Check the technical forum, I am pretty sure this has already been discussed in there.

Get the component cable it kicks ass.  Even if you are not using it with a progressive scan TV.

I was interested in getting one since the tv in my room supports component (only one we own that supports it out of....umm the 7 tvs we own)
so i went out to buy it, but Nintendo never released their first party component cable to stores (it's only available directly through Nintendo)
and the monster cables, component cable for GC costs $50 bucks! RIPOFF!

anyone have the Nintendo first party comp. cable? post impressions please, and price, thanks!

I think Component is too expensive right now and it doesnt improve the quality that much. I use component for my DVD which gives crisp beutiful picture, and I use S-Video for my GCN, XBox, and Satalite and they also give beautiful crisp picture. I dont think that there is enough of a difference to make it worth worth the cost, just stick with S-Video.

Also I needed a switcher box since I only have 1 S-Video input. I got a 5 input switcher from Best Buy for $20. The switchers for Component are like $100.

if you're concerned about image quality why don't you just unplug and replug each S-Video from the one input?  it would just require unplugging one, and plugging in the other when you change systems, just leave them plugged into the systems and the output part of the cables dangling free behind the tv by the S-Video input on the tv.  it would give you better quality than putting them through a switcher, and save you 20+ bucks.

SWEET the Nintendo first party component cable is only $29.95!!!

OOPS... Let's try this again.

I have had the Component cables for close to a year now (hooked up to my Samsung 47" widescreen TV) and let me just say that the image quality is quite amazing.  If your TV has component inputs (RGB), it's quite likely that it'll run in progressive scan.  Anyways, back to the picture of the games...  it really looks good on the games that support it.  If you don't mind the games looking a little rougher around the edges (more pixelated edges--less of an anti-aliased look), then please, spend the thirty bucks and Nintendo's online store; you'll be forever glad you did.  Personally I think games like Mario (lower framerate, some low-res textures) don't look so hot, but everything since looks nice.  Games like Super Monkey Ball2, Eternal Darkness, Metroid (especially), Nascar Thunder 2003 (brighter colors), Wave Race: Blue Storm, really benefit from component cables.  I guess what it comes down to is the developers supporting the video display in the first place...  I know F-Zero is gonna blow me away at true 60fps (which can only be witnessed with component cables) and many third parties now support this feature.  All we need now is someone (PlanetGAMECUBE?, IGN?, GCA?) to make a nice database of what games support progressive scan (and DPLII, while you're at it) ;-), then we'll be all set.  Hope that helps a little.

it would really be nice if someone made a progressive scan database,
much like the IGN one game requirement GBA multiplayer ability database.
good idea man!  even if someone just made a progressive scan FAQ, that would be cool too.

I too have enjoyed the quality of picture provided by my component cables.  I don't even own a progressive scan TV, sniff.  I have not had a chance to compare an Svid cable with a component cable but I bet the difference is negligable.  Having said that, component cables rock!  Get them if you have the input for them, you will not be disapointed.  And after you get them, have fun switching from RCA to CC inputs the difference is night and day, seriously.

I got mine from Lik Sang, waste of money.  Eventhough they came in a cool japanese box.  Just get them from Nintendo directly if you can.  29.95USD I think.

I really want progressive scan on my games, but HDTVs are expensive.
And since the GCN only supports 480p and not 720p ill wait for the next GCN to buy myself a HDTV set.
