Sega Saturn score!
« on: July 31, 2003, 04:54:11 AM »
I just purchased a Sega Saturn w/ Panzer Dragoon and Virtua Fighter 2 for $60.

I have a very simple question: What is the best (most affordable) way to obtain Panzer Dragoon Saga and Nights w/ 3D controller?
Is E-bay my only hope?

Congrats on grabbing a Saturn. It's one of the coolest consoles I've ever owned next to the Cube.

Nights shouldn't be hard to find. I just got a copy a couple weeks ago from Swap USA for 10 dollars and the clerk even offered to throw in the 3d controller, which I already have so I declined.

As for PDS, E-bay is probably your only hope. Unfortunately, the prices are through the roof on this game, coming close to 200 dollars on some auctions. These are usually mint condition copies with all the goodies, but I doubt you'll have much luck on an opened copy because of it's rarity.

Other rare Saturn games that may present a challenge in obtaining are Burning Rangers, Shining Force 3's first scenario and Guardian Heroes (God, I wish I got this game when I had the chance. It's the coolest sidescroller I ever played).

Outside of those Saturn games and a couple of others, Saturn games generally are not too hard to find locally. Just check the used games shops in your area that specialize or carry lots of stuff for dead consoles.

Try videogamedepot.com, last time I checked they had Nights with the controller and i think it was new, and wasn't an import, but a domestic version.

Don't forget to look out for Radiant Silvergun.  Of course it's like the most expensive Saturn game out there but it's something to be aware of at least.  The general rule of the Saturn is if it's a good game it's either super rare or was never released outside of Japan.

Try hunting down a copy of Guardian Heroes, too. I was EXTREMELY lucky to find a mint condition copy of it yesterday at my favortite pawn shop. My favorite porn shop wouldn't have it, that's for sure.

It's another great game by Treasure. Rather short, though. But it has alot of levels that can only be seen if you choose the right options when talking to people. Sometimes the battles are insane. 10 or so massive robots VS .. You.

I'm also in the hunt for a copy of PD: Saga (PAL version, which is even harder to find than the NTSC version), a 3D pad (or even a second digital pad), Story of Thor 2 and Sonic Jam.

I'll be checking that pawn shop again tomorrow. They recently got a massive amount of Saturn games in. Seems like someone sold off their precious well kept collection for a pissy amount of money...

Good luck finding Nights.  It's one heck of a good game.

Here's to hopefully having a Nights game in the near future.

I have a feeling Sonic Team doesn't really want to make a sequel to NiGHTS. They announced one for Dreamcast before launch and dropped the project a few months later..

I guess the closest we'll get is the NiGHTS cameo in Sonic Adventure DX

I have that Night's Christmas disk, but since I don't have a Saturn or anything it's a dust collector.

I find it funny that they wont even port Nights to a console. They can put every Sonic game on the GCN, but not Nights?

NiGHTS would require alot more effort to port over.
Unless they ported it to something like the PSOne. Now there's an idea that Sega never put into action. Ages ago, they announced they were going to port a number of Saturn games to PSOne and sell them really cheap.

What the hell happened there? ;__;

MEGA BUMP!

I have the opportunity to get a Saturn + 2 controllers for $25. It is at a Goodwill, so it could get bought by the time I make a decision. Anyway, is this worth it?
Thanks for listening.

If you are looking for Old saturn game, beleive it or not you can order directly from Sega, goto www.sega-parts.com and order any game they have on the list BRAND NEW from the factory. These games are all sitting in a warehouse and havent sold out yet. Its segas best kept secret. Prices are *way* high for old gamew but they are BRAND NEW so its kinda worht it sometimes. Limited selection but a nice place to chekc out old sega games and accessories.

Thanks for the advice. My mom was able to pick up the system after work about 20 hours since I left the store yesterday. It will be the first Sega system that I owned. I plan to get a Genesis and Dreamcast eventually, but this just happened to be the first system that came my way.

For the record, I also scored a $4 NES Advantage there last night.
Thanks for listening.

now mister marioallstar let me warn you , as  a person who collects video games, I speak from experience.  BE HAPPY with what games you *DO* find. Saturn was a commercial FLOP and its *BEST* games are hard as hell to find. I had some of the more poplular stuff but after a while I gave up altogether and eventually sold the damn thing. Well plus my battery died and I got fed up with hunting for stores that sold saturn games and ebay SUCKS for buying Saturn games. So be warned, you will likely *never* find the gems for a reasonalle price.

I accept your challenge.

Unfortunately, it did not come with a video cable. Fortunately, they are cheap on eBay. It came with 3 controllers: 2 of the original style, 1 with the analog stick. No game was included, but it does have a GameShark. There is also one controller extension cable. The system itself is the first model (apparently there were two designs with slightly different looks). So eventually I will at least pick up a video cable and NiGHTS Into Dreams.
Thanks for listening.
