting wrong, but maybe it's just that it won't get perfect with a machine for $150, although i don't see a lot of persons complaining about low framerate.

I get a LOT of slowdown in Rogue Leader. So much so, that I really don't think it's normal. During the training level, it can drop really, really low. I could count the frames if I felt like it. Almost as bad as Perfect Dark in multi-player

Faulty disc maybe, but I don't care. It's not as if I like the game anyway.

The only slowdown I have encountered in Metroid Prime occurs during the weapon-change animation during a large fire-fight. The weapon will lag and then change a bit more slowly than normal. In Super Mario Sunshine, there is some slowdown during the Manta boss and there is massive slowdown on the final boss. But slowdown has almost nothing to do with your hardware because it is a flaw within the game code.

I have only seen the slowdown in the training level once. Rogue Leader was developed so quickly that it's not surprising it has slowdown here and there.
